You can also make an elevator out of a minecart (to elevate you obviously). It's not that difficult, all you would really need is some sort of interface to go up or down floors (buttons for example). I bring up pistons and minecarts because they're much faster than conventional means of ascending (ladders, water). However, the fastest way up would probably be ender pearl elevators. Throw an ender pearl straight up, and have pistons catch you once you're blinked there.

Door teleporting is best elevator. One spot of lag and you can glitch through a piston elevator mid way up and it's bye bye american pie. Personally I just use a water elevator/ladder and then a water drop to get down again. Hatches also work quite well.

Yeah, I've been online alone/with one other person at times, but I live a few hundred blocks away. I can [I]get[/I] to spawnville quickly, if for some reason I was made aware that he/she/it was tearing the place up, but I doubt they'd say it in chat.

I'm actually kind of pissed off because the Nether portal I spent so much time getting ready connects to some other dudes. I wound up getting lost in the Nether for half an hour.

I slowed whitelisting down considerable due to recent events. So if you PMed me, hang tight, you're not forgotten. If you PMed me with just "I want to play here is my IGN" I probably won't whitelist you as fast as someone who is like "Hey I really want to play for x and y reasons, also I'm friends with x and y on the server!" Also doing a full backup of the world before letting anyone else in. Whitelisting and unbanning tonight at 5:30pm EST.
