This game needs more coverage. There is like only 3 reviews of unpopular sites :(
Guys, hey guys. I'm planning to buy this game and I'm asking if you could give me the good parts of this game, and if it's worth 23 euros. Also, how'd the game run on these specs? CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 445 Rana 45nm Technology Graphics Card: GeForce GTS 450 3gigs of RAM.
pretty good, runs alrgiht on my qsomething quad and gts250 on nearly max settings
My only really major complaints about the game after 25 hours played are the lethality increase for marines when shotguns and w1 roll out, and the meta of getting map control > spam onos/dual CG exos. The former is less annoying if you have a comm that gets upgrades (celerity so you don't get hit, carapace so you can survive the 1 shot) but if neither of these happen it's incredibly frustrating to die over and over in a single shot to a weapon that has pellet spread. It wasn't much different from NS1 so I'll congratulate them on their consistency but it was still annoying back then too. The latter is a bigger problem for me. Fighting massed Onos just isn't very fun. You put magaizne after magazine into this moving wall of meat and hate only to get chain knocked down and killed without being able to do anything. Exos are less frustrating to fight, but the dual exo trades Onos survivability for sheer ranged attack power. When they are massed with support its GG from there and the next 2-10 minutes is just formality spawn camping with a TTK of .02 seconds. I could probably live with the shotgun lethality thing considering counters are in the game and you just have to rely on the commander and map control to help out, but I'd really like the mass onos/exos to be toned down. Fighting one or two is fun and adrenaline-building. Fighting 4 with heals is just a boring slog to inevitable defeat.
I'd like to see exos have more downtime, to reload/repair etc, and for onos too
I run with 25 - 50 depending on the map. I usually drop down to 10 - 15 a bit later in the game, in the big fights or bases. i7 920 3.1 ghz. 6gb ram. 295 GTX. 1080. Ambient occlusion off. Atmospherics off.
How does one turn voice activation off? I changed it to another button but everyone can still hear me, I don't feel like being able to talk 24/7 into your microphone. They'll hear me fap to this awesome game.
It's not supposed to be on unless you press a button
If you minimize with the mic button pressed then it toggles you have to press it again to turn it off
Ah thanks.
so I just had a game when it was 5v5, we had 3 onos and 1 fade vs 4 jetpacking marines geez I never realized that 3 onos can actually blow up a command point before 4 marines can break a hive
Bragdas, I assure you the presence of an Exosuit does not ensure victory. It sure helps, but they still need good players to be an asset. One of the strategies I like to use as the alien commander is to drop a spike wall behind the Exosuit so he is isolated, and then rush him with skulks. Other times when I am a Lerk or Fade, I like to kill the marine with the welder when he is behind the suit (basically removing his medic and support), and then the Exo is alone and open season for the rest of my team. Ammo and Medkits are honestly really nice to have when moved far up. Marines don't have a definitive "medic" class, so the commander will have to suit the bill. You also need to remember that Meds and Ammo cost money, and I have lost matches as Marine Commander because I have supported my soldiers almost too effectively. When you send a lot of meds, you don't have the money to spend for better upgrades, and you begin to fail late game. As for other missing bits, UWE said they are going to continue development on this game for a long while after release. There are loads of new things they wanted to put in, but couldn't, as well as game functions too. Bullet Decals, Proper refraction transparency (would be used for cloaking + water), The Spider (T3 Web for Gorge to deal with Jetpacks), Babblers (swarmers that pours out of mature crags), Proper 3D Infestation, Color Grading, and many more. This is what the cloak was intended to look like. Kind of like if you have ever played "The Hidden: Source", or seen the "predator" skin in Gmod, this is what I am talking about. A lot of the models were even designed for transparency, but they never managed to get around to it because of the development time. The Eggs, Spur, Veil, Drifters, and especially the Shade were supposed to be see through.
Oookay but using the exosuit offensively is what gets it killed, the marines can win a game by doing agressive defense, that is, make a push forward and hold your ground til you get an armory, that part is hard unless you got exosuit(s), your exosuits will defend until your commander gets ARCs, and when there is as many exosuits as there are aliens player -2 for welding, there is nothing you can do, at all. And you can be certain that's what's gonna happen once people realize that's how you use exos, it's already starting to spread, marines have much more versatility and options than aliens, all it takes is a corridor, and there are plenty around tech points in every maps.
idk we had 4 onos ses + 3 ghost ones running around and the marines had 2 exos and we still barely won
Gave my first go as Alien commander, ended up as an epic zerg with 7 Onos. :D
ok this game looks really good and it does play really smoothly for me now bar the occasional frame-freeze but theyre there for like 1-3 seconds, still annoying. but it overheats my computer, suddenly the frame freezes, sound is stuck looping, and computer restarts itself not cool game, not cool

