I just had the best freaking session ever.
So I was playing with my friend, Gecko, on a custom hive. We were at the Sobors, and then decided to drive to the airfield for some loot, since we had a UAZ. As we came there, I was amazed because we found a chopper, and wanted to repair it since I'm really good at flying those. While I was collecting the chopper parts and fueling the car, Gecko was going through the hangars looking for loot. And being the diehard he is, he started to shoot zombies all over the place. Needless to say, he got wounded. I tried to save him, but he died before I could drive over to him from the other side of the airport. Then I lagged out.
After a couple of minutes I came back, took the gear of his body, and made my way to the UAZ which stood in the middle of the field, more or less 150 meters from his body. As I was going there, somebody suddenly fired a few bursts at me, and I fell on the ground, heavily wounded, bleeding, almost dieing basically. I noticed that I'm not quitblocked, and quickly aborted the mission. After a few moments of sadness over the loss of a UAZ with incredible gear (various very rare weapons, meat, ammo) i came back to see if I can get my revenge on the guy. Quickly i bandaged myself, and sneaked away from the airfield, in fear of being shot again.
After i was at save distance, I typed "Have fun with my UAZ :("
And somebody responded "You had a lot of good gear, it was worth it"
I replied that, Oh well, that's what the game is about after all. No hard feelings, and have fun :)
And a conversation started. We talked about a few things, mainly DayZ, and then they, because there were two of them, co-opers most likely, Foxxorr and Voosai, suggested that they'll return my UAZ, since they're repairing the plane, and want it, not my car. I ignored it at first, and continued talking with them casually, fearing that it was a trap. I was hunting, to get my health back up and my hunger down, the icon was red by now. After a few minutes of not finding animals, I've decided that I've got only two options - trust those strangers or die. I decided for the former.
So, I said "I expect you to take my stuff, no hard feelings on that one, but could you leave me a chunk of meat or two?"
They on the other hand replies, that they only took one weapon, and will leave the rest. At this point I really thought I was running into a trap, but well, I had no choice. I told them that I'm coming, with a weapon drawn, but promised not to shoot. They did the same.
As I walked over, they drove in my direction with formerly my UAZ. We stopped more or less in the middle of the airfield. One of them gave me a freaking blood transfusion. They asked me if they can borrow the UAZ to fuel the plane for a couple of minutes more, and I obviously agreed, both out of friendliness and because I knew they had me by the balls, and disagreeing could result in my death. So, me and Foxxorr (iirc) stand around there and talk about ourselves, I give them tips about the plane and so on. Afterwards he asked me if I need something else. I asked for a bit of food. He have me 4 chunks of meat, since the UAZ was currently occupied by VooSai fueling the plane. After moment of talking, I asked for excuse, because I had to cook the meat already, so I wouldn't starve.
I quickly made my way to a nearby tree, which DayZ counted as a forest, it was still inside the airport walls. I cooked and ate the meat. They've told me to meet up by the plane, so that's where I went.
I got into the car, and we told our goodbye's. I waited there in the car for a moment more, to see the glorious plane drive along the airfield. Unfortunately, I didn't see it taking of since they had to make a turn, and I was driving away by then.
So remember, if you ever meet a player by the name of FOXXORR or VooSai - They are total bros.
tl;dr: Guy shot me, I almost died, stole my UAZ with loads of very rare shit. I quit. Came back later, the guy turned out to be a co-oper. They fed me, healed me, gave me my UAZ back, gave all my stuff back, were generally total bros and flew off with a plane.
I just found 4 camping tents in the same Supermarket, and then a 5th unused one in a nearby building, and a 6th deployed (and empty) 4 feet away from a fire station.
Aren't they supposed to be rare.

Decided to get Arma 2 installed again, could anyone give me a quick run down of how to install Namalsk please?
Decided to get Arma 2 installed again, could anyone give me a quick run down of how to install Namalsk please?
Use DayZ Commander.
Tutorial by latin_geek:
If you mean Namalsk or something:
step 1: download DayZ Commander
step 2: install it
step 3: update your mod, configure options, update and download custom maps, etc
I really can't recommend DayZ Commander enough, specially now that it has custom map support for all the popular maps. Did I mention it has a repository of versions, so you can download whichever your favorite server uses?

