I find the grenade launcher to be absolutely suicidal to use.
then again, I'm horrible as a marine (unless I have a flamethrower)

It seems like the projectile lags no matter what latency you use it in.
All I use it for is blowing through a hive with a team of marines while jet packing behind them, then picking up someone else's gun when they go down.
Got the game on sale, just like most others have recently. I'm loving it. The gameplay is fun and complex without being too overbearing for new players. The community is fantastic for a game so heavily focused on team play. Everyone that has a mic is super helpful and friendly.
All the servers I joined tonight had the marines getting spawnraped by packs of skulks. Suffice to say it wasn't a good time.

You probably joined at the end of the game. That's how the aliens win. They gotta destroy the commanders chair which happens to be in the marine spawn room. Same with aliens.

Just let it run it's course and play from the beginning of the next round. Even if you do lose again you'll have a much better experience up to that point.

Had a pretty good game as marines just now. We lost but it was really fun. We were doing really good pushing with 3 exos on the enemy base while some infantry pushed another flank, but the enemy managed to stop our mech push and drove us all the way back to our base and raped us with Onos.

Has anyone messed around with mods for this? It's a really good game by itself but I could see people making some really cool additions.

There are several larger mods being worked on, like Sanity:

There is also lots of stuff on steam workshop
Jamin is remaking the ns1 player models!

snip fixed the link
Gosh there are some real pricks in this game. Had a leader berating the entire team because they weren't following his instructions word for word and then he goes on about how he's the best commander in the world and something about his win loss ratio. Best part is it was on a newbie friendly server where people shouldn't be expected to know the ins and outs of the game.

Playing as Onos with camo is so fun
Onos with camo is fucking terrifying.
Was playing as marine, walked out our base, Onos appears in front of me out of nowhere.
I turn round to run, another appears right in front of me again.

That's exactly what we did that round
Just started playing it today and I love it so far. Just gotta learn to play as commander because it seemed that as marines there's a bit of pickle of who should be the commander.
Anyone else find that Hydras and Sentries are basically useless for defense?
Anyone else find that Hydras and Sentries are basically useless for defense?
Both are alright for supporting defenders, Hydras not so much because they die too fast but they're cheaper than sentries and you don't need to rely on the Commander (but you probably need to rely on other Gorges building Hydras with you because only 3 of them aren't enough to dent a Marine's armor before he fills them with lead).
Hydras are a pain in the ass when you get stuck in clogs and try to kill the god damn gorge.. the combination of both will often kill you..
Sentries are excellent if your alone against skulks, they cant really overunn you so easily..
(sentries are still stupid to build tough, much more useful things to spend res on)
I think sentries are pretty nice for slowing an advance or stopping lone/small groups of skulks from sneaking behind your lines and breaking stuff. They more so give the enemy pause for thought than being a huge boon to your defense. Hydras I think are kind of the same and can be useful for eating up some of a marine's ammo if he's trying to sneak up and cause some trouble.
Sentries are good for stopping lone skulks, hydras are for room delay in the late game and area denial at the start.
I've been almost killed by a cluster of hydras before, 5hp before I managed to run off.
I had my first griefing experience today
I played as alien and the comm, most of the time, shot those spike things in front of me at every chance. I always somehow piss off the entire server, having them hate me for some reason.
I think it's time for me to stop playing.
A tip when placing sentries is to place them in a triangle, facing towards the sentry battery.
While looking through the steam workshop I think I've found the best mod out there for this game.

With my manly mustache I fear no alien.
I would also say that Hydra's are kind of hard to notice sometimes since
if someone places them very well ,alot of times I've been killed by perfectly placed hydra's since when you get hit by hydra's it doesn't have a loud attack noise compared to the Whip which is very loud so you'll be fine one minute and look at your health+armor and see it slowly being chopped away

Yeah, killed an escaping exo that way, though enemies started scanning every corner after that and I couldn't use them to their effect after that.

Which has the upside of slowing down the enemy and psychologically burdening them with the possibility of an unnoticed death around every corner.
Good god playing as a marine is fucking frustrating. I can never seem to kill a Skulk as fast as I get killed while playing one, compounded by the fact that I generally have pretty shit aim anyway.

your aim will improve the more you play. in only a week my aim has become MUCH better in this and other gayms
