I wish I had people to play against. The only friends who play the game either live a few hours away, or don't visit too often as both schedules don't quite intertwine. I've decided I need more card sheets though. I organized my collection and was only able to get all my blue and green cards into sleeves. Everything else has to chill for a while. My collection is so random, I don't know what to do with it, I have cards from all over the place.
I went to a Friday night magic and played a few rounds, lost every one :(
Got some cool cards though, liquimetal coating, darksteel myr and semblance forge.
I'm going to be making an artifact deck now, with loads of artifact killing (liquimetal coating turns a target into an artifact until the end of turn, so I can basically destroy anything.)
Going to the New Phyrexia pre-release today. Should be fun.
Hoping for Puresteel Paladins.

I regret spending all my money on munchies over the course of the week, or I would definitely be going.
Haven't been to a single pre-release yet. :(

I have dropped a Sword of War and Peace
So the pre-release went pretty great.
Pulled an Elesh Norn first pack, Sheoldred second pack.
Basically ran B/W control with artifacts. Ended up going 1-3. I should've run mana myr. The pre-constructed decks for New Phyrexia are fun to run against eachother.
How did everyone else's go?

<- jealous.
How do pre-releases work? There is some kind of shop near me that accoriding to the MTG website does magic related stuff on the weekends, though I couldn't make sense of the termenology. And I'm pretty sure it was mostly tourny related stuff (which I'm not interested as my decks are all over the place in sets and I'm not interested in winning no matter the cost ASAP).
You go in, pay the entrance fee and wait for it to start. For mine, we got 6 booster packs (three new phyrexia and three scars of mirrodin). You then open the packs and make a 40-card-minimum deck out of only the cards you get in the boosters. There are free basic lands.
Can't wait to play my friends tomorrow, my deck revolves around this combo:

The basic idea is get liquimetal and viridian revel on the field, and whenever I destroy a permanent I turn it into an artifact for a free draw, or I just use the large number of artifact destroying cards I have (shatters mainly) to annihilate basically anything I want for 2 mana (including lands), while the forge lets me exile one of my myrs or something to get uber cheap creatures and artifacts, so I basically draw frigtons of cards and annihilate the enemies at the same time. Finally, I have a hoardsmelter dragon in there as well which lets me destroy anything on the entire field for 4 mana as long as I have liquimetal up, and then the dragon gains the mana cost of what just blew up in his attack stat.
I still havent had a chance to play it though, itching to play against my friend who has a load of living weapons.
I'm kinda doing the same thing, but with
and landshapers.
I got a 13/13 black card, and two blacksteel artifacts. I like the Myr and the black dudes from the weird hades-like place, as well as a shitload of Kami.

BTW, if there's any way of playing online, could someone teach me?
I've heard of something called Magic the gathering online but I don't know how it works or what it is exactly.
My Prism deck needs tweaking, I ironically end up with too much mana and not enough cards. I have about 5-6 cards from every color, 10 more powerful multicolor cards and 23 or so being mana (not including my mana accelerating cards like Gemhide sliver and Darksteel Ingot).
Part of the problem is my colors are not focused enough either. I'm in love with the "free" creatures I have for blue like Pereguine Drake, which is a 3/2 flyer that costs 5 but when in play you untap all your mana you spent to cast it. But I don't have enough draw card and counters so I'm probably going to axe all my creatures in blue for those cards... and leave most of my creature power to my 10 multicolored cards.

My strategy went pretty poorly, the main issue was I kept drawing liquimetal OR my artifact destruction, but never both. The few games I drew enough of both I ended up mana starved.
I'm pretty sure I need 2 more liquimetals to get it more reliably, and another semblance anvil (i'll probably have to buy it)
I think I have a semblance anvil in pretty good condition I could send you in standard post in a top-loader, if you want.
Dunno what I'd give you in return bro :(
It's a dollar card. I mean, if you went to the pre-release and have something form it I'm looking for that'd be cool, otherwise I'm pretty cool with just sending it to you if I can find it. I might've already traded it though.
[editline][/editline]
Yeah. Looked, already traded it. Sorry man.
That's okay. You're awesome for offering though :)
No problem man. Anything else you're looking for? Commons, uncommons etc.
How does this compare to Yugioh? I know I'll get some biased answers here, but why is this game somehow far less popular than Yugioh? Not to talk shit to Yugioh as I found it a very fun card game but this seems more...experienced? Like it seems like the creators know what they are doing more than Konami which whores out Yugioh. Oh and no censorship/marketing to younger kids.

Yugioh has better marketing, plus the TV show. Magic just has the card game, so it's only seen in kids with kids when they see other people playing.
Magic is also a bit more complicated, there's a fair bit of stuff to remember and you have to know how to read the cards properly (wording is pretty important)
If you enjoyed Yugioh you'll enjoy Magic pretty much.
You'll probably find more people to play with too.
Who wants to know how to ruin Two Headed Giant?

Whoops.
(Also, one of my friends pulled a Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas in a Mirrodin Besieged booster a couple of days ago. It's an interesting card, but I don't like the looks of it. They shrunk the font on it, so it doesn't look like a real Magic card.)
Here are a couple decks I made, would love to get feedback on them.

Okay, I dont know whose idea it was to give this a Phyrexian mana symbol, but I hope theyre happy. This would be scary enough without that Extirpate being rather good but for free?! First turn Duress, name Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Surgical Extractionbye, $400, were not seeing you this game. As an added bonus, you can play this in whatever the heck color deck you want. Format-warping is almost an understatement.
This promo card for pre-ordering a booster box blows my mind.

Magic, internationally, is WAY more popular than Yu Gi Oh, especially among the older players of the card game.
Yu Gi Oh didn't really happen until the early 2000's, so the only people who got into it were people who were growing up during that time. Which is still a lot mind you, and when I was getting into middle/high school it seemed like my little sister and all her friends were obsessed with it and the TV show, so its pretty much the only thing she knew about to play, trading card wise.

Lol why isn't that legendary
Does that mean if you have two out you could win the game twice?

If anything that's a godsend.
Kills clearly overpowered tournament dominant cards and decks that are solely built around them (like JTMS) Not to mention it requires you to kill at least one JTSM to get out. So I don't know what this bullshit is about "Lol first turn duress!!", cause there's a good chance you're not going to kill something like JTMS on the first turn.
In causal play, it's nothing more than a nice support spell.

It would allow you to kill JTMS first turn if your opponent drew it in his opening hand. Pay one mana for duress then 2 life for Surgical Extraction. Kinda like a cheap Memoricide minus the searching of an enemy library.
My friend got me into this game last month. I'm kind of refusing to get any of the physical cards because I don't like how you're supposed to get a new set every time they come out with the next story part (not that it's a bad thing), but I got the videogame version which is good fun to sink some time into.

Learn to read. It has to be in their graveyard first.
