It's intended to be that way. I don't know what's the reasoning behind it, but they are aware of it and want to keep it that way.
Another image of Descent

Yeah it is pretty decent
Isn't that a screenshot of Descent?
what they really need to do is rework the resource system, it's just too big of an advantage to aliens the way it is right now. aliens only need 3 rt's to be effective whereas marines need at least 4.
I think the idea is that marines typically have a stronger late game than the aliens.
Whereas each alien HAS to spend resources to keep himself in the game, A marine can still be very effective due to the free armour and damage upgrades.
A competent team of 2-3 exosuits can be backed up by MAC's and storm hive locations while the other marines head off and capture nodes.
it depends entirely on the team to be honest. and if aliens have 3 hives for onos eggs.
exo's can still be countered by gorges most of the time

Don't forget that aliens can buy eggs with tres too. Aliens in late game = tres onos egg every 3 minutes, assuming the commander actually knows what he's doing.
But yeah, due to the marine upgrades a single marine life is usually worth less than an alien one. Which is why marines need to be more aggressive, I think a big chunk of the balance problems currently come from marines playing too defensively. During beta people actually realized this and the marine team always had some people exclusively harassing RT's the entire game.

i am so sorry.
Gorgeous screenies. Courtesy of Destructoid.
Contents of patch contain Gorge Tunnels, Babblers, and Railgun. And new animations for fully-charged railgun death. Gorges etc. explode like a watermelon when you shoot them. Onos and Exosuits can move through Gorge Tunnels too.
Oh you can also control about 9 babblers at a time with a mechanic similar to the antlion bait in HL2. You can also get them to cover friendly teammates and be used as a "meat shield".

I wonder how are the tunnels going to work
Are they just going to teleport you inside the tunnel, or is the transition going to be seamless, like portal?
it's always going to be the same length so most likely a portal-type of thing
what are those new bot types i see in the screenie, the red ones
Looks to me like they are just part of the level as a static prop. The design of them makes it look like they are meant for high/low pressure environments. I would guess that they are repair droids that can function underwater or in space.
Yeah that looks like a maintenance bay for those bots, the one dangling in the air gives it off.
oh boy i can't wait until the gorgeous update completely drives my performance into the ground when it comes out

How did you manage that?
fade
[editline]23rd February 2013[/editline]
and by being good
"coming sometime february aka the last day of february"
Same thing happened with the october release date.
I hope for optimization, my performance isn't very friendly, but it gets a little better with every update.
Well it certainly won't make your frame rate any worse.
I hate playing on FRNS servers. Every time I play there everyone is speaking french and is refusing to speak english. Really cripples the communication with the rest.
i just avoid french servers overall
I hate playing on FRNS servers. Every time I play there everyone is speaking french and is refusing to speak english. Really cripples the communication with the rest.
how dare the french have their own servers
burn the french, ban france
I hate playing on FRNS servers. Every time I play there everyone is speaking french and is refusing to speak english. Really cripples the communication with the rest.
I know right, they should conform to a world language that isn't their own.
yeah or be like swe/ger servers where almost everyone speaks english
I went to france once
it was impossible to order pizza
Hoping that with this update and the latest AMD drivers, that NS2 won't crash my computer anymore. Always get a "file not found" in log but don't think they ever got a fix for it. A shame as its a brilliant game.
Oh, while I am here.
I'm having really bad performance issues. It does work out well, but I keep getting micro stuttering in fights which gives me a disadvantage, obviously. I remember playing this in the alpha, and it was much more stable performance wise for me atleast. It was good in Beta too, but then they released build 216 I believe? It was literally unplayable in that build, but after release and me deciding to pick it up again, it seems to have improved.
I've tried lowering all of my settings to lowest, without much of an FPS boost.
