The game has a new patch, Dynamic infestation gets teased in new loading screens for each map.
It looks pretty weird, I almost prefer the old flat infestation.

So we rushed...

Yes, that's a win in 40 seconds
The new infestation is a bit too bumpy for me, I'd prefer a bit more uneven 3D infestation with the occasional bump here and there spread out. Though I must say the new one creates a larger gap between marine and alien areas which I guess is what this game needs for the atmosphere.
I mean, what happened to this:

I remember many builds back when they first included infestation, it looked hideous, but they improved it and eventually it looked great for a 2D surface. Give them time and they might tweak it a bit according to players' opinions.
The new one looks good. Looks really repulsing. The old one just looked like puke on the ground.
does anyone know if there will be a preload?
No, UWE said during the Gamespot live stream that preload takes days to setup with Valve, which is time that they don't have to spare.

that looks incredible, the infestation before looked nowhere near as convincing as this
That new infestation looks like green tapioca pudding. Heh heh.

EDIT: This must have been the thing that Max was working on for the infestation. And taking a closer examination at the progressing screenshots, I believe this is still just a temporary thing. Looks more like they are just many green spheres covering the map instead of the 3D displacement mesh that was intended to go in. I think they are still trying to take it there though.

It just looks weird, the first thing that comes into my mind is one of those inflatable bouncy castles.
I don't like it, just looks a bunch of balls of various sizes... doesn't look that great imo
looks like it'd create a much more claustrophobic feel for the marines
I like it, just don't make it look to "thick"
I'm going to wait until I see it in-game before I judge it.
It does look a bit weird, but it might not be so bad in action.
I like how it looks.
It looks organic, not like before, a vomit over floor, walls and ceiling with sporadic rotten potatoes.
I think it'd be cool if they combined the two.
the flat sort of look with a small more separated bumpy surface
It would be neat if the marines would trample the bloby infestation on the floor tho and interact with it generally, like having pustules of goo etc on it

reminds me of

Hah, there's an Australian server with a max of 100 players, we're currently at 38 players and it runs pretty damn well.
For those of you who don't know, this game had issues with just 6 people back in the day. It's improved so much.
Definitely not balanced for 40 players however. :v:
Since a few revisions ago my PC hangs after closing the game if I play for a few hours. It's weird, and apparently i'm not the only one.
Still have to wait for halloween...
Worth the 35 bucks??

Definitely.
It's a VERY polished game with modding on release so it can only get better.
Nice. Seems they gave emphasis on the modding. Thanks.
For the modding I'm hoping for AI, so I can practice on my own without being slaughtered every match at launch. Maybe even a short Singleplayer campaign.
can't join games anymore, the game just stays stuck on intializing..
Man I can't wait til this comes out
Gonna wake myself up when it comes out to start the download and then I'll go back to bed so when I wake up it'll hopefully be done
Plus ontop of that I get out of School Early (2:15 at my High School)
So hopefully Release Day is gonna be a good day for me
While I agree the infestation looks a bit bumpy, I think it looks pretty cool. I mean it literally does make the area look like a new place.
What they could do is make the "balls" a little flatter to keep the rounded look but make it look less puffy.
Although I haven't seen it in game either, so it might look great in action - and even if it doesn't, they tweak the shit out of everything, so the infestation would certainly look better after a couple of builds.
As good as the old method looked compared to when it was originally implemented, it still always looked really bad and out of place. It looked like a texture overlay on an area, and the texture was so lowres (since it spread out and increased size) that it was just blurry up close and made everything look like the guy who was in charge of painting the installation got pissed and just said fuck it, and brought a can of puke green paint and tossed it all over the walls.
This one may be rough based on the screens and even look bad in some places, but it's leagues better then the previous method which looked more like a texture error then an actual effect.
EDIT:
Plus imagine how cool that would actually look if all those things pulsed in an out. It would make the area feel alive
the infestion could grow over some lights etc making that area a lot darker too
You can remove infestation right? (IE burn it away)
Yes, burning any part of the infestation makes it spread to the cysts too (because having to burn EVERY individual piece of infestation would be redundant and boring from a gameplay perspective probably)
I think they said they wanted to implement something like that with the lights. What I'd like to see, is have infestation that grows over areas that haven't had their power nodes constructed, slowly dim to the point where it is just barely visible without a flashlight and slowly pulse - the aliens can't knock out the power until a node is constructed, so this would serve as extra direct visual contrast for map control, and give an advantage to aliens fighting on their own territory - alien sections controlled without a node would be immediately clear even without the infestation in-view because of the dim light, and it would also give a kind of feeling of "something's not right" for the marines
Still though, can't wait for this. It would literally be like a whole new map.

It's 25 bucks
Doesn't the current infestation move a bit? I seem to remember it isn't entirely flat.
