Technically, the DayZ mod was the Alpha portion for the game.
WarZ just got out of Alpha, so the general comparisons were justified.
DayZ was a proof of concept mod that got really popular for some reason.
It was just supposed to be an arma mission with percistency.

All that dayz is, is a mission with a database. The real alpha release comes around december, read it up.

And if people have a hard time to compare a mission (not even a mod when you look at it) for arma 2 with a whole game that is in alpha and developed by a studio and at the same time so horrible in it's current state, then there is definitly something wrong with people.
My only concern is that Chernarus + doesn't sound really reassuring
I'm tired of it, I know the whole map perfectly, I hope it's really going to look new
So I watched the eurogamer interview with rocket again as a remember this is what will be dayz standalone at start:

-No flashy UI, watch for cues...

-Apparently the arma 3 modeller ports over some models
-More complex damage model (dependant where you get hit by zombies or bullets / melee weapons including gear getting damaged)
-Complete inventory system of arma 2 gets deleted and haves been made from scratch up, there will be no resemblance.
-Weapons will be actual objects (weapons can jam, durability, change look)
-Focus on tension, pvp will be handled by making players dependant on more teamwork
-Vomiting motion capture ingame
-Support for deaf persons
-Player spread sickness (lots of players around cherno for example might spread a disease there)
-"Bad" food and ofcourse dont step into the poop (I think he means these corpse piles with flys on them, they could make you sick if you accidently step into one)
-New towns, facilities, balancing of water foundations
-Many, many new enterable buildings
-Chernarus+(plus) IS done
-New melee, items, objects done
-Customization
-Create vehicles with parts through player construction
[B]Aim for release but not the first priority since till beta it's going to be optimized but still very important:[/B]
-Household weapons "Bow, arrows, authentic stuff"
-"Craft" equipment (splints etc)
-Sound effects
-Animations (leg fractured? you will lump. Need medical assistance to your broken rips? Stefan mocaps that shit for you and makes it as immersive as possible like the puking animation)

-Bugs and hacking (fixes ofcourse) + stable build = ALPHA RELEASE
-Cheap at start

The means to create the experience are irrelevant, it is logical to compare the dayz mod and the warz game because they both aim to produce a similar experience.
The fact that the dayz mod is a 1 man project which basically adds a mission with a database, and the warz is a studio produced game does not effect what people get.
What people care about is the play itself. Is it fun? Is it glitchy? Is it laggy? Are there hackers?
Nobody cares what is going on behind the scenes and nor should they. People who think there is something wrong with people who just care about the gameplay experience have something wrong with them themselves.

Because it takes months if not a year to make a detailed map by yourself, if they made a new terrain they would need to get lots of people involved and it would cost them alot. Thus see how it sells in alpha then go for more ambitious projects such as a new landscape.

new towns, cities, changed positions of current towns/cities.
With the majority of the buildings in cities being enterable, that will change the flow of the game, it will now be a more viable option to try country towns for loot/survival instead of rushing cherno or elektro

Namalsk was made for a STALKER themed mod. I don't know if they are still working on it.

I have played the Arma2 campaign and it was OK - I found fucking around in the Armory was more fun though.
