I'll probably make a mod that adds more options sometime this week, should only be stuff that is accessible from console commands though so nothing functionally new, just a way to access them in the GUI. Commands such as maxfps (which may be added officially anyway).
Well, not having a control over units on the field (be it marines or aliens) is rather lack of communication, than "ability" to place waypoints (you can place marks, or whatever, as an khammander).
Tell your teammates about situation.
Spamming medpacks and ammo isn't really a teamwork... it's just spamming medpacks and ammo that players pick up.
Teamwork would be if you could actually prevent that damage being done and ammo being consumed by proper recon and covering fire.
I find more of your "medpack teamwork" in placing forward healing spots as an alien.
First of all, aliens need to deny marines from reaching that spot before it matures/grows.
Secondly, aliens needs to know about that location and they need to fall back to there in order to gain benefits of it.
Though, I agree, it's equivalent to forward armories (the most overpowered building in the game in current build).
Bear in mind. Aliens are about movement, not only in combat but also in relocation.
Marines have it easy actually, they have the fastest expanding capabilities from both sides, best defending capabilities and they have also the greatest map control possible (phasegates + beacon).
This all means, you need to communicate with your fellow aliens even more, it's much harder to organize a coordinated attack on single spot (that's why forcing fellow aliens to become onos is so desired for khammanders in pub play).
In the meantime, when you are commanding fellow aliens, you are growing infestation and reinforcing key locations with whips, crags and shifts + shades.
Sorry, but I do seriously think that Alien require WAY MORE teamwork than marines, though it's much harder to receive one currently, when most players are new.
The hardest thing right now, is to convince players to stop attacking that 6 exos coming your base and instead rush their main base... If marine 8 man team, rushes 6 exos... It's GG for them, they lost it. But most of the time, aliens tries to fight them and obviously they go 1 by one on those exos, results are obvious.
So, to sum it up:
Communication and amount of teamwork on alien team is in overall more important than for marines, as they have most of it build in, due to limitation of their movement ( it changes slightly when they get jetpacks, you see more lonewolfs running of).
Aliens needs more coordination and communication to succeed.
Beside that, aliens really need more skilled players in more aspects of the game, not only aiming and jumping above skulks.
That's entirely my thoughts, that I have created over course of over 1 year of playing NS2.
You can place marks (ping) as any player, not sure if only the commander can see it though or the whole team.

That's "ping" not a "mark".

Thanks.
Like it even matters, cloaking is garbage. Countered by a building essential to marine tech and easy enough to see anyway as long as you know what to look for.
I love cloaking myself, managed to win a game with two cloaky onos because they had to keep putting money into mines to stop us from sneaking into their base.
I think I may have just figured out how to get an entity from an ID
I hope this works when I can try it, damn education getting in the way of me modding an indie game.

Or the comm could have scanned. Or had an observatory in base. You know, the structure that is required for phase gates and protolabs, the lynchpin of marine mid-game?
[sp]you played against a bad comm[/sp]

Sounds like really useful advice! I've never explored using shifts yet, let alone 5xcrag+shift.
Well that was a long match, The marines held up for ages in their one base.
Eventually we took out their power and i needled down around 4 guys attempting to repair and 2 that tried to run off.

Is there a reason not to use alien vision apart from windows being invisible + flames being invisible?

So you can see further then 10 feet ahead of you. Your range is limited also im pretty sure it blocks orders the commander gives
I don't really notice not being able to see in front of me that far?
It's harder to see if you're almost dead
I don't really notice not being able to see in front of me that far?
at least for me its dark as shit past like 10 feet infront of me
I love using the Lerk.
Flying and shooting spines at unsuspecting Marines is so much fun

It may be dark but the things that matter are all highlighted that far away?
This is currently outselling Borderlands and XCOM.

You can't tell how dark the area that you're in is. You can be on top of some pipes and think you're decently hidden, little do you know you have a light shining down on you making you clear as day. I just toggle between it when I'm hiding to make sure I'm actually hidden.
somebody in a server i was playing in admitted and bragged about making and using a mat hack mod that made invisible aliens bright blue.
I think I encountered an aimbot the other day when a guy went 55/5 as a marine and no matter how erratically people jumped, he would still land every shot on 3 skulks charging at him despite them jumping off walls/ceilings/everything. Also when he got his Exo suit, you could watch the tracers instantly change their orientation depending on what he was shooting at. It was a bit more obvious when the tracers started following a Lerk perfectly as it was flying around at max speed while constantly changing directions. It's not like he was defending a base and had open ground to him, he was in an area that had tons of pipes above that we could hide in, and plenty of corners to come around. He was also basically inside the room adjacent to our hive room, so it's not like we simply weren't swarming him enough.

If you have a bunch of your skulks buddies fighting a large pack of marines quickly fly around the marines in a circle about 2-3 times while using the Umbra ability "The choking green gas"
It'll slowly chip away at their health while they are fighting and most of the times it'll obscure their vison

umbra is orange and protects against damage. you're thinking of spores

you ever tried forcing your way through 30 clogs (that's being refilled) with no weapon upgrades
Made a mod that reverses which direction the weapons scroll using a scrollwheel which is all fine and dandy except this file is consistency checked so the server must also have this mod for this tiny change to work.

I barely play marines :v:
Gonna get a new CPU for this and overclock it, i really hope they optimise it more but what can you do with lua.
