Aren't they doing weekly updates?
They want to, yes.
Game got stuck again. And we were having an awesome game as marines (and ofcourse there's no history so I can't find that server). mood killer
There's something wrong with the game? I haven't noticed anything.

It's nearly impossible to connect to any server. Just kicks me out and says it couldn't make a connection. It's a fairly common problem right now.
Anyway, just played comm for the first time, alien. Took me a few minutes to get the hang of it and as a result I accidentally made my two hives Shade and Crag, so speed didn't come until the end of the end of the game. The players said I did pretty good so I'm happy
Yesterday I went counter to the movement of everyone else so that I ended up behind the Marines, as a Fade. There were about four exosuits, all surrounded in a swarm of MACS. I blinked in, and started hacking up an exosuit. They all paniced, and sprayed at me. I had double adreneline so I flew around until they overheated then blinked back at them and started hacking them up again. Macs were repairing them, but it was too slow. One mech went down. I blinked around as they started spraying blindly again, then landed ontop of one of the mechs and started attacking him from an angle the other mech couldn't touch me at. The MACs were too clustered to properly weld him, so he went down. I spammed blink at random angles before turning back and hacking up the last mech, at this time teammates have arrived at my position and were taking down the MACs. I killed the third mech, and I was badly wounded. I saw a fourth coming down the hallway to Atrium (I forget what map this was), I went to blink behind him but he caught me first and riddled me full of holes. However, he was expecting MACs to be there. Instead, were a bunch of pissed off aliens that made short work of him.
And that's how I protected the hive.
Someone in chat said
"Wow, Stolid, you're a badass!" on the marines side.
I said 'Thanks <3'
Then he said, "Just kidding, you're a fucking asshole, what a waste of 75 resources."

Alien commander thanked me, though.

For the rest of the game he noticed every single time I killed him, and would get mega pissed off in chat whenever he had a fairly expensive load out like jetpack + flamethrower :v:

Oh he was in the other team?
haha, he was just mad.
Think I'll wait a while before I command again, there's so much pressure.

After reading the review, it sounds like he got pubstomped, got mad, made a short uninformative review and added a bunch of awful screenshots. That was painful.

Yeah it gets pretty intense. Played as Alien Commander again and we're doing great. Have the entire map locked down except for 1 extractor, when I few stray marines start trying to push out from their base. My team starts asking me, "What are your orders Commander?" and all I could think was, "Are you shitting me? Just rush that shit, we've got this in the bag!"
Then I figured this guy probably wanted me to come up with something slightly more tactical so I told them to group up(stop going in as onos one at a time) and... rush that shit. Worked out great. I think they didn't have a commander at the start or something though as we grabbed the entire map pretty comfortably.

I agree with the youtube vids being pretty weak as a learning tool though. I never played NS1 and there's like literally 24 hours worth of video in there before you've watched them all. I skipped that shit so fast.
That review is total bullshit from the start. First off, my two year old PC (that is certainly not high-end anymore) gets me into a server from the desktop in about 30 seconds. Second, steep learning curve my asshole. I only have five hours played (downloaded the game 11 hours ago) and I find that I'm on a similar level to most other players in the game already. I've never played NS1.
Redundant hallways? Are you fucking kidding me? If there weren't, every single game would end up in a bottlenecked stalemate.
And the guy who wrote that is a complete asshole for not realizing that the community basically built the game, and that since he puts so much emphasis on how the game doesn't explain what does what, he doesn't connect the fact that, since it's also multiplayer only, you're always surrounded by other human players - in a game that heavily relies on communication.
What I'm getting at is that all you have to do is ask somebody. If nobody answers, the players you're with are destined to be uncoordinated and terrible.

