I honestly don't support Mentaru Shoujo. I have a friend with Bipolar disorder and she is flipping shit over it. And she is now flipping shit at me for liking Katawa Shoujo because it somehow 'fetishizes' physical disabilities.

You're not supporting it because someone you know is irrationally hating on it?

She has yet to feel.

Not irrationally. She brings up good points. Besides, I sort of agree with her on MS. Plus, there is no real base for the school. Clumping a bunch of Mentally Ill students into ONE school is a god awful idea, no matter the circumstance. Plus, knowing multiple mentally ill people in real life (like, medically diagnosed), I know that it would never occur like it will in the game.

But she's acting like it's making fun of mentally ill people, it's not.

It is fetishizing them more than they already are. Which is, by the way, a lot.
The difference between KS and MS is that MS deals with a far more serious and topical issue that will really pinch a lot of nerves with people. KS had less pressing issues and had less to do with their disabilities. It would be far too difficult to make a VN based around Mental issues as they are ever prevalent and damn near impossible to suppress despite excessive medication.
That is my main complaint with the game.

How can you say that physical disabilities are less of an issue? They can be more in some cases.
How can you say that physical disabilities are less of an issue? They can be more in some cases.
It is less topical and can be worked around in a larger majority of cases, as is evident in KS. Rin eats with her feet. Lilly can navigate with a cane. Shizune has sign language. Emi has prosthetics. Hanako could get skin grafts (but she also has Catatonic Schizophrenia, it would appear)
Working around a physical disability is one thing, but working around a Mental disability is damn near impossible. Plus, there is very little wiggle room with mental disability. The person usually either has it or they don't. There are varying degrees, but if they are going to a school SPECIFICALLY FOR mental disability, then it has to be pretty bad. I would know, since MY BEST FRIEND is legally insane but he can still go to school with me.
As for severity, there is generally still some form of workaround, even for severe cases. Take a look at Stephen Hawking. He can still speak, albeit slowly.
She brings up good points.
Well don't share those with us! It's not like knowing them would be helpful in any way!
Never heard of ^that before, but it looks interesting. Will check it out later on down the line.
Took a bit of a break from most forums cause I wanted to dedicate my time to getting better at drawing [sp]it didn't help much, but I did get accepted into art college[/sp]. I'll probably be a bit of a lurker in this thread as, as much as I love visual novels, I don't get much time to play them :U

I don't think there's been a release date announced yet for any region.
So I finished Saya no Uta. It was quite funny for trying too hard to disgust me. Anyway, I'm now on Alchemy Meister which is sort of a VN.
Saya no Uta had a pretty good story, too bad for the [sp]loli rape[/sp] otherwise I'd have recommended it to some more people.
It was good because it was short and wasn't losing time with pointless moments (except for [sp]the loli rape[/sp]) like most VN out there.
I consider Saya No Uta to be my favourite VN, too bad replaying it won't be as fun because I already know how it ends.
Maybe in a few years? :v:
my favorite VN is clannad
its really great, and if you haven't played it you should.
my favorite VN is clannad

Holy shit, I have continued to play G-Senjou no Maou from my little break from VNs. God damn, this is awesome. The music is also very fitting and generally bad ass. I really, really think that this is the best fictional story I have ever read or similar. I don't know exactly why, but I can't help myself to get really affected by it.
[sp]Currently at Chapter 5, Asai is trying to save Haru from the window washing platform, just after he beat the shit out of hashimoto. I really liked the transition of when you see his eyes and the awesome music starts.[/sp]

Just finished it. Amazing, just amazing.
[editline]16th March 2012[/editline]
Or not. Still got the epilogue apparently.
So I really finished it now, and I couldn't help myself from crying. I never cry from movies, games or anything not exactly related to me. But this, I just couldn't stop myself, it was both a beautiful but also a sad story/ending.
[sp]Sad in the way how everything was. The ending did end sort of happy, but I cried tears of sadness and I would guess some kind of happy-ness that Haru and he would be reunited, as well meeting his apparent daughter.[/sp]
I give this VN a 11/10. It gets better and better throughout the story, and ends amazingly.

The Road to Glory is fucking awesome, but I'll avoid posting it to not spoil it for those playing through G Senjou right now
Still, great suspense/action music