It is the thing to use if you don't use a lot of other mods, in which case I guess the better idea is the slow as shit Six Updater/Launcher
Rocket is actually quiet because of the warZ bullshit, they took/used alot of ideas and ways that rocket did want to go (example foundation build, it was a direct ripoff idea) and many suggestions and company ways rocket did announce. The result of that bullshit that sergey and his team made led up to rocket shutting his mouth till his product is ready (DayZ standalone)
I dunno but Sergey managed to make Rockets business life quite harder since many people think rocket is behind this since war z and day z seem like the same thing to many people new to this whole drama sergey created.
[editline]6th January 2013[/editline]
I bet we would have tons of new screenshots from progress but that would give Sergey and his team ideas or the chance to copy them and mark these ideas as their own.

Speaking of which
Still haven't seen a set of NVGs anywhere or on anyone
Well the mod was still amazing aslong as rocket did support it fully, now it's getting community driven which worsened it since there is no dude with a crown on his head who says in which direction its going so everyones experience of the mod is different.
I played since the start (april) and I can safely say april to july were the best months for the mod, people spread the word so loud and much (since it was freaking awesome in everyway) and many people did not really experience what this mod was about since it lost all that after rocket gone silent and hundreds of thousands of players caused problems forth and back.

The mod shows so much potential, but if the standalone is just a shiny version of what currently is I don't think it'll last long. When I play it's just a frustrating deathmatch.
This is what makes DayZ for me at the moment, but it's something I Youtube rather than wait 3 months on the off chance I might experience a moment like this.

To be honest I jumped back in on dayz and havent been killed by a "bandit" in 2 months, every single person I met on uspvt and johnny's servers (sometimes ive been on public ones) have been friendly.
It's the way you play, if you play openly and probably to fast people might have to decide wether you are friendly or not but if you play in the way that you always saw these people first you won't ever get killed since you gain trust quickly that way, it's no magic.
[editline]6th January 2013[/editline]
The thing is:
Avoid beeing seen first, and if there is a true playerkiller on the loose with his sniper avoid beeing hit by beeing carefuly in the first place.
See every other player first and make unspoken signals by either going to them or avoiding them (dependant on the weapons they carry and their approaching style)
It's pretty easy if you picture this situation:
You go into a barn and suddenly another dude pops up at the front door crouch walking into it and seeing you, you should run the hell out and quickly use direct chat to say "im friendly bla blab la" instead of staying inside the barn and making him decide if you are trustworthy or not.
It's pointless to write so much like I did because I can't really change your experience but it really matters how you approach things in every way.
I've been actually playing on a pretty cool server recently, a bunch of people talk on it and use the global chat and are all mostly friendly
I haven't honestly seen anyone yet, but it's funny to watch some guy accidentally kill another then offer to give his respawn a ride back to his corpse in chat

I play on Australian servers so maybe the cultures different here, everyones all Mad Max Road Warrior here. Rape and Pillage it seems. I've done as you've said in the past, be smart about how I approach people and when they agree to "team up" it's been only a matter of time before I get a knife in my back for my gear. I'll admit to one occasion which was super sweet was this time I met up with this guy and his wife playing, they took me under their wing and gave me gear. I then helped them get fuel for a helicopter they found. They gave me the chopper and fucked off into the woods. Other than that, every other encounter with a human being in this game has left me feeling violated.
I've become kind of an outsider to the DayZ community.
When is standalone coming out?
I've become kind of an outsider to the DayZ community.

