I think items dropped on ice and glass blocks move faster with a water current than on other materials. Useful for mob traps.

Plus spamming jump in a 2x1 tunnel with trapdoors on the top part and ice on the bottom makes you go really, really fast (as in twice as fast as a Minecart) [editline]11th January 2013[/editline] And you need ice if you want water in the nether.
