Great set what did you pull? Though I'm glad it's not standard anymore with all the specific deck being the main winners of tournaments. Now Standard is much more open to different decks in the new sets than before.
Mythics: Elspeth Tirel; Geth, Lord of the Vault (x2, 1 foil); Liege of the tangle; Mindslaver; Venser, the Sojourner. And of the rares I really liked these 3: Argentum Armor, Genesis Wave and Etched Champion. All in all, really great pulls. And nice additions to my artifact deck. Really wish I had pulled a Wurmcoil engine, or a Platinum Emperion though, awesome cards. [editline]18th December 2012[/editline]
Got into playing this a couple weeks ago, bought a couple intro sets and some boosters, have been having fun, but I hate people running Rakdos decks, seems like the cheapest setup in the game right now, and everyone at the place I play at has one.
I used to have one, got bored. I feel like all there is to it is just, I unleash everything, attack with everything every turn, until they die. It gets worse once I actually pull Rakdos, Lord of Riots... Suddenly I get to play EVERYTHING for 1-2 mana cost each.
I totally agree with you, I find beatdown really boring even if it's the most efficient strategy (pretty much all tournament decks are beatdown in one form or another) I love combo and crazy stuff happening, if you like that sort of stuff play EDH with your friends, it's the best for crazy scenarios. Like that time I used sculpting steel to copy my teammates birthing pod to sacrifice one of my creatures to search for the last mana myr I needed to make an infinite loop comprised of silver myr palladium myr myr galvanizer hovermyr and unwinding clock which allowed me to get infinite mana and mind control the opponents entire field with Memnarch.
So the card shop that just opened on Tuesday in my area has already gained Sanctioned status for FNM. The fact that I live in a area with nothing but walmart as it's main attraction and that it was able to reach that so fast is wonderful. I can't wait to play my first official FNM with my B/R Zombies deck.
Holy shit an MTG thread. Didn't realize we had one. I just got in this game with dark ascension and I think I'm addicted. Been playing a lot at my college's gaming club... Already spent around $200 on cards for EDH and other casual stuff.
After my first sanctioned FNM I managed to finish 4th out of 24 players in which granted me 15$. I also won a roll in the top 4 for a Blood Crypt playmat.
santa got me a little something for christmas [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/WNPQG.jpg[/img_thumb]
anyone else following gatecrash spoilers? seems pretty neat so far
My friend got into magic because of me indirectly. He's now going to drafts regularly because he has a job for the first time ever. I'm low on dosh atm. He's getting as many izzet rares as he can to make me trade my shit for them. I'm not sure if I'm happy because I get izzet rares for free, or annoyed because he's picking izzet rares specifically because I want them. blargh.
Woo I signed up for the prerelease event of Gatecrash!
After seeing all this Dimir stuff so far, I've decided I'm rebuilding my Wrexial edh deck after I finish rebuilding Ghave. Also I ordered three foil Ash Zealots because they were only about $5 apiece and I can definitely see that card goin up in price.
Been playing this since I was a kid, my dad was a collector ;) It's the best game ever, I want to devote my entire life to it! 2013 Championship, here we go! [editline]14th January 2013[/editline] Also, how many cards do you buy a year? I'm trying to keep it at 36 boosters from each set (100 $)...
Me and my younger sister decided to split a Deckbuilder's Toolkit 2013. I'm rocking a green/black-deck. Love dem Murder's.

Do you have any tactics when playing booster draft?
Hi everyone, I've been making my own TF2 themed magic cards so I thought I'd post a pic. Let me know what you think :D
Gatecrash! What guild do you think is best? I'm, kind of splited, as I like all of them; Orzhow: Well, What can I say, Basilica Schreecher has strictly more extort than Storm Crow. Extort isn't the best abbility in the first couple of rounds, as you have many cards in you hand you could play instead, but later on it is a nice boost in both damage and health. Dimir: Cipher, cipher cipher - a little expensive, but scarely powerful if done right. If you want agression and milling, this is your guild. Gruul: Bloodrush is kind of like an advanced Giant Growth, but at the cost of a creature spell. that should make your opponent think twice. Boros: Lots of humans and soldiers, what more do you want? Bonuses for wave attacks? Ladies and genttlemen, let me present, all the way from WTC: Battalion! Simic: Let your creatures get stronger throughout the game with their evolve abbility. It may not sound as much, but if you think about it, having four 4/4's during 4'th turn is better than a 1/1, a 2/2, a 3/3 and a 4/4...
Gatecrash! What guilt do you think is best?
I'm not sure yet, I haven't taken to time to study all the leaked cards, but from what I've seen, I'm glad I'm going to play Boros. That doesn't mean it will be the best guild though :)
simic 4 lyfe
SCOUT BREAKS THE COLOUR PIE YOU BUFFOON
huh?
huh?
first strike and haste are not blue mechanics
Gatecrash! What guilt do you think is best?
Borosssss! It is going to be sick!
At the prerelease event, my friend pulled a Obzedat, Ghost Council. Then he got his prize pack and got another one. Not to mention he came along a Gideon, Champion of Justice as well.
first strike and haste are not blue mechanics
Most of the abilities don't fit the colours, but they fit the character and that's what I was going for
I'm tinkering with a potential Simic deck, here's what I've come up with so far. Does anyone playing Simic have any comments to make? I'd like to have a good idea before I start buying or trading for cards. http://www.mtgdeckbuilder.net/Decks/ViewDeck/463620
ive been playing magic for a few months now did the gate crash tournament failed and want to get better is a fatpack a good investment
ive been playing magic for a few months now did the gate crash tournament failed and want to get better is a fatpack a good investment
Fat packs are great for boosting your collection, not so much for making an entire deck. They also come with a nice spindown D20, a land pack and of course the box which is incredibly good for holding your cards.
i mean ive got the holiday gift box and shit. But i'm trying to just get some better cards. I dont really have a large income to drop on "money cards" though. so fat pack good or bad, worth it or not as far as that spindown d20 goes i have one thats almost as big as a baseball
Its fun to grab fat packs/booster packs but its not very efficient for building a deck. I'd much rather buy all the stuff I need online, then chance it with boosters and stuff. I built an 11 dollar deck, although its a modern one, that way. So many unused cards from before I started buying specifics online though.
Fat Packs are also very good for starting a collection, combine it with an Intro pack of your choice and you're good to go, you got a deck, and a tonne of boosters, and enough lands to fit at least 4 decks, Not to mention boxes to hold them in, dice to play with, and a box to store everything in. Where I am in rural Australia, that costs about $75, not a bad price here, and the equivalent shouldn't be too bad elsewhere. I'm aiming to get one every time they release a set, they're worth more than their weight in boosters, at least to me they are. Then just get the occasional booster packs, and you should be right. Price does add up after a while, but it really depends how serious you want to get. I've been in since Return to Ravnica, and I've probably spent about $200 on the game, and have more than enough cards to play virtually anything I can think of. I still suck though, I like high mana cards too much.
