Yeah, I got whupped by an intro pack, even with my cherry picked angels. I like too many of them, they were all too expensive and I only got a couple creatures done. It's a funny game that way.
Yeah, building a deck that is effective can take some time, you can easily spend ages putting something together only to have it completely fail you in your games.

I was fortunate enough to have a pro who's been playing since it started show some of us new guys how to build decks, and teach us about the concept of the mana curve, suffice to say, I've been doing much better since I started skipping the CMC4s and 5s and going with 1s and 2s.
[QUOTE=Chris220;39474090]I'm tinkering with a potential Simic deck, here's what I've come up with so far.
Does anyone playing Simic have any comments to make? I'd like to have a good idea before I start buying or trading for cards.

You should probably add some ramp in there. Drop the ooze flux, gridlocks, and mystic genesis for a playset of farseeks.
Experiment One is really good too and you definitely oughta be playing a playset of that.

I've heard a lot about Experiment One, but I'm not sure I understand why he's so loved. Regeneration is nice, but since it removes two counters to regenerate it seems to me that he'll never manage to get all that powerful to actually deal out any sort of damage. I take it that's not how it turns out in practice?
Well you should be playing plenty of creatures to counteract that, but you really only need to chip away 20 points of life and if you're curving right that won't be hard at all.

Hmm, fair point. I've updated my deck list, removing stuff I was proxying and so on, and added the farseeks like you suggested. Could you take another look and tell me what you think? Time to figure out what I could take out for Experiment One. I'd like to play with him so I can get a feel of how he actually plays.

How does this list look? If it gets a good response here I'll start collecting the cards I need. The win-con is pretty standard, hold off the opponent with stuff like Druid's Deliverance and O-Ring while you build up a massive token army via population then swing in for massive damage.

Rancor is too good not to put in, plus it's more reliable trample (Other than your charms) to make the temples hit for populate.
The more populate triggers you have, the higher chance of winning.
I got bored and started working on a little program to generate BBCode (or HTML if you prefer) deck lists. It's nowhere near done, I'm planning on making it so that each card will link to its page on the gatherer website. I doubt many people are interested but if you'd like to use it I can provide a link in the future, when it has a few more features.

Question: Does Cipher only last one turn? As in, if I stick a cipher card onto an Invisible Stalker, can he use a copy of said card every time he deals combat damage to a player, or is it just one turn?

Nope, it's permanent and can be used every time.

Thanks. Any idea what the general consensus of Cipher is?

That it's a good mechanic but incredibly overcosted which leads to it being fringe use at best in constructed.
Playing at an SCG Open next weekend, pretty hyped.

What he said.
However, it's stupid powerful in limited with how many unblockable creatures there are.
So long as you're not overextending and playing some of the more stupidly expensive cards. The draw spell, for example will quickly pay for itself when placed on an unblockable creature such as Elusive Krasis or the pseudo-unblockable Deathcult Rogue. I ended up with three of those guys during the prerelease and man did they piss some people off.
I got into this game a while ago and while I love it, I've never been able to actually play it because nobody I know is into it. Then I jokingly showed my brother my deck and suddenly he decided to borrow my Deckbuilder's Toolkit. A couple hours later, he came back with a deck. We then played three games.
The first of which I lost because I wasn't drawing any mana. The second I won. But the third ended up being a null game because it turned out my brother had THIS in his deck.

Holy shit, fuck this card. First of all, it's indestructible to most things. That alone made me hate it, but it got worse when I noticed this line:
"If it's toughness is 0 or less, it still goes into the owner's graveyard."
Call us both idiots, but neither of us had any idea what that meant. It seemed to completely contradict the fact that it's supposed to be fucking indestructible. We ended up calling it a null game and left it at that.
I dunno if we're ever gonna try playing again after that, but I definitely enjoyed it up until that point.

It's immune to damage, but say if it gets tragic sliped it dies.
Anything that gives it -1 to toughness will kill it.
Examples being, if it gets searing speared. That cards deals 3 damage, which because the myr is immune to damage does nothing.
If it gets tragic slipped, the myr has toughness 0. Meaning it dies.
What if I'm not running a black deck? Will there still be a way to get rid of it?
[QUOTE=Katamari101;39512015]What if I'm not running a black deck? Will there still be a way to get rid of it?[/QUOTE]
This will get rid of it.

Murder or anything with "destroy" or "damage" can't hurt it.
I don't run a black deck. That's not going to help in a deck with no black mana.

Wow completely missread what you said, what colours do you run?
[QUOTE=TheHypnotoad;39512130]Wow completely missread what you said, what colours do you run?[/QUOTE]
Red and white.
Cant play for shit on planeswalkers '13.
Had my first proper game in real life with Izzet/Ravnica deck and managed to kill 1 person in a 4 way FFA, and 2 people in a 5 person FFA, and finished second :D
im just terrible at 1 on 1
Anything that gives the Myr 0/-1 or above will kill it, or you can exile it (take a look into Angelic Edict as an example). You can also bounce it (i.e send it back to its owner's hand via unsummon.)
If that isn't enough, try making him sacrifice it with something, or just disable it via something like Pacifism.
[QUOTE=Katamari101;39512133]Red and white.[/QUOTE]
Oblivion ring

They're still a pretty good deal, and I love to get a box, but I miss the days you'd get a whole novel and stuff.
