I have spend hours and hours exploring cave&mine system under my place, and still it's not fully explored.
I have found 5 dungeons + 2 cave spider spawners already.

Spire towers made of different colored material (Spruce planks, wool, etc.), more windows, and arrow slits would really help break up the monotony.
