Shades are my new best friends. I just won a match because each of my bases had 6+ shades each; the marines couldn't find any of my stuff which gave my aliens time to destroy their command centers. It was hilarious watching the Exos try to figure out which rooms were empty or not.
Getting the upgrades is key for aliens. You get camo, armor and speed and you will wreck shit up playing stealth skulk. Just hang from the ceilings nearish to enemy activity and wait for one to pass you and sneak up behind em and bite em in the ass.
Celerity + Silence + Regeneration anytime for skulk.
Camo is for sissies who just started playing NS2.
It totally slows down alien map control, but just makes marines more careful and lowers their aggression until they get armor 1.

Sounds like poor marine commander play.

Personally I really dislike celerity and always go for adrenaline as I use leap a lot, I find silence to be almost too powerful considering it doesn't give warning to a commander if you munch anything except a command chair.. Which is just laughably powerful when you can munch the power node with nobody noticing (since the power node doesn't blink when attacked on the minimap).
i just dont like silence because i like hearing my own shit.

Silence makes it sound like the game is broken.
It's definitely awkward to have on an Onos, as is camouflage. Not that they aren't incredibly helpful though.

You almost always want to have silence over camouflage as onos - allows you to destroy bases without anyone noticing right off the bat, if a marine or two phase through? Well, marine, meet horn.

I don't know about that.
Camo is fun to have and can be quite useful, hiding in wait for a group of marines and popping out, killing them and then heading to their base at full speed.
It depends I suppose.
I gotta go to bed but I want to post this real quick
I have an ATI 7850 1GB+4gb ram+ AMD QUAD CORE 3.4GHZ
And my performance is great in NS2 on max settings at a resolution of 1440x900 but
I get this really weird freezing/stuttering problem sometimes ingame it's kind of hard to explain but (This stuttering/freezing problem doesn't occur in any other games so far)
I did try turning off Multicore rendering and that just makes my FPS dip to the 40's while when I have it on my FPS shoots through the roof
It really only happens when I go through phasegates or whenever I might try to open the menu sometimes it'll like freeze for a second or two then open, and sometimes it'll just happen randomly
Everything else ingame is fine performance is great but
Does anyone else in this thread possibly have this problem and know a solution to it?

This only works until either they scan, or you get in proximity of their base, or they start shooting around corners (it's not like it's hard to uncover an onos), while silence aliens will simply walk toward the base currently not being guarded, and start munching it down until someone sees this on his minimap.
Personally, I think camouflage shines toward the start of the game, by that I mean as the first hive, which is a big risk, because if the marines know you're going shade, they'll rush your first hive and egglock aliens.
Also, for some reasons camouflage make aliens think they can take on 3 marines by themselves just because they get the first bite in.. Which works, but only 1o1 or if the marines massively suck.
I gotta say, after playing a few games... Marines are really boring to me.

Camo as ono is hilarious though, I can just imagine their faces when they come into an empty room and suddenly a hulking beast materalizes out of the corner.

Think it's just poor coding or optimization, hitting ESC takes a few seconds before the menu pops up for me also. And if there's any stuttering I don't notice it as I get ~25 fps anyways
Took down two hives and won in an 8-man exosuit rush
Jesus

Yesterday I was out of ammo, all alone fighting skulks with my axe. Just as I was about to finish off the last one, thinking I was pretty badass, all of a sudden an Onos uncloaks right in front of me (I think it had been in the room the entire time) and turns me into a fine red mist.
Kind of disappointed with the state of this game right now, i expected that most problems would be fixed after all this time since the release. The engine is unstable as fuck, the netcode is one of the worst and there are very few people playing it, there's like one active server in my region and it's not a good one at all.
It's awfully entertaining when it works, it looks great mostly but i need to be lucky to have fun with this.

Okay beardy you can go ahead and tell me how the ridiculous server lag during chaotic matches is fine and how fun it is when the game crashes or freezes for no reason.
Gotta bear in mind that there are only really 1-3 people at most working on the engine (Max and Dushan). Out of a team of ~6-8. The fact that the game runs very good at 24-26 players is commendable. Especially if you have seen the very early versions of the game like I did. I remember when 4-6 players was completely unplayable due to lag + network problems back in the early alpha builds. It has come a long way and will continue to do so long after the game has been released.
Any chance of this game having a special offer?
I really want to get it.
it's on sale for 15 bucks right now and it was on flash sale for 10 bucks at the start of steam winter sale.

I get the menu freeze and some stuttering too with an i5 2500 and a 670. However my fps does generally stay over 60-80, just there's always a bit of stutter too.
I get the menu thing, also low fps when moving my mouse across the server list, Game runs fine though but I have it on an SSD. It did use to stutter a lot before though, couldn't have any graphic settings on at all, the last few patches have really improved performance for me

it might be your PC waiting for your HDD to load something, make sure you keep your HDD defragmented with something like defraggler http://www.piriform.com/defraggler - scedule it to run at least weekly, I suggest nightly.

See that performance thing on the server browser? Make sure it's 100%. Pretty sure all 'lag' is just the server being awful, if you have a good ping but you're still getting server lag, it's the server.

Believe servers are also limited to 30 tick, would be nice to see 66-100.

Stealthy Onos is perhaps the scariest thing I've seen in the game. I'm just walking down the hallway, minding my own business, when BAM! Giant rhinoceros monster out of fucking nowhere.
oh lets just walk down this corridor and *thump* OH HOLY SHIT RUUUN
Whenever I do the above half the time I'm laughing my ass off at the marines to do too much damage.
Just played my first two matches, alien both times. Loads of fun :o Maps are confusing as hell though, they all look/play the same to me so far, and its hard to figure out where to go without having the map and alien vision on 24/7. I'm sure I'll learn it more in time tho
Hey wassup fine gentlemen, just bought this, are there any Facepunch clans or groups I can join to help get my bearings?
Bought this, and basically what I've experienced is that the aliens own everything cause the first and only 3 matches I've played yet were as marines, and we lost every time.

3 matches, all of them marines lost, you were on the losing team.
I spy a pattern here...
