Just played the "bad guy" in DayZ for the first time and I have to say that was my best damn session ever, never have any of my sessions been so intense as this one.
I was playing on Taviana and I made my way to an airfield, I heard some guy shooting and looting the hangars so I kept my eye on him for awhile. I was initially going to try and be friendly but I just decided I wanted a battle and thoughts of my previous attempts at being friendly only resulted in my death made me come to that decision. He gets to the last hangar and I flank around to get a position on him, I notice he's aware of me because he starts acting a lot more cautious than he did previously so I tell him on mic "You've got the upper hand in this battle so let's just do this because chances are I'll die" and I wasn't lying. He had an M16A2 and I had a lee enfield so unless I got a direct shot he would kill me so easily even if he just sprayed, even quicker if he was a good shot.
Anyway he decided to disconnect in the hangar instead, so I just went into the fire station and came back to see if he returned. I saw him sitting in the corner next to the open part of the hangar so I rushed in and got a direct shot on his chest. I was pretty much at the "end game" at this point so I decided not to loot him, and that was a wise choice. I ran back to the fire station because I didn't properly check it last time and suddenly there's a spray of fire alongside it. I think he was aiming at the zombies because they started flocking in through the doors but I could hear the bullets flying everywhere. It was an M16A2 so I think he must have looted the other guy when I left.
I then decided to run to the other side of the fire station when he stopped firing so I could overlook the hangars and shortly after I made it he ran into the fire station, so of course I also ran in and there was a huge battle. Bullets flying everywhere but I managed to get a shot on him while he was reloading but he also got a few hits on me, only two I think. It may not seem like it, but that battle was so god damn intense. By the end of it I was only on 1k blood and he was dead, he started crying in side chat then left the server. Shortly after I died due to blood loss (didn't even know I was bleeding until I saw the blood count rapidly drain and by that time it was too late to do anything).
There's really not much excitement to be had when you're solo unless you play the bad guy or group up, I would love to group up with someone or a group of people and be friendly but I doubt that's ever going to happen. I'm fairly good in battle so I think I would be at least somewhat of an asset to any group or individual, if anyone is interested just add me on Steam I guess. Would prefer Taviana since it is huge and there's a lot of loot to be had but I don't mind going back to Chernarus.
why does everyone have to shoot
every time
we can't be friends because there is no such thing as friends when people always shoot!
evil circle. lots of bad guys, lots of people go defensive, lots of people try to kill someone if they got the upper hand to prevent them from killing them, lots of people become bad guys and so on
What do you guys feel about having a few crates spread evenly throughout a map that have varying loadouts? For example one crate would have vehicle parts and another might be packed with some food and maybe GPS or Binoculars. The gear would get progressively better as the area it's in gets harder to get to.
I made this video, which is a kind of compilation of good bits of footage I recorded while we played. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pr__cRH-xU8
[B]DayZ has left me with a lot of great memories. The adventures me and my friends had in this game are unrivaled by any other gaming experience I have had.
Playing DayZ in a group of friends really gives you a sense of comradery. Conquering our foes as a team, working together to ensure each others survival, and laughing at each others misfortune. At times it almost felt like I was there.
Overall DayZ has been an incredible experience for us and I made this video to remember all of the great times and to pay tribute to what, in my eyes, is one of the best games of all time.

cool vid :) reminds me of when me and my brother get together on dayz. last time we broke some lads legs with our hatchets, took his bus and left him there for the zombies.. so damn hilarious.
So me and Serafis spent 4 hours looking for each other.
In this time I went from the northwest airfield to meet him where he was heading to. Get there, turns out he was on the wrong server.
He moves to my server, spawns in Krutoy cap. Promptly he goes and kills himself as he doesnt want to run so far to find me.
Spawns at factory, goes north thinking that is near Zub, where we plan to meet. Turns out somehow it south of Zeleogorsk and he runs into there, getting himself killed.
Spawns in wilderness, turns out to be the place near Kamenka, which he runs the wrong way and goes out of the map. Turns around, and spends a while running. We finally meet up at the light house between Kamenka and Komarovo.
Now we head to the airfield to gear up. I end up having to kill someone as he was going for Serafis. We meet up again and loot the Balota airfield. Move down to the ocean, someone tries to shoot at us. While being chased by zombies we take a few shots at him. Eventually when he comes over the small hill right on the beach, i manage to break his legs and knock him out. We loot his body and get some ammo for my M249, an AK-74 for Serafis, as well as a G17.
Move on over to the medical tents and loot the dearstands. A couple of minutes later we hear "This is what you get for killing newbies". Quickly enough we are both shot by an invisible hacker... 4 hours looks for each other, 30 minutes actually being able to play together.
We had two guards and a sniper. But we were expecting newbies trying to hatchet us to death. Not a AS50 two blocks away.
It was funny because of the fact you wouldn't give up and were so persistant xD

yeah I like this. it would be better if you categorized it so that every crate has some sort of medical/food supplies

I did consider adding supplies like that into every crate but decided that having two crates with it would be enough, I still want to keep looting as the primary way to get supplies. I also have one crate for most common types of ammunition with extremely high tier ammo being left out, a vehicle parts crate, and the rest being filled with misc things and maybe a few weapons. These crates are all spread throughout the map.
Don't know how interested you guys are. But I started my own DayZ server. I got tired of asshat children camping everything all the fucking time with AS50's and having all my possessions stolen constantly on the uber 24/7 always full server I used to play.
I mean, I hope that stuff will still happen. Just not every time I spawn.

