Brainstorm and Index are both good Ponder substitutes I'd say.
I'd personally go with Brainstorm if possible.

Plus it's an instant which means you can draw a card and set up your next two draws at their end step.

Maybe even more so than Ponder, since you don't have to get a instant/sorcery in the 3 you look at to set up a flip.

Just had an awesome moment, opponent was tapped out at 6 life, I only had rancor in my hand. Topdecked a Hellrider, rancored and swung for game. Had I not drawn Hellrider his Geist of Saint Traft would have made quick work of me.
Rancor is absolutely amazing
