so do we still use uspvt? or another server? do we have the same hive?
KAMIKAZEEEEEEEEE
I have somewhat of an urge to play Day Z again, but I still want to wait for the standalone.. Why did I delete ARMA. Shit
Download it overnight and give it a spin
I kinda wanna try that post apocalyptic mod. But on the other hand I doubt the maps got better and I don't feel like running around for 3 hours only to get sniped.

DayZ 2017 is so good. Much better than normal DayZ.
We should use the disappointment from War Z to make more people play this instead
We should use the disappointment from War Z to make more people play this instead
It got pulled from steam with full refunds, ahaha
DayZ standalone will aid everyone who lusts for the perfect and most harsh zombie apocalypse game. [editline]19th December 2012[/editline] When it comes out I will write a small guide for you guys so you get the most immersive experience from the arma (type of) engine that's possible. Perfect setup headbob, aim deadzone (really important for highly increased game feel) FOV (without that nothing works as intended) and the right sensitivity so all the sluggish feeling will be gone. [editline]19th December 2012[/editline] It's also funny how people hated on the arma engine for beeing stupid control wise. Most people never realized that you have a single key bind (that you can change ofcourse) to change between primary gun and secondary and you can pick things up with an single click, you dont even need the mouse wheel most of the time which bothered alot of people.
I really hope the standalone at least improves on ARMA II's strange movement system. In a strange way though, I hope it doesn't as well - there's a certain charm behind it.
I really hope the standalone at least improves on ARMA II's strange movement system. In a strange way though, I hope it doesn't as well - there's a certain charm behind it.
Arma manages to make you feel like you are a body and not just some viewmodel here and normal model there. The way arma handles it (if you set your damn sensitivity fov and aim deadzone right) is that you aren't supposed to be so quick to respond to every key you press, think about it what makes you actually feel immersed? Pressing w instantly accelerates you forward or like it is in arma it haves a small transition then it accelerates. Yes rocket said they make the movement more responsive and quicker so don't worry. I play all kinds of FPS and if you actually take your time to tweak your arma settings it aint strange anymore, it's all natural and you actually need to forget guidelines about other modern military shooters because arma is an simulation not just an shooter pew pew. [editline]19th December 2012[/editline] I also need to mention that almost all arma 2 OA videos online / dayz videos on youtube havent got even close to the settings that I mean. Most videos are played dull and stiff with an stupid fov and guns that stick to the screen like stupid.

An good example is my brother, I bought the game for him after he seen it here on my PC. Actually he was not satisfied with how the game felt for him while when he was here it was amazingly immersive. I guided him step by step from sharp filter fxaa to fov, headbob, sensitivity y x, aiming deadzone and boom his arma fun exploded through the roof. [editline]19th December 2012[/editline]
I think what truly bothers me is how you have to stop running to switch weapons.
Yes that is an funny issue :v: it's easily possible to change that tho, as far as I remember there were some movement mods for arma which allowed such things. Atleast we have reload while sprint :v:
For those who don't know, the DayZ 2017 mod came out. http://opendayz.net/index.php?threads/v1-0-client-release-thread.6730/ How to install (Includes DayZ Commander Instructions): http://opendayz.net/index.php?threads/dayz-2017-installation-instructions.6750/
"Open DayZ Community - Error Your IP address has been banned." um ive never been to this site?
Made some zombie type of video with a bit of story behind it. "This is Marek, his mind and all that he remembers while he's trying to survive this unexplained lonely mess. Each hour he regains thought of certain events he witnessed. All he really remembers right now is his name and his fear." Started out as an test but I might make an series / episodic kind of thing out of it.
We should use the disappointment from War Z to make more people play this instead
I planned on playing this even if War Z succeeded, I'm just waiting for the standalone though.
I hope they implement jumping into the standalone somehow someway. It's my favorite things to do in these types of games. Just jumping on the road, in the forest, maybe off a building. The possibilities!
I hope Arma II goes on sale tomorrow, I really regret not buying it during the summer sale.

Would be nice to have a faster vault though for when you're running away.
We should use the disappointment from War Z to make more people play this instead
I'd love to but I just can't stand the clunkiness of what is the arma2 engine and the whole inventory system. I've tried to put up with it but I ended up just quitting because of it being so annoying. I'm planning to get the standalone but the wait is painful.
I'd try Day Z, but most of what I hear about it is how hardcore it is, and how horrid the engine is. I mean, honestly, Dark Souls is about as hardcore and unforgiving I can possibly get, and if the stories in this thread are to be believed, Dark Souls is piss simple compared to Day Z.

Would be nice to have a faster vault though for when you're running away.
The jump-vault in most arma 2 mods (namely I44 and the ones we use on the FP server) would work great for the dayZ vault. It's a jump but it acts like a vault and doesn't kill your immersion when you do it, since it only happens when you're sprinting or running. Dying is the fun part!
Dying is the fun part!
you can't be talking about dayz...
you can't be talking about dayz...
well, when you have all your gear set up what's left to do but kill? working up the gear ladder is the fun part.
I remember when I raided the airfield where two new players were held up, who were simultaneously getting raided by another guy. The raider and one of the two noobs were in the hangar, I came in and shot both, then the guy's friend drove up in a pickup, blew his horn to signal his buddy out, so I shot the guy, took all their shit, drove until I found a boat, took the boat, crashed it in the water, died to a swarm of zombies. Also, I've not seen anyone talk about this and I don't know why, but I really hope they redo the zombie sounds at some point. I mean the mod is meant to be brutal and cruel, but hearing those nails-on-chalkboard looped screams from the same shitheads who chase you for miles on end drives you insane.
There's no doubt that the game is horribly horribly unforgiving, however, It's fun in the Dwarf Fortress sense. Dying is the fun part!
Have to kinda disagree on that part. On dorf, there ain't any zombies smacking you through walls, or any hackers killing you. Was about to say also no doors that would kill you, but that would just be untrue. There might be zombies smacking you on dorf to actually.
Dying is the fun part!
Not when somebody spawns in on top of you and proceeds empty a Winchester into your supple face. Happened to me the other day, it was shit.
Dying is the not-fun part for me.
Had a fun run today. Started out in the middle of the night a bit away from Balota Airfield, sneakily made my way towards the hangars, hoping I could get into the tower for some loot. Halfway there a stray zombie notices me because I wasn't paying attention, and I figure "fuck it, I'll just leg it to the door and sneak away from there". I run around the fence, and notice the zombies stopped following me. I also have no idea where they went. Sneakily I climb the stairs of the tower, not finding any goods at all. Decided to chill out on top of the roof for a bit, wait for someone to come by. About 5 minutes pass, a guy comes rushing by dragging with him every zombie in the area. Glad it's not me, I decide to climb down and light the way a bit for him. I get the the edge of the roof and almost get my head blown off by someone with an AK. I start capsing into the area chat for him to cease fire, and he does! I climb down and he wonders if I have bloodbags. I don't, but I give him some bandaids for his bleeding and some painkillers for his shaking. We head off looting the hangars, me lighting the path and him shooting any incoming zeds. All is well, we raid the hangars and the tents in the nearby military camp. I get an M1014. My friend dies, but I sit in one of the hunting towers waiting for him to come back. He does, and we head for Cherno. There we sneak around the entire town, finding food and supplies. I find an AK of my own. We call it a day and add eachother on Skype for future adventures.
