Anyone else feel like NS2 is terribly unoptimized? I can barely run it on medium at 34 FPS.
I get about 45 FPS with high settings, but ambient occlusion turned off. It's not perfect, but it has improved drastically since the days of, like, 5 FPS on all low settings during the alpha and beta. I have noticed a bunch of graphical weirdness, though. Like the "dynamic infestation" tends to stream in and out, so I could be standing in an area and have the infestation flash on and off. Which looks extremely bizarre.
Sorry if this has already been answered but how long does first run shader caching and pre-caching take? Just installed the game a few hours ago and it has only finished shader caching just now, and it's doing pre-caching now, 10 minutes in on it so far and it's at 30/924.
Its so weird that they are getting reports of pre-caching issues. Not sure if it's only the rookies, but that has never happend to me before.

[editline]31st October 2012[/editline] I love the first Natural Selection. I used to play all the time on G4B2S and I-AM clan servers. Always enjoyed the siege maps and screwing around in the RR. Pre-ordered this game the minute I was able to (years ago). Really happy for UW and this amazing leap they took with a sequel. I have no doubt in my mind that this game will become like its predecessor! [editline]31st October 2012[/editline] The Marines are supposed to seem 'powerful'. It's the way they balanced the game with the evolution capabilities of the Aliens. If the Marines aren't smart with their tactics and quick with their upgrades then the Aliens will certainly overcome them easily and most of the time without warning. One minute you will be fighting a few skulks, the next you will be swarming with Ono's and Gorges!

My rig should be able to handle this game like nobody's business but instead I'm down at ~25 FPS. Is there a compatibility issue with NS2 and Eyefinity?
Its so weird that they are getting reports of pre-caching issues. Not sure if it's only the rookies, but that has never happend to me before.
Yep, me neither.
Took me about two minutes to precache.
Got it to load now in 5-ish minutes now, had to reboot my entire PC for some reason because even after past 30 minutes it was only in 57 lol
I really, REALLY like the marine tweak where the walking speed when going backwards is greatly reduced. Makes endlessly backpedaling away while spraying bullets impossible, which is pretty damn neat.
Discussing low fps on high-end rigs? You can tell beta has ended.
Marine commander is really stressful. I'm fine with buildings and positioning and upgrading, but every time I see a marine die because I wasn't fast enough with the medkit... makes me tear up a little
That's why I perfer the role of an alien comm. Much more passive and "relaxed"
Oh man, playing 1 hour games where neither of the commanders know what they are doing is fun :v:. Rookies should try to learn commanding on rookie servers first, but I guess there aren't enough of them at the moment.
Is there a way to rebind my Hotkeys as Commander? I want them to be bound to 1-7 (so like, 1, 1 to build a command centre)

Is anyone else not picking up any servers on the browser?
Is anyone else not picking up any servers on the browser?
Steam community just went down for ~10 minutes, might have been why.

One minute you will be fighting a few skulks, the next you will be swarming with Ono's and Gorges!
i was running around with an un-upgraded shotgun in the first few minutes of the match and i could hit a skulk with half of my shotgun pellets or whatever the fuck from about 15 feet away and kill it. the previous patch before it got a buff where you had to pretty much hit it dead on from like 5-10 feet was FAR more balanced, even if the skulk has every upgrade imaginable an unupgraded shotgun can still take one out with one shot before it can even get close. it's fucking retarded. doesn't take many shotgun blasts to take out a fade either which is pretty much the only other main thing aliens are going to use before they get enough resources for onos. having a level 1 shotgun which pretty much makes aliens useless in combat for the first 15 minutes of a match was a horrible idea, the game was way more balanced before release, where they made it so if a marine wandered off alone he was probably going to die. it encouraged teamwork and sticking together. now, a marine can run around like it's CoD with a shotgun and not even get touched by the aliens. [editline]31st October 2012[/editline] pretty sure marines aren't "supposed" to seem powerful. they're supposed to seam weak and shitty versus a god damn ALIEN. that's the point. marines are weak feeble so they have to stick together in order to win a match. they threw that concept right out the window
When you put it that way I agree. I remember trying my hardest to stay alive as a Marine in NS1, sneaking around and communicating with my team. Now I just feel like I can rush in and not worry about shit. I'm sure they'll tweak these sort of things every so often.
This is a great game. So far, the people I've played with have been great. Played as aliens for the first match, then I tried to get to marines but I couldn't and one guy offered to switch teams so I could try them too.
I miss the HMG :(

Now I just feel like I can rush in and not worry about shit. I'm sure they'll tweak these sort of things every so often.
There were definitely patches in the beta where marines were basically useless and aliens won 90% of the time even with a shit commander, but i think the 2nd to last patch before release was when it was the most balanced. In a 1v1 battle if the alien was at range there was a pretty damn good chance he'd die fairly quickly. if he was right up in your face, if you were a good marine you'd bunny hop like a bitch and might be able to kill him but it was definitely more likely the alien would. shotguns helped counter the skulks ability to rape in close range, but didn't completely remove their ability to do so. now, assault rifles, shotguns, and even pistols just ass rape skulks completely and make aliens totally useless until they get fades, which even then can only really take out assault rifle marines because a few blasts from a shotgun and you're dead now. if i wanted to run around lone wolf style and taking out scragglers, i would play alien. once in a while set up ambushes with teammates but mostly just harassing the other team into slowly losing. if i wanted to be more team oriented and organized etc. i would play marines. they've pretty much turned that completely around, now marines are lone wolfs AND team players while aliens, even if they're team players, just get mowed down completely. i'm hoping for a fix by the end of the week since they're usually pretty good on that but man right now aliens just isn't fun whatsoever
Ono's can cause some serious chaos if you know what you're doing. Took several marines and many clips to take one down after chasing him back to his hive... Fades seem to be weaker too. I was able to pistol one trying to blink away down the hallway.
They weren't very clear on steam. What does the Deluxe edition bring in addition?

Has Deluxe stuff went out yet?
if you got a pre-order copy from a beta tester, do you get the digital deluxe benefits?
Yeah I was wondering the same thing! They didn't have this "deluxe edition" thing back when I was able to pre-order. First I've heard of it!
You are a bad person if you don't buy this game.
It's such a bullshit how in 13 out of 16 matches I've played today the teams have been balanced Veteran Frontiersmen vs. Rookie Kharaa. It's not much asked if the veterans would look at the scoreboard before automatically joining Frontiersmen and kindly balance the teams out. The game is great anyway and everybody should buy it, I was positively surprised how well it runs with my semi-old computer in 1920x1080.
No severs in the browser, Fails to authenticate when i try to use explore mode; unngh guess I'm stuck waiting till they fix this.
