Will this game be playable in the next couple of months? The frame-rate issues are still pretty bad, but apparently they were even more horrendous before.

I wonder what happens to the pilot to have to get into the thing. It doesn't look like there is much room for a body in there, so maybe they had to amputate or something? I mean, the crotch is too wide for the pilot's legs to fit inside the suit's legs, so he would have to be curled into a ball or something.

I could play ten minutes so far, joined right into an endgame match... And with the exosuit, lategame is finally not about Marines delaying the inevitable alien rape, but rather a two-ways rape festival. It's awesome.
I like how Exos aren't tanks, but just dish out a lot of damage. This makes more teamwork important because having marine "engineers" with welders guarding Exos increases their survivability by a ton. I actually chose to do that instead of buy a dual minigun exo even though i had the Res, and it actually helped us win the game.
I fucking loved their choice of making the exosuit a tactical tool of teamwork instead of a very personal upgrade on armor to make a couple marines crunchier like in the first game.
But i will miss that sexy clunky robot look of the first one, i didn't quite like the look of the new one..
I'm most happy about this patch not only for the exo, but the performance increases as well. I can actually run this game okay now.
I love the look of the Exosuit. It reminds me of a hybrid of a mechwarrior with a power loader.

I've managed to kill two exos in one life as a skulk. You just gotta dance around his feet and keep making him turn. Because of the cockpit, it is hard to see around when they get behind you. Also if you start to get hurt, be sure to get out of there. Find a gorge and heal up. Ambushing exos is also a lot easier than trying to dodge them down a corridor.
Skulks ain't got shit on my dual miniguns.

I had 5 men team exo rush supported by welders.
Although it is incredibly awesome and badass to be in a large group of exosuits and jetpackers with welders, grenade launchers, flamethrowers and shotguns backed by macs and arcs, fog lights blaring down the darkened rooms, I have been catching myself playing a lot more of the aliens. Maybe it is because a lot of the people stack marines, but probably because I like being that onos that takes those exosuits head-on (especially when they rush exosuits without getting any armor upgrades so they are very very soft.)
There is something to be said about smashing those itty baby robo-suits to bits with the fists of my monstrous being, striking fear into the lesser soldiers that could in no way survive a direct assault. And completely routing the enemy as I rip their comrades to shreds.
In other news I have begun to form an appreciation for the marine rifle. As long as you pick your shots carefully, shoot in small bursts, and don't spray like an idiot, it is a very good all-rounder with actually quite a bit of ammo.
Also, that new armor is completely badass. I wonder if there is a black armor flavor of that.
Has anyone got their extra copy yet? Does it appear in your Steam inventory just like any other game?
Not yet but I do believe it will be in your steam inventory when it is time.
If you guys are interested, I'll be holding a map test for NS2_Goliath sometime this weekend. If you see the server in the list, come on in. It will be something along the lines of "Goliath Map Test" or "Goliath Playtest". I guarantee you'll be blown away by what I have in the map. (Unless you've already seen it before.)

Just keep in mind that it is very unpolished and probably fairly unoptimized. Although I do have a basic layer of Occlusion Geometry covering the whole map, which will help performance exponentially, I haven't used every optimization trick in the book just yet, and probably won't get around to it until the map is near completion.
Balance is probably going to be a problem too, but that is exactly the reason I am having these map tests so early. It is so I can make it as fun as possible before investing too much time into details.

Also, just had an excellent and really close game on docking as marines, we lost, but our commander was Hugh Jeremy :D and he did a pretty awesome job until his game crashed.

The game looks solid, but it steel feels rough around the edges. Player animation and marine speed is what bugs me the most. It's not neccesarily too fast/slow, but it just feels... [I]off[/I]. Kinda robotic or something.

I was watching that live while I was mapping. It was a pretty crazy game. Although things appeared to get slightly frustrating later in the match. Especially when you guys lost locker rooms at that one spot. I also noticed Hugh started to get a bit spammy in marine comm ( I get like that too ) where I just keep saying "get to courtyard get to courtyard get to courtyard" until someone finally does.
As for the playtest, I missed the window in getting the map ready at the same time the server was, and my friend who was going to host it went to bed. So it appears as though it is going to have to be Sunday. I also got a hold of FMPONE (the guy who did Veil ) and he might be able to attend. Not to mention with the map finally working properly with steam workshop, anyone with access to the beta can join. Chances are the server won't have a password so if you see it in the lobby, join away! Just be sure to delete the old version of Goliath from your NS2 game folder if you had an older version as there appears to be mismatch problems if you don't.
Here are some screenshots of the work I did today. Comparing it with the one a couple posts above, you can see that it is a lot less open than it used to be. I still have a bit of a ways to go before the room will be how I like, but it is definitely shaping up.
