Thats weird I usually have 4 mana after 5 or 6 turns already.
If the game lasts a bit longer I easily have more than 10 mana.
The eldrazi are supposed to play in a dedicated deck.
Mana Echoes + lots of eldrazi spawns + skittering invasion = lol
high mana cost cards are in general not very useful unless you have a deck centered around getting an assload of mana out incredibly fast
[editline]15th April 2012[/editline]
some of my favorite decks are decks where all the creatures in them synergise together wonderfully, e.g. slivers
i have a sliver prebuilt deck that is hilariously overpowered if it can survive past the first 3 turns (because most of the cards in the deck have a converted mana cost of 2) because even the cheapest slivers came out as like 3/4 powerhouses and i just rolled through the entire game
another similar deck like that was one i actually built by myself that focused on saprolings, and i somehow (i don't know where i put that deck) made it that the saprolings could get spore counters and put out other saprolings so it just increased exponentially
Fungus-decks can be ridiculous I've heard
I prefer my good old classic Flying Swamp deck. It really fucks everyone over.
Sounds like Nightmare and Strata Scythe
i have a white flying deck and "Magus of the moat" is very useful. -creatures without flying can't attack.
= rape town
This is how the game functions my friend, you find an idea within the game (i.e high mana cards) and then use other cards to work with that idea... so for a deck containing some beast cards requiring high mana you want to ramp dat mana like a hoe by incorporating green which I would say has the most cards which allow you to get mana out on the field, such as rampant growth.
That is Magic. Enjoy.
Or combine [URL="http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=198374"]everflowing chalice[/URL] + a card with proliferate. Receive infinite mana.
I have that combo in one of my decks. It's fun, after a while you can just keep pumping strong and mana heavy cards on the battlefield.
It's a blue artifact deck, works extremely well if the game lasts for a while.

Anyone who doesn't have flying in their deck is a fool anyway.

Unless it is a burn deck.

One word... non-standard.
What do you mean by non-standard?
I have that in one of my decks. Twice even. It came with a duel deck.
went to the phoenix, arizona tournament this weekend
SO MUCH TRADE
also i obtained a snapcaster from a pack
got like $45 profit worth of trade
my mono black edh deck is close to being completed ($350 deck i have been slaving over)

Standard is a type of play that allows people to only use decks made up of cards from the most recent three blocks, so at the moment that is Innistrad, M12 and Mirrodin. This means that OP cards can quickly be thrown the fuck out.
That card is from Zendikar and therefore.. nope.avi.
FNM (Friday Night Magic) operates with these rules and so do most tournaments.
But I bought the dual deck 3/4 weeks ago.
( [url]http://www.gatheringmagic.com/duel-decks-elspeth-tezzeret/[/url] ) by the way.
It doesn't really matter since I only play casual with my friends.
And they are all new like me.

(newer, even)
Recently got into Magic after wanting to for years, finally met someone who plays and got myself a Dark Ascension Intro pack, Black/White thing... Im getting addicted.
I'm thinking about a deck that focuses on making the opponent discard cards and use Liliana's Caress to deal 2 damage for every card they discard.
If I had more than 1 Liliana's Caress out, would it still only do 2 damage for every card or would it stack and deal up to 8? Also what do you guys think of this kind of deck? Would it work well?

it would stack
sounds like an interesting deck but would be risky

Do you think it would work though? I guess I'd have to put some creatures in as a backup plan since if I go against blue I'm most likely out of luck as I'd be reliant on spells almost entirely.

i don't know why everyone always says this, if you build your deck properly and play well you can play around countermagic
anyways, a discard deck is plenty powerful but you can't just rely on liliana's caress. if anything the caress can be support to the whole discarding theme. with a deck like this the goal is to gain an advantage over your opponent by keeping their resources to a minimum with discard effects. if you really want to dodge countermagic just add some blue/black dual lands and run some creeping tar pits.
post a decklist or something and i could probably help you out
Well, we'll fight one of these days JakeAM. Probably on a weekend, I tend to be free then.
Also, there's a program called Magic Workstation out there which makes deck-making and playing games really easy to do over the net. It's free with advertisements, or you can pay a really high cost to remove them.

[QUOTE=slashsnemesis;35601163]Don't be afraid to tell me it sucks, it probably does. I just had my friend throw together a black deck for me.[/QUOTE]
if you really like the idea of a discard deck then the best place to start would be with this core
20 swamp
4 dark ritual
4 duress
4 hymn to tourach
4 liliana's caress
4 hypnotic specter
4 sign in blood
4 raven's crime
these are all fairly inexpensive with most of them being commons, except for the hymns and specters at $2 and $3
run multiples for consistency, and sign in blood ensures that you always have fuel; you can play around the life loss, along with being a finisher if you got your opponent to 2 life
20 swamps means you'll be able to cast your stuff without getting extremely flooded
dark ritual lets you bypass most countermagic if you get it in the opening hand, along with being acceleration.
ex: t1 you're playing first: swamp, dark ritual, liliana's caress, duress
you've used 4 cards, but in the process you've set up your win condition, taken out a counterspell/some bomb non-creature spell, and they've lost 2 life. this is nigh-impossible to stop except for daze, force of will, or gemstone cavern along with a spell pierce
with this setup you have 12 slots free
if you don't like getting hit by creatures you can do 4 doom blade, 4 black cat, 4 consume spirit for example
if you like having creatures you can run 4 street wraith (always cycle him), 4 nantuko shade (good card whether early or late game, and can turn late rituals and late lands into more power), 4 death's shadow (if you've cast 4 sign in blood on yourself and cycled 4 street wraiths, he'll be a 7/7 for 1 mana, but worthless until you have 12 or less life)
there's way more card choices but these are the ones that come to mind right now
the biggest problem with a discard deck is that there will be a point where your discard spells become dead cards, since your opponent will probably have used his cards, you have already eaten their hand with your critical mass of discard, or a combination of both.
So I'm theorizing a deck, and would like some feedback. The theme of the deck is "anything you can do I can do better" and would involve a playset of Iso scepters, reroutes, reverberate or fork, twincast, Vesuvan Shapeshifters, mimic vat, sculpting steels, and anything else I could find that are appropriate. Anyone have any ideas how to make it work?

lol
I have this deck.
The old card for it was Megrim. Deals 2 damage for 3.
Now we have loses 2 health for 2.
[url=http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=159180]Hymn to Tourach[/url] is fun.
[editline]17th April 2012[/editline]
I have 3/4 Hymns from Fallen Empires. Just need the howling spirit one.
[editline]17th April 2012[/editline]
Also, discard cards need not be dead cards.

That came out in 2010 and dual decks generally are non-standard (going by the cards in the most recent Venser vs Koth pack)

Yea after I purchased I saw they were from 2010, and I did not know that, thanks.
So if we were to play online I can't use that deck, or do you not mind?
That sucks though, it would mean I'd have to keep buying new cards even though my old decks are still perfectly fine...

Good thing my friends don't know, and therefore cannot care.

Do you go to PCP since you live in tempe?
I went there with some friends once to play EDH and this fucking kid came up and asked to play. We said sure and he said "So I have this card in my deck, whose commander is Teysa, called Painter's Servant. I'm not going to do anything too crazy with it, do you guys mind?" We said sure thinking maybe there wouldn't be too many shenanigans.
And then there was a grindstone and everything was black and 8 1/2 Tails was on full-retard and so on and so forth. >:(
[editline]17th April 2012[/editline]
Also I've got Angus Mackenzie more or less built and just need a few more cards, like Phelddagrifs
[editline]17th April 2012[/editline]
He got mad because Ulamog was in my deck.
