I can't even install the game.
You need to install the game, the bonus append discs, the patch and play it all whilst having your computer set to Japanese Locale.
That's going to be irritating. The SRPG gameplay seemed interesting.
It's really not that bad - I run my computer basically permanently in Japanese Locale just now, because all it does is change how your computer runs non-unicode programs. UI et al is still in English. (It's the "System Region" option in the language and display settings)
I've just completed Kyou's route in Clannad. I've read that you can get only [sp]bad ending[/sp] in Ryou's and you don't get a light, so I'll just do as this guide recommends: http://soukyuu.emevas.net/CLANNAD_guide.html It's really helpful by the way.
Using a guide for a visual novel kinda ruins the experience IMO. When you get the good ending without using one, it feels like you actually earned it.
I swear to god Kamidori is the hardest game I ever had to patch in English. The patch is so fucking retarded, why does it scan my entire pc for the game when I put the executable right in the same folder as the game. Can anyone help me?
If you don`t have both appendix installed, the english patch won`t work.
Using a guide for a visual novel kinda ruins the experience IMO. Nobody wants to go through HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF STORY just to get a bad ending and do it all over.
Well, I got a good ending twice in Katawa Shoujo by making right choices. And I've learned the hard way that I prefer using a guide over having that weird feeling when I get a good ending after getting a bad one.
You know, a while after playing G-Senjou no Maou, I've been thinking. [sp]If Maou could have the resources and mental power to effectively create anarchy in a part of a busy city for the purpose of freeing his father out of jail, why the hell couldn't he just do a direct jailbreak?[/sp]
So i've just completed Katawa Shoujo(well, an arc and a half), it was the first visual novel i've played, and it got me to wondering, are there any visual novels that compare to this, that are easily accessible?
There are several that are better, but I can't think of any free ones.
Check OP.
Check OP.
I did so before posting and am interested in clannad, but after various Google searches can't seem to find a way of purchasing/obtaining it for pc. [editline]24th March 2012[/editline]
Saya no Uta is free, but it's something else entirely.
Will check it out anyway, it must be good if someone has mentioned it.

Finally got Kamidori Alchemy Meister to work, and then I've played 10 hours straight. Fuck this thing is addicting.
fair warning
Thanks for that, I've no courage for horrors.
Saya no Uta is free, but it's something else entirely.
It isn't free.
Using a guide for a visual novel kinda ruins the experience IMO. Of course I've finished VNs without guides, but the result feels the same to me, so I choose to use walkthroughs.
Is MGQ considered a VN? [editline]March 25th 2012[/editline]
fair warning
What the hell
Thanks for the thread man. Katawa Shoujo seems to cheer up my sunday pretty much, even though everything's fine already. I am pretty much astounded by the quality of such seemingly simple.
why don't you just use applocale and make a shortcut
Hey you never tell me when you guys are in tinychat you said you would :(
So finally got round to finishing Sharin no kuni. Was better than I was expecting it to be. Sachi's route felt like it was being very dragged out when I was reading it however by the end I kind felt that the length was justified. [sp] Bittersweet ending and it felt like you had a real effect on the girl, whether or not you chose to romance her[/sp] Touka's route was probably the weakest one for me. Dragged out beyond all belief that resulted in a very predictable and unsatisfying ending. Was expecting Natsumi's route to be boring and depressing from the impression that you get of her beforehand. However, it develops very well and shows the [sp] Backstory of all the characters much and catalogs the injustices that came with it[/sp] Easily my favorite route. [sp]Ririko's route was a nice surprise and a good climax for the all the story arcs in the VN.[/sp] Voice acting was generally pretty good although I'd have to give special mention to Wakamoto for voicing the antagonist. Overall probably give it around 7/10.
It isn't free.
It isn't? I though I saw a download link on vndb, but that must've been a link to the Nitroplus site or something, sorry about that.
Miyazawa Yukine's arc in Clannad is so heartwarming.
Miyazawa Yukine's arc in Clannad is so heartwarming.
She's actually one of my favorite characters, it's a shame she [sp]doesn't appear in After Story at all[/sp]
She's actually one of my favorite characters, it's a shame she [sp]doesn't appear in After Story at all[/sp]
It was a disappointing epilogue though, it doesn't really tell you anything about her or tomoya after [sp] they kissed at the grave, just sunohara being made fun of as usual[/sp]
It isn't free.
Odd, I remember it being listed as free a few years ago.
If you played it for free means that you got it illegally
