Working on netherbridge over lava, game lags for five seconds, ghast spawns right in front of me, shoots me off the bridge and I fall in lava. I call that a BS death but whatever.

I swear to god that if you delete my playerfile to revive me next Friday, I'm quitting this server. My enderchest is the only safe spot to keep my valuables.
Maybe I'll keep ender chest data if people specifically request it. Because It takes a long time to do the unbanning process. I'll keep yours.
Also, if it was lag/glitched based, you can appeal it.

Does my post further up in the page count?
My death was almost entirely my fault. I was battling this zombie, when a skeleton on the other side of a ravine shoots an arrow which flings a creeper (who was on the other side of the ravine) into me and BOOM

Damn, man. So fast again?

Wasn't my fault this time! (it was) I had iron armour on!

There has got to be a better way to handle the unbanning. Right now it's this ridiculously hacky way of manually editing everybody's player file that results in frequent world corruption errors. If bukkit gets updated, is there not a plugin that will let you turn hardcore mode off on the server and just ban people normally when it detects that they have died?
eh no worries
there's 8 diamonds in the chest; if we ever get 20 that aren't tied up in more important things i should be revived because i am the greatest
I thought he abolished the diamond for revive thing.
I made my contribution to the library today, by writing "TheBigS' Survival Guide" - I was the first person to ever die on this server back on day 1, and I have never died since. I died because I got careless and let my guard down, and I vowed it wouldn't happen again.
The book is 29 pages long, chock full of what I think is helpful advice. Not rocket science by any means, but just some good things to remember.
Here's an excerpt with some of the tips:
1) Torches, Torches, Torches: §rI can't stress this enough. There just aren't enough places that are well lit enough to be secure, and it costs people their lives every day. They're easy to make, and coal is everywhere. Don't have coal? Chop some tree logs and cook them. Use them zealously to light up areas where you will be working.
2) Close Doors: When you enter/leave a location with a door or fence, close it behind you immediately! Not only will it prevent random baddies from wandering in at night, you never know what is stalking you at the moment - you may close a gate, turn around, and realize that if you hadn't, that zombie on the other side would have eaten your brains.
3) RESPECT Mobs: It doesn't matter whether it's a spider, a pig, or a creeper; all of them can get you killed very easily if you don't respect them. And don't think you're immune to this rule even if you're wearing full enchanted diamond armor. Every time you step out of your house to kill a zombie roaming your fields, you're taking a gamble with your life. Sure, that skeleton might only hit you for half a heart with your sweet armor, but that cliff drop off will hit for a lot more if he knocks you off.
4) Mark Your Way Back: The last thing you want to do on this server is be lost in a massive forest come nightfall. When you head out into the wilderness, always place something along your trail every once in a while so that you can find your way back. Torches work well, but any block that isn't common in the area you're in will also work fine (even cobblestone).
5) Be Paranoid At All Times: This is the best tip I can give you. Always know what is going on around you. Before you step out into a cavern, even if it's 5x5x5, check behind you, step into the cavern, step back, check behind you again, and then RUN into it while looking all around again; don't step in and stand still, or something that you didn't see will have time to close in on you. The same rules apply to even the most common things like tending your fields or leaving/entering your house.
6) Never Mine Straight Down (or up): Lava deaths are on the rise for some reason on this server, and while I'm 90% sure those deaths were following this rule, I'm going to mention it anyway. If you dig straight down, you may fall right into a pit of lava, or a huge dark cavern which is currently home to several creepers. If you mine straight up, it's the same; except the creepers will hop down into the hole with you for an added scare before they rock your world.
7) Hide Your Valuables: "But why would I need to hide them? We're all on the same side and stealing is against the rules!" Yes, it is - but remember rule #5 - Be paranoid at all times; even of players. A lot of new players like to 'borrow' things from chests, complete with a cute little sign like "Borrowed 20 iron, THX - Will return them!!" - Problem is, 90% of the time these players die before they can make good on their word. It might as well be stealing. I definitely encourage philanthropy, and if you don't mind the chance of a few pieces of iron or coal missing when you log on, then by all means store your chests in plain sight. Otherwise, I suggest keeping your valuables in a secure and hidden location OR on your person.
8) Use Your Ears: On this server especially, sounds can be an extremely useful indicator of danger nearby. Learning to recognize the sounds that mobs make can be the difference between living or dying; especially when you're mining and your vision is impared.
9) Don't Go AFK Outside Of Shelter: Common sense I would think, but I've seen people die breaking this rule. If you have to go afk, go inside a house or just log off if you're in a relatively safe area. If you're in the wilderness, do NOT just climb into a tree and stand there thinking you're fine. A wandering skeleton could shoot you off your perch and into the hordes of hungry undead waiting below. If you have to go AFK in the wilderness, go somewhere high and block yourself in. Add some torches in the immediate area around you to prevent mobs from spawning right on top of you.