I didn't even watch the YouTube videos. Just joined a server and started playing and everything became pretty self explanatory
He didn't even get the price right.
How to play marine: 4 minutes.
How to play skult (basic): 7 minutes.
How to play skult (advanced): 9 minutes.
How to play gorge: 27 minutes.
How to play lerk: 9 minutes.
:v:
In reality though I understand the basic role of marine is point and shoot.
But they could have explained more how to be more useful as marine or how to aim correctly to counter various aliens.
Even having how to effectively take down the various aliens.
marine tutorial could be summed up in
"don't be a cunt, don't overextend without your team, jump a lot, shoot aliens, okay now go build shit and listen to your comm"
I found the tutorials wern't really tutorials at all, it was usualy more of the dev's let's play
I wanted to learn more about alien commander so I figured I'd give it a try, watched the full thing and it was completely useless. No alright so you need to do X and Y and this is how you do Z...just him playing it and not showing how to do anything....
Dunno if posted already but if you have issues with the server browser being empty, turn off the steam in game overlay

How do you teach someone to aim correctly? :v:
I think the tutorial does a fairly good job at teaching the basics, you can't really teach the metagame in a tutorial, that's something you learn and get good at as you play the game. One thing that is completely missing though is that they never explain the skulk wall jump mechanic. It's actually pretty important for maximizing your effectiveness. You can gain much higher speeds when you do that and also makes it less likely for the marine to hit you once you actually face one.

Wow.
That guy might as well remove that entire review, and replace it with the words "I'M A CUNT" and it would be just as useful to read, and it would save time too.
anyone else get really shit latency even if the server is like
right next to them
is this a bug or an issue on my end
Why does he say this?
and the color palette for the levels is uniformly grey and brown, with a dirty chartreuse for the alien parts.
right below this?

There is not a single bit of grey in that pic, only blue.

I think he wrote up that review for Black ops 2, then realized they were paid off to give it a 10/10 so he just changed some details around to make it relevant for Natural selection 2
I love Natural Selection 2's graphics. There's a lot of atmosphere and good use of lighting.
I especially love the lighting in the remake of Veil. It's just so vibrant while at the same time being moody and in some places eerie.
there's something to be said for the jerry-rigged feel of Natural Selection 2's gameplay and graphics.
lmao NS2 worked better in beta than Battlefield 3 or MW3 do a year later, get fucked Gamespot.
[editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
NS2 process
Right click friend on Steam > Join Server > Load Game > Ready Room > Pick Team
BF3 process
Go to website > Start Origin > Try to refresh servers > Battlelog is a useless piece of shit getting between me and the gameplay > Finally get a server > Stuck on a team until the round ends because of shitty plugins > Friend gets infinite loading bug > We make it in and squad up > Next map splits us apart > Stop playing shitty, poorly put together modern warfare titles
[editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
All that said, Natural Selection 2 is filled with promise if you can put in the hours of grinding necessary to learn the units, maps, controls, and balance,
Learning games is now grinding.
But Medal of Duty: Combat Field with it's hundreds of hours of arbitrary unlocks for the smallest things (get 350 kills with this gun to unlock it's sight!!!) isn't even mentioned in reviews.
That review is pretty terrible but that Gelugon_baat guy in the comments is even worse.
a fact of life in online gaming is that some people are apathetic, unskilled, and prone to quitting matches in a rage.
I guess he's talking about himself here.
[h=3][/h]
long load times? <10 secs oh god that's slow. I hate reviews that bring up other games every paragraph just for the sake of it too.
That guy in the comments keeps on defending Gamespot despite all the arguments. A true fanboy
Some Commanders seem to look at kills when they make an Onos egg and tell people to use it. My friend was on top of the score-list with over 100 points with 0 kills and 0 deaths. He had mostly been running around as Skulk, destroying extractors, power nodes and repair bots (because the Commander wasn't making any upgrades thus making the Skulk almost useless in combat) and when he approached the egg the Commander said
"Not you, 0 kills :/"
and told a player with 2 kills to use it. I'm sure he was a lot better player then.
Pathetic how people still seem to carry over the whole Modern Warfare / Call of Duty / Counter-Strike mentality to this game.
Kills don't mean shit. Points do. So fed up of seeing other players saying "Yes, got that kill, fuck yeah. Check out my kill / death ratio man!" or seeing people holding back from a fight because they clearly don't want to die.
Yeah they're idiots. Honestly I don't really care who grabs the onos eggs I dump down as long as someone does and attempts to group up with the rest of the team. Had a game where I'd dumped an onos egg and no one used it for the 15mins it was there, which utterly confused me as I kept mentioning it.