2000 and never.
Honestly, it's one of those "when it's done" kinda things. And honestly I believe it'll be _atleast_ another 2 months. You can't pull a well designed/great game out of your arse in 30 days, regardless how many pre-exsisting assets and engine technology you have. You got testing, ideas/concepts to mess with and then final polishing. Be awhile I bet.
Its exactly 5 months in developement now.
I need to quote this:
A full-time map designer has also started work on ChernarusPlus now, redeveloping the world, placing new assets and buildings, fixing bugs, and creating new areas. This is in addition to the work done by Ivan and Maxell and will continue for the remainder of DayZ development.
This guy is now working for 2 months on the already finished chernarus overhaul chernarus+ I can build cities and scenarios in about 3 hours in the arma editor, what is this guy that probably is a pro at the editor and engine do in this timeline as full paid team member?
[editline]6th January 2013[/editline]
Actually one of the guys that was a moderator in the dayzforums got an full time paid job in the dayzdev team now. I guess its that matt guy that finished the customizable clothing system, he's constantly adding new headgear bodygear and pants etc.
[editline]6th January 2013[/editline]
And I still wonder who made the double barrel shotgun and the crossbow I guess that dude got a job at the dayzdev team too now.
What I mean:
We have some outstanding former community members working on the project as paid members of the team. I hope to showcase their work and interview them on here for you, in the coming weeks and months. We are actively searching for more to bring them onto the team.
I always forget how much they actually already acomplished and then I turn to his posts and dev reports and always see new things.
[editline]6th January 2013[/editline]
And a quote that's hinting at new shaders/graphics maybe new lightning or new models (well it's been said that he might implement new shaders and it's been said that there will be some arma 3 models)
While the graphics may look the same (for now)
I don't know but im hyped since months for standalone and the hype never dies down.

First couple of months seemed like a lot of talking and public relations stuff to me. Rocket was flying all over the world touring conventions and talking shit to tosser journalists. I think the first two months alone was a lot of talking between them and Valve/STEAM to get the rights to use that platform to release and utilize their technologies, which incurs lots of legal/financial mumbo jumbo which is never simple.
I don't know this for sure but a feeling I get from all the progress I've read on their official outlets gives me the inkling that solid "development" has only began since the start of December. What I mean by solid, is going from pre-production into production.
EDIT: Can you link me to the customisable gear/matt guy? Want to check it out, can't find on google.

I would imagine that it also includes creating all new buildings that can be entered, which I am guessing that you do not do as a hobby editor.
I also imagine that they are of much higher quality, no offense.

Plus the screenshots they released last year showed some clean boring interiors. We need some interiors that show trauma, rubble, death and decay.

At the start of september they already got alot of little things done aswell as steam contact. They started working on the engine itself at september, rocket was still more open to publicity there but the other 4-5 guys were working. Rocket himself never stopped working on it, he stopped with the publicity around start of november.

Also matt lightfoot or something hes called on the forums. He did write it as an twitter/dayzforum post.

Rocket said that they will be made fit for the apocalypse, these indoors screens were actually only real good looking in progress screens.
[editline]6th January 2013[/editline]
Actually just read this and you guys will be enlighted about the clean new houses:
One caveat I forgot last time, the interiors do look very clean. Adding gore or deterioration can quickly be overdone, so we feel our first task is to create the interiors and ensure we are happy with the gameplay and quality of the basic texture work - then we will go through to add elements more authentic to the situation. Overall, we believe the experience should have a style more akin to “The Road” rather than gore for gore’s sake. When you find gore in DayZ, it will mean something and have impact. In fact, it will be most likely due to tragedy or betrayal involving a human player. This way, we believe what happens in the world matters, instead of simply adding some crashed buses and blood everywhere.
I haven't visited the thread since shortly after chernarus banned me for 'teleporting', to date the only server i've been banned from. Does FP still have a common server we use or one of our own?
What's the best map to play DayZ on?
Why do I get the feeling that DayZ will turn into the DarkRP of ArmA 2 because of the server are so fucking modded that it's bullshit.

Because of stuff like that I tend to play the game like a foreign correspondent than actually "play now". Like a spectator who just watches what goes on but unfortunately cops a few bullets from time to time.
Spent over an hour on Taviana searching for loot and finding an AK-74 with around 5 magazines, a makarov with around 6 mags and a CZ backpack that I stocked with loads of bandages, painkillers, food, and water.
I saw a player running down the road with zombies chasing him so I told him to stop in chat and come back and that I would help him. He of course didn't listen so I said fuck it and stopped following him.
I hung around the place I spotted him when suddenly two cars come in guns blazing from the direction he came and blew my ass away,
and just earlier I had a friend asking me why I didn't play DayZ more...

it's all about a matter of perspective and hindsight. you shouldn't have stayed in the same place for so long - always be on the move.
And in my opinion, the way you worded it, it sounded awesome to be honest. It's better than getting killed by a hacker who's teleporting and shooting you behind your back; that shit is making me frustrated.