Nah, I was just angry yesterday. Was my own fault that I was floating above the lava without a Fire Resistance potion.
Though I do feel that ghast spawn was cheap.
Whitelist tomkurkov please

I'd like to be whitelisted, IGN: BlackHawks111

I would add on a
10) Always have a weapon in hand while travelling outside: No matter what time of day, there could be a creeper or zombie right around the corner. Things glitch, things get shaded just a bit too much. Even in day light a zombie could be readying to munch on your brain. Any time you're traveling from one building to the next with no intention of farming or mining - keep your damn sword ready, maybe your bow as well.

i did this the first time i joined, right down to dying before being able to give back what i took
(when bans reset I repaid them almost immediately though)
also here's another useful rule:
11) Keep your hunger bar full at all times: If you're in a fight with a mob (or a bunch of mobs) that +1 half heart every 3 seconds (or whatever the hp regen thing is) can save your ass. Carry around at least a half-stack of a food that fills a little hunger (melons or carrots work) and munch them constantly.
TheBigS is going to have a Volume II soon :v:
Got shot by a skeleton off a ledge and fell into water, didn't matter apparently as I died from fall damage.
Shame, I was almost finished digging the doom pit.
[editline]3rd November 2012[/editline]
Pretty BS.
[editline]3rd November 2012[/editline]
I mean I grabbed my bucket and placed the water under me (which worked plenty of times before, I've fallen almost to my death 2-3 times), hit the water, swam up, and as soon as I got out of the water and touched the ground I died. Wish they're fix ghost water and buckets.

Have no fear, I went and collected all your stuff and dropped it off in your ranch.

Thanks, it makes me feel a lot better knowing I'll have something to come back to Friday.
So er, not sure what happened, but I think someone stole a whole chest of literally all the items I have. I have -nothing- but whatever I can find now.

A little while ago you mentioned a book you wanted "found" upon your death. Do you still want that published, or do you want it left for Friday?
Also, my bro died about 20 minutes after you did :v:

I hope me dying 20 minutes after ZestyLemons doesn't become a "thing" for me. First thing I'm doing is putting a roof on that damn house.
Aahahahahahhahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhahahahahhaaha
So I survived all last week, and now guess what? My house in spawnville is gone. The almost the whole thing. Everything above ground is gone, the farms and the building, and my sheep pit.
Then there's the underground portion. The front door is gone, and the doors to the underground tunnel. The farmland is still there, and the chicken pit, but there are no crops or chickens, or torches.
The strangest this is, it's like it's been just removed, leaving everything around it right where it should be. There are trees on top, in different places that they originally were in. Changes I made to the dirt are still there. The road to it is gone, but the rest of the road is still there.
All in all, wtf why god why.

Yeah, I'd like that.
It's in one of the chests full of cobble.
Due to recent griefing happening,
white-listing is temporarily on hold.
If you have an amazing reason why I should let you play, PM me.

I'll go publish it now then.

Write a section about the magic of buckets of water.
I could write a novel about how much I love buckets of water. I think I will. But seriously, the first thing you should make when you get iron is a bucket. The water can push away mobs, extinguish fires, allow you to traverse lava lakes, allow you to ascend and descend cliffs and even traverse ceilings, allow you to quickly destroy or harvest all plants in an area, and more.
