Me and two others were having a good time camping elektro, racking up probably a combined 25 kills within the span of about an hour, then all of a sudden we got systematically banned for reason "hackbox item/use."
Granted we found our guns in a crashed heli landing (actual, not loot table) so they probably were, but why didn't we get banned sooner then?

You shot the admin
I seriously hope rocket did enjoy his holidays. I don't want him to burn out on the high demand of dayz, I know he's been working daily since he announced it. But I think he rather chooses beeing a co-worker or fiddler on a mod/game than the lead and head of it.
[editline]30th December 2012[/editline]
It's gone so far that he stopped using twitter mostly. Before november he used it almost daily tweeting about everyday stuff and now every tweet is filled with "WHEN DAYZ ROCKET ANSWER PLS" which made him think about this whole situation, he really dislikes how it overtakes everything in his life. I think not even his army training can help him handle this right now.

What? How is that relevant?
What? How is that relevant?
Well you learn to handle stress situations and be generally more aware of everything?
Huge clans like that just piss me off, I mean, honestly, how is that fair (apparently you showed them how fair that is but that's not the point)
I had a group going with ten people at one point, driving around in a ural and shooting everything.
It was fun as fuck, we even drove into Cherno and got into a huge fire fight over the truck. Easily one of the best times I've had in DayZ

Rocket please don't end up like KC Green.
Rocket please don't end up like KC Green.
Oh man, DayZ gradually turning into a journey into Rocket's demented, overstressed mind through hidden updates...
So I was playing with my friend on a custom hive server, when from one day to the other both our vehicles turned into unaccessible wrecks for some reason. Vehicles around the are too, anyways, I don't know about the rest of the map. All the nice loot, gone.
What happened anyway? Was that a hacker, or is it something else?
Installed Arma II and Arma II OA
Couldn't get shit to work
Deleted and uninstalled everything related to Arma II and Arma II OA
Started installation again
Why do the best games always give me such shit?

Did you use DayZ Commander? Helped me a lot.
Did you use DayZ Commander? Helped me a lot.
Had it, and all the servers it could detect were unresponsive.
And attempting to join servers through the in-game browser would give me Battleye issues.
Might be a router issue, but it's never given me shit before and I'm weary of screwing around with the settings.

part 2 is better lmfao
More land vehicles and less guns/helicopters would make the DayZ experience a lot more unique. Destroyed stuff should respawn in random locations and the game should in general be self-serving, regular restarting is kind of lame especially when you're inventory juggling after raiding a camp that you and your friends fought tooth and nail for the past twenty minutes over in a tense 6v8 situation at long range with a far more well-equipped enemy.
The military equipment is what kills it for me. Military tech is what sort of ruins the "scare" factor in that it turns scavenging for survival equipment either moot or extremely short; a waste of time. Take for example my experience today on Namalsk: I spawned near the northern docks and looked inside a tiny watch tower which had an ak74 and a single mag for it. Upon inspecting the docks, I killed three players with that SINGLE magazine. Instead of going through the hardship of finding equipment and a weapon like a lee enfield, I jumped straight into being pvp capable on very good footing. While Namalsk has a metric dickload of military spawn, the idea still holds true for any dayz map I've played whether it be Chernarus, Zargabad, Panthera or Namalsk.
tl;dr when I think of a zombie apocalypse, I imagine fights being fought over things like gas with the tears of survivors who bent over backwards to find hunting rifles rather than the full blown LMG totting Sam-Fisher-meets-Captain-Macmillans who do it for shits and giggles.
Story time?
Story time.
So today I joined TheLaughingMan's server as usual, fucking around, spawned at Prigorodki, walked up to Mogilevka and picked up a Double-Barreled Shotgun at a farm with a good chunk of ammo and headed west to Zub Castle where I then picked up a fucking Mountain Dew and other assorted food stuffs. I went over to Vyshnoye where I had spotted an SUV hidden in a barn. Clever enough, right infront of the driver's door was a bear trap that I had almost walked into by an inch. I said in side chat that I had found an SUV with a bear trap next to it that I had almost walked into, and a man by the name of Vulcan replied, "I had found that earlier, I walked past it because it had a broken wheel and at the time I didn't have a toolbox." I headed up north to the Deer Stand at Pop Ivan, in which there was jackshit. Vulcan had said in side that "whoever had found the SUV, I'll mark down a crashed helicopter nearby you." There was a plain marker with nothing written on it about 1000 meters due south-east of Pop Ivan, so I began to head there. When I got there, about 10 zeds had spawned, and with the help of my shitty, but Ol' Reliable Double-Barreled Shotgun, I killed them all (with one slug left, mind you) and claimed my reward. Much good loot was there, but I could only take so much. There were 2 cans of Mountain Dew, an M14 AIM with 3 magazines, a M249 SAW with 4 Box Mags, and an FN FAL with 4 mags. I chose the M14 AIM because that was the only one I have never used before, and it's supposed to be really good. As I was finishing up with looting, Vulcan says various things such as "are you friendly" and "are you a bandit" to which I respond with yes and yes. Then Vulcan says "I'm right behind you." From that moment on, a beautiful relationship was formed. He said to head back to the SUV, in which I followed him. I tested out my newly acquired M14 AIM on zeds in the town as they pretty much swarmed us, but because Vulcan has an M249 SAW (Different from the crashed heli), we pretty much wrecked the zed horde e-z. As we were fucking around, something happened.
PLOT TWIST!
A hacker gave everyone AS50 TWSs, MPSDs, Coyote Packs, Camo and Ghillie Suits, and various medical and food supplies. The AS50s were taken away for reasons unknown, maybe because AS50s aren't allowed on TheLaughingMan's servers, along with DMRs and M107s, but back to the point. Obviously, everyone in the server was pissed, me and Vulcan included, but what seperated us from the rest was that we were smart. At the same time we both thought "Heli Crash Site". We both ran back to the crash site, I took the FN FAL and Vulcan took the M249 SAW. We both changed into the ill-gotten ghillie suits, and both logged off in tress about 300 meters away from the crash site
TL;DR It was a fun experience, read it anyway

Sorry about the wall of text
Sounds like a day in the life of a survivor to me.

pretty much this
there definitely needs to be a larger variety of low-tier common weapons, and military weapons need to spawn waaay less
AK47 for everyone!
A car key system would be nice. I mean, having a good hiding spot as the only safety manner has a charm, but It's really a bummer how easy it is to get your car stolen, with all your hard gotten gear inside of it, and obviously the malice of collecting parts and so on.

on the flip side though, it's satisfying as fuck to sneak away in someone else's car

But It'd be even more so if you would steel his keys from his tent or backpack.

What I did when it stopped working for me was get that Six Updater. It installs it for you, so you don't have to use it's inbuilt server browser which is good because it never worked for me.
It's waaaaay to easy to get hacks for DayZ. Would it be hard to download the hacks, analize and block those kinds of scripts for the Dev?

But its how Arma2 works. Its not hacking at all its just client commands. Sandbox mode basically.
Standalone will fix this