You start with absolutely nothing. Ultimately, at least for me this was actually really fun because finding something to defend yourself with wasn't as straight forward as equipping my hatchet. All vehicles are on the server, including a special one that is hidden. It's a 24/7 daytime server as well, so no bullshit darkness. The map is Taviana.
Weren't satchels unobtainable in the server? If so how come speck got blown up by one?
Weren't satchels unobtainable in the server? If so how come speck got blown up by one?
False.
Only obtainable via SUV spawns.
I vote for some of the "care packages" to be placed in the middle of airfield / cities in open places and have 5 or 6 mountain dew's in them. I wonder if people would fight over them.
Or alternatively, rocket launchers (not stingers)
Event starting up on CodeMonkey's server. Bridge is back under blockade and the second island is under quarantine.

Holy shit. What a crazy event. So we blockaded the bridge and quarantined the small island so no one could come and go. It was like, five/six of us at the bridge with all the stuff we collected, a UAZ we found laying there and a Vodnik we brought. I used wires and tank traps to block the entrance and started it over chat.
Basically we had no less than two C-130's, two M7's and a Huey suicide bomb our blockade. Only one of them killed anyone though but it was still insane trying to use the UAZ gun as an AA-Gun.
We had someone try to cross in a Ural and we shot out the tires and tried to get him to surrender but he glitched inside the truck. He eventually got free and instead of capture he jumped off the bridge to his death.
At one time someone bypassed us in a Osprey and we went to go get him in the UAZ. He was unarmed in a V35 or whatever so we asked him to surrender and he ran up to our UAZ, set a satchel charge and suicide bombed all of us.
The finale was when Speck surrendered to us and we captured him in a cage:
[t]http://i.cubeupload.com/5prAy8.png[/t]
We all danced around his cage playing Party in the USA and All Along The Watchtower to him.
That was when Milk decided to get an Osprey and circle, we tried to shoot him down but couldn't. Somehow Speck freed himself and with broken legs crawled into the SUV we had and drove it to the Southern Airfield. We all pursued in the Vodnik, with the Osprey strafing us as we tried to shoot it down.
Speck got to the fire station, found an AK74 (And morphine I think) but as we approached it the Osprey took a nose dive and tried to ram us, we barely backed away in time but it hit the fire station head on. Speck shot Mastercchaser out of the gunner and killed him, and he shot me out but I bandaged and ran inside where he was standing in the doorway. He shot me in the chest like eight times and I full-auto'd him with my M249 and we all died.
For prizes everyone got Golden Revolvers.
Speck got a Camo M24, Xcc2 got a L85 GL, Digi got an SPR. All unique items.
Milk gets something extra special but he left before I could give him anything, so he needs to let me know next time he is on so I can. If I forgot anyone, let me know.

How active is Code's server? Just started playing on it but I'm the only one.
It's a completely private server so our peak hours are like 3PM-9PM on weekdays.
Weekends we usually have a high peak all night long into the early morning.

which timezone is this, and would you mind converting it to UTC+8?
"DayZ" apparently went under the radar and appeared along with today's "big" additions and modifications to the Valve CDR like Halo 3 and stuff
which timezone is this, and would you mind converting it to UTC+8?
It's US EST and it's 24/7 daylight for now. May change to a three hour day and night cycle after I figure it out.
What has changed with Day Z since the standalone started development?
Im new to DayZ, could anyone of you give me some tips?
Don't trust anybody, not even your hatchet. You have to reload it first.
Im new to DayZ, could anyone of you give me some tips?
It's really useful, when approaching a city or settlement from far away, to take a moment and see if there are any zombies around in there
If there are, then there are players in the area.

and it has a surprisingly long range
What has changed with Day Z since the standalone started development?
DayZ Commander - It basically automatically updates DayZ to the latest version and lets you keep track, download and update all your maps and sub mods. You can also favorite servers, location specific ones with really specific criteria (like no 3rd person, time of day etc) and generally it's amazing. It's 3rd Party I think but go ahead and download that.
New maps. I -don't- think they're officially supported but maps like Taviana, Namalsk, Panderia(?), Fallujah, Lingor, Takistan and most recently Isle Dula to name a few are now playable with DayZ and with DayZ Commander it's mind numbingly easy to find and connect to them.
That's it though, Nothing game changing as of late with the mod it's self.

I knew of Day Z commander before the standalone went officially out (I think I stopped playing when clothes were put back in and zombies were fixed to react to gunfire). It was (and should still be) fantastic, at least compared to six updater (ew).
But thanks about the new maps, I will have to check them out at some point.