Has anyone ever flashed their bios to sort out issues with crashing? Only other thing left for me to do after reformatting and still getting a crash so many minutes into the game.
Omygod i was like alien commander one match and there was a shade in a room and marines rushed in. I put down whips one after another and the marines just casualy look around looking at them and see them disappear and are like "i don't know what that is but it surely ain't gonna harm me since i don't see it anymore." :v:
Just fixed my performance issues. Turns out SLI isn't supported yet at all, but it can be fixed by telling nvidia control panel to force alternating rendering between the cards. Now i'm running 46 frames minimum even under heavy load, maxed out. Internet gods bless my 295GTX, this card won't give up on any game i throw at it.
I remember when i had a gtx280 and i thought it was the best card ever. ~im so old ~
I remember when i had a gtx280 and i thought it was the best card ever. ~im so old ~
The 295GTX despite being so many years old, usually isn't more than a couple cards down on Nvidia benchmarks. Even when pitted against the most powerful 600 series cards. I am so proud of this thing. And to think i got it for the price of a single 270 all those years back. Some serious value man. Seriously sucks when games don't support sli though.

Another one is a rushed counter-push on one of their secondary bases. The one furthest from the exosuits. When that happens the commander has to decide to either beacon all light infantry back and isolate exos, or to lose a base.
The leaning tower of Onos!

If you send enough aliens to do serious damage to their main base, then your defense won't punch through, if you send too few aliens, then the marines who are called back won't be gone for even 30 seconds, even without a phase gate, the exosuits will hold the ground all the time, besides, MACs, Nano Suit, pressing your S key will keep you alive when you have a bunch of turrets and other exos shooting an infinite stream of bullet for a <1 sec downtime to cool the miniguns down (no downtime if you have dual miniguns at all..) The marines just have too much versatility, siege weaponry, fast moving capacity, scans, dropping health kits & ammo left and right (and no, having them cost 1 doesn't make it fair, the only time 1 res is important is when the game JUST started), they should either put a cooldown, or raise the cost, or a mix of both, the more you use it in a short window, the higher the cost. What's the brilliant design idea for not giving aliens a minimap? Why can't the hiveMIND give orders to its minions? There's no such thing as an alien defense, your best defense is to throw yourself in the corridor where they're waiting for you at the far end, defending their ARCs which are laying down waste to your buildings, and there's nothing you can do about it. The biggest (and in my opinion only downside at endgame) downside to a marine is his own skill with accuracy, that's silly, if you're a great skulk against a great marine, you're done, the marine won't be taken off guard because he knows where the spots are, he knows how to aim properly, your movement can only be as skilled as the game allows you to move, after a while the guy will get used to the game's way of handling jumps and shit. And even if you do suck at using a weapon, you can just take a grenade launcher and lob grenades left and right through the doorway to the alien's base, while your teammates just tear everything that might try to come for you, bad at dodging? No problem, get a jetpack and suddenly nothing can kill you while you press space.. Too much damn versatility. I really fail to see myself at a disadvantage whenever I play marine, when I die, the only reason I ever find is "My aimed was really off", When I'm doing good, I essentially never die outside of a blatant outnumbered situation (well, if I don't have a jetpack, then I can just run on back while killing everything that pursues me..).
I just started playing this game today. The exosuit has the best punch sound ever, seriously, I just ran around punching scenery just to hear how it sounded. My team wasn't very pleased with that though.
After playing Aliens, I can see why people say Marines are OP
After playing Aliens, I can see why people say Marines are OP
Either teams can be OP, it depends on the players and more specifically the commanders.

Talking about balance right now is a bit silly, the majority of the players don't even know what most of the buildings/upgrades do and know nothing about the metagame.
