Regular marines will not be getting HMGs, at least not for 1.0. Regular marines will not be able to dual wield.
They will be able to purchase an Exosuit, which partly takes the role of the Heavy in NS1, but has Exo specific weapons. The base Exo comes with a minigun. You will be able to upgrade to dual wielding 2 miniguns. You will also be able to choose to swap out your minigun for a rail gun. You can then also choose to upgrade to dual wielding 2 rail guns.

Sounds awesome. I wonder how much it'll cost though.
So is anyone else but me still playing this? There have been a lot of big changes, they've pretty much reworked the alien commander completely and shitloads of smaller balance changes have been made. The latest addition is clogs for gorges, they are basically goo balls that you can use to build walls with that you can take cover behind or block some certain passages for example.
I expect to see a lot of these the next couple days though:

That is awesome. though i am not gonna play until they fix the FPS

(it is extremely fun to play btw)
Now in game and playable in the current build 210.
Oh, and marines can now weld doors and Onos can smash them down.
Also, dreamhack

Wasn't there a massive technical problem where there was no video for his first presentation? Pretty sure that's why he is getting another presentation 10h later.
Is it just me or the game runs much worse after latest updated?
If my ping is more than 100, I can barely aim
It could be the map itself isn't fully optimized maybe?
NS2_Turtle is made by someone on the forums, and NS2_Veil is being made by one of their playtesters if I remember correctly.
By the way, I've been making some massive strides in progress on my map NS2_Goliath, which is also another map which takes place on a starship. I can't give any links because the UW forums are down right now but the central room which is also the focal point of my map is almost complete. A few more occlusion and optimization pushes and I think I'll be able to commit the next update to steamworks.
I love this game, but I can tell that graphically it's not very optimized yet.
Also I know they change stuff in the game all the time, since they're still experimenting, but I played two weeks ago and none of the Alien upgrades cost anything. Plus aliens have their onos, while Marines don't have their exo suit yet.
Also it seems easier to kill as an alien, and harder to be killed.
Still, overall kick ass game.
Funny, a lot of people were talking about how OP marines are because of JPs.
Performance is definitely better than it used to be. Minus docking, I can hold a fairly smooth game even in late game when it usually drops down a lot. It still drops, but It's playable for me. It used to be so bad I stopped playing because of it.
It's pretty awesome. I've played the old NS quite a lot, so it's cool to see the improvements of the second part. Sometimes it's quite hard, but I personally favor the base building aspects.
This game is pretty good, just fuck....No heavy armor but jetpacks vs Onos? Oh okay. Seems fair enough(Just kidding). But Marines loose like 80% of the time. I'm not going to be playing this till they get off there asses and put in heavy armor.
Progress for my map has been going swimmingly. Also, if anyone else is interested, Psykoman has made some picture tutorials for curved surfaces and hallways.

Jetpacks prety much are the counter to Exosuit anyways and considering their air time is so damn long, they are almost impossible to kill with anyone but the Lerk. That being said, it is incredbly awesome when they are flying and you leap at em with skulk and kill them mid-air.
And the balance has improved drastically this patch. With team victories in general being a +-2% on either side, it has been a lot easier to get started as marine. That being said, there are some maps where one team has an advantage over the other. I think I heard mineshaft is more favourable towards the aliens because there are a lot of nearby easy expansions to get to. But Docking is a lot more favourable to Marines because of all the tight corridors, they can easily pick off a hive through the walls.
How populated are these servers?
If I preorder do I get to play or do I have to wait till it comes out?

If you pre-order you instantly get the latest build on Steam to play with. Though the game isn't as balanced as it could be yet, I still found it extremely fun and addicting.
-THE GAME IS VERY UNOPTIMIZED: Optimization will be done last according to the devs.
Actually according to the devs, optimization is an ongoing process and it has been going on alongside game development. A good example is back when the game was in alpha, you could barely have 4 people in the server and it would lag atrociously. Now I hear they reached a milestone where they neared 32 people in the server without it crashing.
As for player servers, I've found since this latest build, there are around 4-7 full servers running at all times. Don't let that discourage you though because you won't need to play on all servers at the same time. All you gotta do is find a way to cram into one of the populated local ones and it will fill up fairly quickly.
Whenever I join a game, it crashes.
Meanwhile I can run everything.
Everything.
Huh strange... I thought they said that with all of the adjustments being made still that focusing on optimization right now would be a waste of time... or something like that...
I don't know. It's good that things are improving though.
Also, I have yet to find a fully populated server with 32 people. I bet those games are amazing.
[editline]23rd June 2012[/editline]
If anything needs their full attention though, judging by the trailer, it's the animations of the characters in the game.
Oh well...
Priorities.
The 32 player server thing was an internal playtest which they actually recorded a bit of. Hugh had to cut the recording short though because someone got into an Exosuit and they aren't allowed to show it off yet. A little easter egg in the video though are the new infestation spikes at 4:05. Almost has a zombie master feel to it.

Love NS and the NS2 beta. I'm not play it as much at the moment due to performance issues, but I love the early game, playing as Skulks, or marines with just the basic weapons.
Bought the game a few weeks ago. Abso-fucking-lutely loving it. Last patch definitely gave a nice boost to performance.
I'm guessing not many people are playing it though, considering how dead this thread is. :suicide:
We are looking for a scorpion..... that hovers..... without flapping.

I've been debating to get this for like a year now, but I've been put-off by the severe lack of players...

wat
I honestly haven't heard of this game on any community site except for in dead threads and on the main forums themselves. I guess I'm just assuming, but I am really not willing to sacrifice $35 so easily.

I'm scared of opting in to another game with no multiplayer is what I'm saying, really. It's happened plenty of times to me.

Its no counterstrike, yeah but it has people playing daily.
I guess I might get it then when I have the money.

The only problem I have with the player amount is that all the populated servers are always full
