Yeah, a few of mine are pretty shit, but most of the ones I got are pretty good.
Bought 2 RTR boosters today with some spare change and pulled a Nev-Mizzet, Dracogenius.
The card quality is kinda shit though, I've noticed pretty much all the edges of cards from the 2 boosters I bought are pretty rugged and worn. Has this happened for anyone else?
Yeah, I pulled a Detention Sphere and it was pretty beat up, this actually kind of annoys me considering most of my cards are in gem condition (all my non-played and money rares are sleeved and kept in binders).
man i'm so happy right now. i bought a random repack off ebay about a week ago and the postage messed up on it, so the guy sent me 2 RTR boosters to say sorry and i pulled a jace.
Nice.
I pulled quite a few good things from RtR boosters.
Namely a foil Trostani, Selesnya's Voice and foil Chromatic Lantern. As well as 2 Hallowed Fountains, Temple Garden, and Hypersonic Dragon.
My Tormod's Crypt cards I got for 2 bucks came today.
Well worth the 2 dollars just to screw my friend's self milling deck over hardcore.
Fuck Splinterfright.
I don't really get indestructibility, it says lethal damage won't kill it but if it's toughness is 0 it still dies. If it's toughness is 0 wouldn't that mean it took lethal damage? Or does it just mean that it can only be killed with infect/wither or -1/-1 counters?
Yes, any form of counters will kill it, combat damage or any form of spell dealing damage instead of counters won't.

Wait, is Devil's play the only thing that does damage? Oh and the sideboard. That's pretty neat.

yep, you win by ramping into a huge devil's play
mystic retrieval and increasing vengeance help you play around countermagic
Found a form from a 1999 starter set, you fill it in and either get a $2 rebate or a free 6th edition booster pack. Reckon they'd still offer it? :v:
Do it anyway, Wizards is pretty cool with that kind of stuff. Maybe they'll send you something cool.

it's cool, but it seems silly that they used one devil's play and left the Rakdos's Return in sideboard.
Thank you legacy for making my baleful strix climb up to around $20
I really want to play America Delver in Modern, but why oh why does every Modern deck require like $350 worth of just land?

Dual lands are the backbone to any successful deck, if you don't pay for them then you're hardly competitive. They really gotta take the typical dual lands out of the rare slot, the competitive scene will be a hell ov' a lot better.

I completely understand, I play a lot of competitive standard, I probably have at least 1 playset of nearly every ISD utility land or ISD/Core taplands. It's just that fetchlands and shocklands are still 15+ for nearly every case. So when you need multiple playsets, well...
60 bucks for a manabase, which is what it usually floats around in Standard without Caverns (I don't see the point in Cavern in the current Meta besides providing the colored mana, and even then it's not worth the price and most decks are going to be too creature scattered), 60 bucks, I can pay that if I have to, maybe trade for the lands if they're one of the ones I don't have. 300 to 350 bucks for a manabase? I can't afford that! Wizards really needs to work on making formats cheaper, I realize they were tryin this with shocklands reprints but, I mean, come on.
Even the shock lands from RtR are more than 10 dollars each. It's absurd for such fundamental cards. Just put them into the uncommon block and we can have some more interesting rares. Though, some dual lands would fit into the rare block.
I'd say Cavern of Souls is exclusively for the uncounterable clause. That's pretty powerful for any kind of deck.
Shocklands are $10+ because they're incredibly powerful for what they are. Not only can they come in untapped, but they can enable the core/inn duals. Also I'd imagine part of the reason why they're up is because a lot of people don't trade what they get so the demand is still fairly high compared to the supply.

I don't know what to do, I've lost interest in Magic.
This has been sitting on my desk forever now.

I'm pretty new to Magic, and I want to know. I swear I saw my friend have a non basic land that seems useless. What's the point of lands that only give you an uncoloured mana? Or even one coloured mana? Why not just use a basic land?

Lands which produce uncolored mana almost always usually have another upside, like providing a utility or other tool. Lands which produce one mana or two colors, or even three (dual lands) allow your manabase to be more varied while still being "smooth" enough to be able to play your spells without having mana issues. Most T1 competitive decks run two or even three colors, and when you need to be making consistent, responsive plays turn after turn, getting mana-screwed just can't happen.

But the one mana, how is it any different from a basic?
But the one mana, how is it any different from a basic?
What do you mean only one mana? I can't think of any non-basic lands in standard that only produce one mana of a single color that isn't colorless.

Oh, then I might be mistaken. I probably didn't remember correctly. Well thanks for the info.

Yeah I can't find anything that would be one mana like I think you're describing.
Also gatherer is a great tool if you're new! Or if you're not!
Anyone know if you can use lands to summon Allosaurus Rider?
The text says exile "two green cards", and forests are technically green. Tried to Google, but no luck. I assume its not the case, because that would be rather easy. I dunno.

Actually lands are colorless, as silly as that rule is.
