I speak from experience when I say yes, take a break.

I rarely get so involved with the characters as the KS people here, for example, do that I'd get something emotionally out of the sex scenes. It's more like watching a pixel mess pussy and reading a bunch of masterpiece level text like "unh fufufuu nununhun" and "not my nipples unhuhunhu" for ten minutes.

cross channel had some good sex scenes, and it felt like it actually fitted. you know, people having sex while [sp]end of the world is near, as that was what they thought[/sp] isn't unusual.

Also I only wanted to bang Kiri but I think you have to do every route or the game goes Groundhog Day on yo' ass.

Which I'm doing right now. Convenient! And even though I've only played Katawa Shoujo and G-senjou no Maou, I can fully agree with the part about not everyone being an idiot. G-senjou's protagonist is awesome. Can't say the same about KS's though.

One of the biggest "Stupidity" award is when the MC does something nobody in their fucking right mind would do, and you can't do anything about it. (Aka, (KS) [sp]Hisao saying "Keep your secrets to rest under a grave" to Emi[/sp] or other scenes like that) Another trait of stupidity is the MC not realizing something the reader guessed hours ago with the same amount of info than he had, and wait until the girl tells him for him to finally "get it" Yet another is their beliefs or how they act. For an instance, Emiya in Fate/stay night wants everybody to be happy and dandy when everybody wants him dead. That's sheer stupidity (And not a spoiler, it's revealed very early on) There's many things that makes MC in visual novels look stupid and retarded, and for sure there'll always be one of them in every VN. However, I'd rate a MC stupid only if it's a constant problem, like Hisao in certain arcs is extremely stupid, and in others, is somewhat less. However, I'd still call Hisao one of the retarded main characters of visual novels.

You know, I don't think Shiki from Tsukihime did anything particularly retarded as a VN MC.

Though I remember there was a lot more choices in Tsukihime, remove chances of the first situation happening. Shiki was also as confused on his situation as we are, so he doesn't fit the second description. And last, Shiki doesn't really have any beliefs. Though I remember him (TSUKIHIME) [sp]Loving Ciel-sempai to the point he'd enjoy dying just for her[/sp] a tad creepy and stupid, though.
