Speak for yourse-
yes, you're quite right
I've finished Koumura's route in Clannad today. I was surprised when he [sp]set up Tomoya's and Youhei's meeting, so they could graduate together[/sp]. That was pretty damn incredible.
Finally finished the first route of F/SN.
Unlimited Blade Works here I come!

Time for Shirou to grow a pair and start being remotely useful in the holy grail war.

You do know that the "Idea of a virtual boyfriend or girlfriend" is not invented by visual novels, but rather by dating simulators.
Visual novels are eroge for the most part, not dating sims. Most VNs I've played contains little actual dating.
I think the only two real dating sim VN I've played was Clannad, since the only point was to date and learn to love a "Virtual girlfriend", the other being Katawa Shoujo. There could also be True love, which was a game about raising stats to appeal to the girls.
The rest is mostly story with duct taped porn on them.
To those of you who liked Steins;Gate, this guy on YouTube has subbed versions of most of the drama CDs up on his channel, and subbed versions of the OP and EDs, and the character songs.

Truth be told I really wouldn't call those two dating sims.
Dating sims, to me, need "several statistics such as looks and charm which can be boosted through exercise, or an "attraction meter" which can increase or decrease depending on one's decisions."
Unlimited Blade Works is [sp]such a thankless route at first.[/sp]
[sp] You spare archer, leaving Rin completely intent of killing and hating you (bitch). Archer is also an asshat, and the fact you gave up one of your command spells to save this guy is a giant fucking punch in the face. Gradually it gets better but when Saber gets abducted shit hits the fan with the "thanklessness"[/sp] My opinions though....mainly true.

Pfft, nothing beats motherfucking Heaven's feel, where nothing good happens.
Nothing. Good. Happens.
Unless you think cooking is a good thing. Then it is not because all the character feels like shit while doing it. Because they know. [sp]Child rape, mindless murder of thousands, phallus worms.[/sp] Heaven's feel is dark as shit.
Doesn't help that everyone is almost doomed to die.

Well, the trick is a dating simulator is what it is, a dating simulator. In Clannad and Katawa Shoujo, the whole point is developing a relationship with characters, and most of the choices are romanced base.
Also, the stats can be replaced by the route you take in Katawa Shoujo. Like if you train a lot, then you get into Emi's arc because you're actually boosting your strength or whatever. Shizune's by the wits you show throughout the first arc.

Should probably spoiler some of that, since its pretty obvious who it concerns since its Sakura's route.
Although I do agree HF is very dark its still my favorite simply because Shirou is at his best throughout it [sp] dropping his silly childish ideal in favor of the girl he loves, and being a badass servant killing machine [/sp]

This just seems to be how Fate stories work sometimes, even the spin-offs. Type-Moon has no qualms with torturing their characters, seriously. Fate/Zero's definitely like that (being a prequel, if you've read F/SN, you already know that things aren't gonna go well), and Fate/Extra you pretty much have to kill someone once a week.
It does seem to escalate in F/SN though, with FATE being the gentlest route, UBW being a bit harsher, and then Heaven's Feel being completely brutal. Funnily enough Shirou goes from being lame to a complete badass on the same scale.
I'm gonna have a lot of fun reading this then.

Well [sp] the reason ubw feels thankless is because you are the one directing these decisions that are screwing you over sooo much. Heaven's feel is indeed dark, but it feels inevitable that Sakura's existence was doomed and every moment of her life was a curse. I don't really know why it didn't kick in for her in the other routes.[/sp]

Probably because [sp]Sakura's fate is tied to your own. If you just didn't care about her all along, then you wouldn't have given her any false hope and she'd just have resigned to her fate and let her brother do everything and eventually lose. Basically, following Heaven's Feel route is giving a hollow woman hope that she can finally have an happy ever after when the truth is that you'll have to kill thousands in order for that to happen, and it's still possible she won't have it.[/sp]
Maybe it's just a Schrodinger's gun
Maybe it's just a Schrodinger's gun
I don't think so. It's explained how in the two other arcs, [sp]Sakura's brother is taking her command spells, so when she loses them it's over. During Heaven's Feels, Sakura disagree with her brother and decides to keep the command spell to herself.[/sp]

[sp] Wouldn't the shadow spawn and kill thousands regardless of Sakura's will anyway? It didn't really matter if she was in the holy grail war right? And true assassin appears in only this route. (I suppose that can be forgiven because vns tend to change circumastances drastically depending on whatever arc you decide to go for...[/sp]

[sp]The shadows only awakens if Sakura decides to follow Shirou. The Shadow is like Sakura's dark inner will. That's why the shadow kills thousands but is reluctant into killing Shirou. If Shirou doesn't happen, then Sakura just get discarded of the entire holy grail war because Zouken and her shitfaced brother decides to manipulate her instead.[/sp]

[sp]Yeah, but the only thing we really learn in Fate and UBW is that Shinji is an ass to Sakura
IIRC it's only in HF that we learn everything regarding her background, so it might not have happened in Fate or UBW
We have absolutely no mention of Zouken in Fate and UBW, and despite Shinji failing in both he doesn't call on True Assassin[/sp]

I think I just finished Steins;gate but I am confused about the ending. I didn't do any really choices throughout the game except what mails I send and how.
[sp]I got the ending where Okabe and Suzuha goes back together to 1975. But it just ends there? It didn't end like the anime did, is there several endings? I am sort of confused. What is it that triggers the different endings if so? If I could I would've sent a D-mail so I could stop Okabe from stopping Suzuha from going to 1975 without the time machine getting damaged by the storm. But I didn't have any choice, why?[/sp]

During the game you get text messages and phone calls from the characters. The outcome depends how you answer them.

[sp]When first playing the game, the scenarios for all five heroines and additional smaller scenarios are available in what is called the School Life story arc. When the player completes a character's scenario, he or she receives an orb of light. When eight of these lights are obtained, the game's second story arc, called After Story, is made available. One of the lights will disappear while during School Life, but will reappear in After Story. To view the true ending of Clannad, all thirteen lights must be obtained. Originally, the lights were meant to be items that players could use in the game, but since this increased the game's complexity, and detracted from the storyline, the function of the lights was simplified and made less intrusive.[/sp]

Thanks, but I can't believe that it's this level of detail that will change the outcome. I mean, press the time for the Ophone wrong 10 times.
It's another game
Which hasn't been translated (I think Doki is working on it)
[editline]23rd April 2012[/editline]
@Starships post
i think he meant Tomoya After
Yeah, is it possible to just see Tomoya's eh "after" arc or something? Don't want to spend 130 hours on Clannad preferably (Work, other games to play, have to finish lots of unfinished UDK stuff and etc so don't got 130 hours to spend playing Clannad)
tomoya's after arc is another game
only after story arc is [sp]Nagisa's[/sp]

Nah, that's just for an achievement. Oh well, the best bet is just to follow the guide so you won't miss anything.
