I just tried Namalsk for a few mins. Was a neat looking map, until I was TPed to a mountain top by a hacker then dropped in the middle of a town filled with a cacophony of bloodsucker sounds and footsteps. Never nope-quit so hard in my life.
4
Taviana is pretty cool. The long bridge connecting the two islands is a war zone, and you only spawn on the right island, never the left. So crossing by boat, foot, or swim is the only way.
Namalsk always has that survival feel due the low spawn rate of food and water. I remember the first time I've ever encountered mountain dew, I found an as50 at a crash sight, killed some dude then a hacker shot me. He then patched me up, gave me a ghillie and pretty much everything. I went to A2 to watch a battle go on due to the "lack of food". They didn't see me, I managed to pick them all off, and gather their food.

like that you could use every once in a while and were wiped if a player was out of the server for too long or something

Ever since a buddy of mine purchased his own server we've been getting attacked by hackers at least once a day, the amount of them increases as more players are on the server. I just hate it because when one asshole decides to pull shit like that it ends up emptying the server of all people aside from the regulars that play, then we have to wait for a few hours playing alone with a couple of people as we wait for people to trickle back in. It's a never ending cycle.
Playing on Namalsk for the first time today.
Spawn with weapons and equipment, cool.
Hear Predator like sounds around me, paranoid as hell
Suddenly screen blacks out, all sounds vanish except for heart beating
Screen returns to normal colors and sounds come back after a split second
scarequit
Is that supposed to happen?
ahahah oh wow I got on a private hive server and suddenly I see a hind shooting gau-8 30mm everywhere and i insta leave

When I'm playing namalsk, I'm playing on 159.253.149.26:3204.
I tried playing DayZ yesterday, and it was lagging like all holy fucking hell for no reason, horrible FPS stutter going down to 10 frames per second at times, even with view distance set to lowest (500?), and graphics preferences set to very low
It baffles me because in ArmA 2 and Operation Arrowhead, I run the game perfectly fine with max view distance, and on most graphics on High - a year after I started playing OA, and 3 years of playing Arma 2
I don't understand, does DayZ have some otherworldly supercomputer requirements over A2/OA that I never heard about? I'd very much love to actually be able to play the mod

i have found that ping seems to dictate FPS, as well as how long the particular server has been running
i have found that ping seems to dictate FPS, as well as how long the particular server has been running
When I played DayZ yesterday I tried on a French server which had around 46ms for me, which in ArmA 2 I usually play with my buddy from America which my ping goes up to 200ms at times.
I should probably go around to different servers and see if anything changes, thanks for the info
[editline]21st January 2013[/editline]
Alright what you said seems to actually be the case, joined and played on a Dutch server for a good hour, didn't have as much lag as on the one I tried yesterday.
Found some neat stuff, except for a weapon, followed the side of a road until I found the Dam outside Elektro? where I got killed by two asshole bandits that had been stalking me for the past 20 minutes I believe :v:

I'd like to know what server FP plays on too.
Right now I play on:
DayZNamalysk 209.222.90.82:2322
Call me a whiner but I am tried of this. Mainly of the players.
I know that bandits belong to the game but there should be a balance between bandits and friendlies.
I haven't killed or shot anybody in two weeks but got killed a billion times. 100% it was either behind my back or a sniper killing me with one shot. Right now I was minding my own business, stopped for a second to mark something on the map and got shot by a sniper. I have no idea who it was so there is no way to get revenge. I guess it was my fault for stopping in the middle of a village but there where no zombies and it was in the middle of nowhere so I was pretty sure there was no one near. I guess I should pay attention to my surroundings 100% of the time but you can't look around you all the time and pay attention for snipers. One will go mad.
Maybe I am taking this too seriously but when I get killed when I am unarmed by some twat with a m107 I just ask myself what kind of person he is. No other game made me so mad at others as dayz. Someone killed me in TF2? "Nice shot" Get killed in dayz after spending an entire day loot cycling for vehicle parts to repair a heli? "Fuck you I hope you die a painful death".
But then again it's my fault for playing alone.

im the other way round, i rage if i die in CSS/TF2/Call of duty/Battlefield 3 etc etc.
But it dayz if i die, no matter how good my gear is, i just brush it off and stat again

I wish I could do that too. But while it's not really hard to get starting gear again it still takes a lot of time. I was far north and had a cz550. I had to loot cycle a barn for 2 hours to get it. It's like playing pokemon with someone deleting your save.
And it's really hard to stay friendly. I only shoot people who I know are bandits on sight and normally ask if someone is friendly. I was overlooking NEAF when I saw a guy in a camo suit running. I could have easy killed him but I asked him if he was hostile and he said no so I spared him. Later when I was checking out crash sites with my little bird I got shot down while landing. Turned out it was him. I am just tired of the senseless killing. I understand that killing and looting someone is an easy way to get gear but why would you shoot random people when you already have the best gear. I was in cherno with no gear and asked around in side if someone needed blood. Some guy told me he could use some and asked me where I was. I told him my location and a minute later I heard an as50 shot and was dead. I wasn't really mad since I had nothing on me I was just puzzled. Guess some people just love being dicks.

Same I never really get mad at Dayz unless it is a hacker teleporting me to my death. But yet I tend to get mad at battlefield when that death means nothing in comparison.
So I went ontop of those large apartment blocks on Namalsk (A small town with loads of apartment blocks it seems) and now the ladder is bugged so I can't climb down again.
and I just found my ghillie suit...

Death was such a relief for our group when we were dominating and climbing up the survival ranking charts in early early DayZ. We were so obsessed with living that it became almost like a chore, if that makes any sense. We couldn't trust anyone and had to use insane safety standards for everything we did. We had to kill so many people just to do anything, we had to always be sure of what was around us, and we would log out so many times when we saw hackers doing their thang. It wasn't fun at all.
All I wanted to do was die, name myself "a homeless can collector" and run around Cherno yelling at people while throwing cans.
I see why people can get upset at this game, but I think they're looking at it wrong. Seriously 90% of the fun is starting from dirt, using your ability of having nothing to your advantage by gaining trust, and moving forward with that. Bonus points if you take on an entire new role when you die, one of my most memorable playthroughs was roleplaying as Jesse Ventura and finding some peeps who thought it was hilarious.
I tend to look at this game through the scope of an actual zombie apocalypse with myself at the protagonist. If I actually managed to survive as long as I do in DayZ, I would be pretty proud of myself.

Vorkuta is not a small town
It's the biggest true city on the map
Also try relogging
what a day
fixed a gaz
shoot people
people steal gaz
chase gaz
find bus
look for supplies
find pick up
find supplies
find old gaz 600m away from our mini convoy
shoot at people, they run away
hide vehicles
find invisible hacker who takes out stuff from backpack and dumps on floor while playing dear esther music

I always assume every other player as unfriendly, unless there's substantial evidence otherwise. You can't be out in the open like that though, I always hug buildings and stay in the forests when moving about to lessen the chance of me getting killed. Snipers are always a problem and they will shoot ANYTHING on sight, so as soon as you hear that DMR or M107 go off and miss you gotta find cover or run in an unpredictable pattern. Moving targets are difficult to hit even with an experienced sniper, a target that runs in an unpredictable pattern is even more difficult. However at the end of the day dying is a common thing in Dayz and there isn't a whole lot to prevent you from meeting your death, it's just best to respawn and move on. Best of luck to you mate.

I've decided that I'm going KoS unless I've decidedly been contacted by someone and/or vice versa and we decide to team up
Otherwise fuck everyone else
Also I lost my PKP due to glitching through a heli
