what is wrong with this person
Wow you're pretty bad at picking up sarcasm.
[editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
He was making valid points but you were just latching onto one little mistake he made in the previous comment. Then you turn it around and act all condescending, making it seem like he's the idiot? Good going buddy!
Pathetic how people still seem to carry over the whole Modern Warfare / Call of Duty / Counter-Strike mentality to this game.
Kills don't mean shit. Points do. So fed up of seeing other players saying "Yes, got that kill, fuck yeah. Check out my kill / death ratio man!" or seeing people holding back from a fight because they clearly don't want to die.
onos in base, distress -> half the team stays in the base instead of chasing the onos (wich will most of time kill him)
i've even chased onoses to their hives on the other side of the map in order to land a killing blow

They do mean shit. A skulk you killed is one less possible skulk looking for a lonely RT to munch. The less you die means you were on the field more which is always a good thing. That doesn't necessarily mean that kills are more important than running around the map welding people for example though. This is also the same reason the point system is kinda useless right now since it mostly just rewards you for kills. You don't get very many points for building stuff and you get no points at all for healing and welding people.
I'm sure you get +5 when you build something which is the same amount of points as killing a skult.
[editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
Also I do agree with killing the enemy team does help your team out.

yeah people need to stop being dumb and valuing their freshly spawned skulk/marine life as if they have something to lose and stop being scared. Scenario you said always happens, onos attacks base, 5 marines shoot it, it runs away, all marines hide in base still...
worst ones are the skulks that run to the hive to heal when it would be faster to die and respawn instead.. a 3hp skulk is still useful, an extra target for a marine so your skulk buddies can get in but nope. gotta heal up.

It's actually alot better to try to stay alive other than going for a suicide mission. Why? Simple:
You don't get resources when you're dead. It's always better to retreat and heal up than die.

Yeah, but there are still many situations where that suicide mission will pay off. Like the situation with the onos they described. If he manages to kill the onos they lose a 75 pres lifeform while the marine only lost maybe about 0.5 res? Another worthwhile suicide mission is running into a unprotected hive and start destroying the upgrades. You will surely die but if you get even one upgrade down then it was worth it.

not getting res? thought it was a team game, who cares if i lose out on some res when it meant the other 2 who survived take out more than what I would've gained if I were alive.

pretty much this. if what you make them lose if more than you would gain. it was worth it. spawned fresh marine, grabbed shotgun, killed fade and lerk and died. 80 res for 20. worth it and not even a loss cause a friendly can pick it up or myself when i get back which takes hardly any time.
What I meant is, yes, in some situations its better to die for the greater good, but if you have a choise to die to win nothing, or retreat and heal up, you're better off to heal up, and get back into the fight.

alright, just the wording was being interpreted as retreating is only option.
Sure its better to heal up when there's nothing to gain but my initial point was people keep valuing their skulk/0res marine life and play too safe.
What does 'RT' mean? someone was saying it to me yesterday as marine commander.
Resource something I guess
[editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
Someone make a list with frequently used abbreviations plox
I thought it was res tower, it refers to Extractors.
What does 'RT' mean? someone was saying it to me yesterday as marine commander.
My first guess would be that it's a common name for the Extractor and the alien-one-whose-name-I-forgot that you put on the Resource Nozzle-izzle-my-shizzle.
Also I learned yesterday that you can HOLD space bar to glide around as Lerk. Before that, I constantly tapped it like a retard and wondered how I'm supposed to fly around marines etc. while constantly facing them and shooting. Lerk just got a liiiiittle bit easier. :v:
RT = Resource tower
CC = Command chair. The building is actually called command station. In NS1 it was command chair, but the CC abbreviation is still used in NS2.
Obs = Observatory
IP = Infantry portal
Proto = Prototype lab
JP = Jetpack
PG = Phasegate
Robo = Robotics factory
Double = a room that has two resource nozzles in it. Nanogrid in Veil for example.
Comm = Commander
Pres = Personal resources
Tres = Team resources
These are the ones that come to my mind at the moment.

Yea I was commanding in some veteran server and I couldn't hear shit when people speak on their mic, they could of at least pinged then I would of known straight away.
Can be annoying sometimes when commanding too cause some people just expect you to be in 3 places at once.
When I was playing yesterday I joined a server with no alien commander so I jumped in and people complained, umm, quiet hard to pick up where someone left off cause you don't know what they have/haven't built. I also commanded the marines next game and some people were complaining about stuff which they don't deserve too considering it took about 5 minutes for someone to step up and command which was me again.
Yeah imo it was weird that they were renamed. I doubt ns1 players are ever going to refer to RT's as extractors. They're still called resource towers for aliens no?
also w1/w2/w3 - weapon upgrades
a1/a2/a3 - armor upgrades

I think the marine one is extractor and the alien one is harvester. You rarely see them being used though since everyone just calls them RT's.
Guys lets... All go exo and go to lava falls.
shame because we were up on RTs and map coverage but that retarded choice of my team lost the game. hate that map myself for some reason.
Guys, remember if you're commander: when you say "some of you go to X", either too many or too few will go, if you call names directly from the scoreboard to go somewhere, pick Top & Bottom, otherwise you send your 3 best somewhere and you instantly loose your previous place :v:
Inc=Incoming I had no idea what people were on about when they said that.
"Inc a2"
"Incorporated what?"

It'd be nice to see tool tips showing what the structures are or if a counter showed how many you have of each. I feel totally lost when I take over from another commander.
We just lost a game by being rushed by 5 whips an Onos and 2 lerks

I never comm'd marines yet but I wish aliens had some kind of ui to show what upgrades you have. It's hard to tell alien buildings apart (well, eggs/etc from shells and spurs and veils) so I can't always find them immediately. It's frustrating when some get destroyed.
Just ask people what is missing. Works fine for me.
comm starts game with 2 lerk eggs... gg game over before anyone does anything

yes
aliens also need to see tres / what the comm is placing imo

Look at your map to see where the buildings are, or the top left corner of the screen when something is placed, the t-res is shown in the tab score, but yeah, should be directly onscreen like marines.
