Fades can be (slightly) OP, but only if the user knows what they are doing. It's just their HP though, I mean, they can take 2-3 close range shotgun hits, which makes it almost impossible to kill them without help from buddies. good buddies, not retards.
Apparently there is a script error in this build that causes a lot of lag on the server side, so if the game feels more laggy than usual it's probably that. Server performance actually affects client performance also in this game.
I was just playing as an alium minding my own business, when suddenly, Drifters. Drifters everywhere. also server lag

So it's not a matter of player X vs player Y, it's a matter of X number of resources vs. Y number of resources. It's something that tends to be native to strategy games and is often overlooked. In Natural Selection 1, evolving to the Fade lifeform cost 50 res. If you died, you lost the evolution and spawned as a Skulk again. So naturally, the Fade has to be quite strong to justify spending 50 res. Unfortunately, most people seem to only think in terms of "I got owned by someone else using X, eventhough I'm a much better player. Conclusion: X = overpowered."
A Fade in Natural Selection would usually go down in 3 close hits with a shotgun anyway. A paper Fade even less.
Gorilla? I aways saw onos as a giant bull
The Ono is modeled after a Gorilla.
i dont think many of the ns1 maps had that problem because most of them were pretty large in size and had random starting locations for both sides
Most of them had fixed marine start and random alien start. Think this was the setup of all official maps.
when do humans get heave armour and HMG?
Just pre-ordered and waiting for it to finish downloading, can't wait to play! [editline]11th February 2012[/editline] Just finished my first full round. God damn that is fucking fun! Can't wait for the performance issues to be fixed soon, even though it still is playable with them.
So me and my friend decided we are going to try to make a map in preparation for the inevitable Heavy Suit release. Hopefully we make it good enough so its put into NS2. I will document our progress and post here every so often. EDIT: Start of the ready room, probably going to change it.
Everybody needs to play this game. I just learned how to command, and it was really rewarding
Currently, the best games I had were in the InversionNS servers. (I think). Best ping for anyone in America.
I suggest you get yourself as familiar with the editor as possible before investing time on a complete map. While it is tempting, and I fell in the same pitfall, you will end up with a rubbish layout and lost drive. Also, setting the layout down on paper before putting it on the computer has importance that I cannot stress enough. Especially if multiple people are working on the same map. Making isolated style tests will help tremendously. For example (Click for full size.): This is just a normal hallway that is not connected to anything. When I made this, I felt genuinely proud because it was a drastic improvement from what I was doing before. Also, finishing little things like that compelled me to further make other content. When you feel confident that you are capable with the editor, then you should start 'greying' out your map. I only finished greying out the layout of my map a couple days ago, after finally getting the brains to plan my way through it and draw a layout. Here are some screenshots of some rooms in my map. Please note that the two dark screenshots show the room that is in very early development. I have neither done any lighting or detail passes, but the rudimentary scaffolding and game geometry are mostly the way I want. But until I can get a playtest of the map, I can not be certain how I want the bridges to be lain out. Here is the first one.
The most fun alien class to play for sure:
This gameplay makes the game look like a pretty shit game if you're playing marines.
I am noticing a distinct lack of sentry turrets in that video, which definitely weighs heavily at how effective a fade is at base harassment.
This gameplay makes the game look like a pretty shit game if you're playing marines.
Once marines have everything researched they're practically unstoppable though.
Once marines have everything researched they're practically unstoppable though.
And so in lategame it's the same but in reverse :v: Not to bash, I just find it hard to believe the ballance of the original can be retained with all this new and reworked stuff :)

They did a very good job at balancing NS1. Ofcourse things are bound to be broken in beta. You can't add a feature and expect it to be balanced right away. They need to be playtested a lot.
Fades with frenzy are OP, otherwise, everything's really balanced right now. Of course, that is, the marines don't have the wielder yet (Allows them to fix buildings) so the aliens can easily bum rush their spawn early game and destroy their command station. They also don't have the exoskeleton with the miniguns yet, either. The aliens are missing one hive type which means at least two upgrades. The infection system isn't completely done yet, as well. As of now it's really easy to push back infestation by destroying cysts.
I would love to learn how to map for this game, but I have no idea where to start.
I just love playing as Marines simply because of the atmosphere. I dont care if I die I just like the futile attempts at shooting at fades (I have awful aim) and getting mauled.
This gameplay makes the game look like a pretty shit game if you're playing marines.
Their team was really bad tbh. Upgraded shotguns take out fades in two well aimed shots, which shouldn't be that hard to do if the marines are moving in a group. I think the game is actually fairly balanced for what it is at the moment, especially when you consider that they don't even have all of the gameplay elements implemented, like welders. Those will make a huge difference since marines will be able to seal certain passages around the map with them. Currently the maps seem to make the biggest difference in terms of balance, I've seen a pretty even win-lose ratio in most maps, but in mineshaft I've seen the marine team win once. And that's in about 20-30 games. Although in the end it still comes down to how good the players are. If the marines can't hit shit like in this video, this ends up happening.
Wow Balancing in this game is a joke. If 8 aliens just rush the marines base at start they win every time.
Wow Balancing in this game is a joke. If 8 aliens just rush the marines base at start they win every time.
Honestly its something that has always been in NS1, If one team is better then the other by a bit, then its a brutal loss. For example lets say your team both had 8 players, 1 is commander. The 7 of you could of defended 8 skulks relatively effectively considering they can only come from 2 directions to most bases. Thankfully, in NS2 the base start locations are random or are going to be. But time consuming. I'm used to 3D modeling a bit though so working in a 3D environment isn't new to me
I REALLY liked the game, just bought it and played for one hour. Though my computer cant run it worth shit, 48 fps with graphics on lowest possible and on lower resolution avaliable. The resolution is so low i can't see the server list so i have to change it to a higher resolution then change it to the smaller one back once i'm inside the server. Is there a way to join servers alternativelly so i don't have to go trough this? :c
Funny
But the resolution is so low i can't see the server list And now i found out that i can't also buy weapons as marine thanks to the same issue D: If i increase the resolution to one i can actually select weapons / see server list, shit goes down to 14~20

anything below 30 fps is pretty bad fps and 30 fps is decent not great but you can still play
I run good enough at 30 FPS. also, now that they buffed the marines, aliens can't win early. So the marines can just spam sentries, get jetpack+Flamethrower and win instantly. Yeah. Back from a two hour game that was just that.

Same happened and someone kept complaining about marines with jetpacks and flamers i suppose that was you then :v:
