I assume your talking bout Detective if so-
Higurashi if you like figuring out how the culprit did it
Unimeko if you want to figure out who the culprit is and how they did it
I wasn't sure if there was a "actually figure this out" mystery to those or not, I'll check them out soon.
Every anime based off a VN is different because they have to compress the story for time. This may mean leaving out unimportant details, squashing events together, etc, etc.
And when the Visual novel has lots of paths they start blending bits from each together which can sometimes be really bad, Like the fate/stay night anime
Honestly I havn't finished reading Higurashi, but imo it depends how you approach it. If you just read it passively without thinking about what is actually happening and who could be responsible then sure it doesn't have much to figure out. But I think that's kinda missing the point of the detective genre in general.
I hate it in "mystery" fiction where the solution involves something the audience could know anything about like suddenly introducing magic or sslt.

Yeah and as soon as I asked that, it hit me that anime and VNs are a biiit different. So yeah, stupid question.
I fail to see how telling someone they're wrong = offended. Ticked off would be more appropriate.
Being a 20-year old Finnish guy, I don't quite see the subtle difference between those two words, or rather, how they differ in one's behaviour. So I'll just agree since you apparently got what I was saying.

I have to agree with this. And I absolutely love it when it's the other way around. Mystery is my favorite genre, if I should put it that way
Steam chat decided to make their own VN, here's some box art:

GOTY Every year
I like the way that the OP has a literal translation for Umineko, but not for Higurashi
(hint: Cicadas, figure the rest out lol)

Heh, I'm trying, I have long days, I just got back :v:
I still have 10% left in Katawa.
And it's because I haven't done the bad endings.
I don't want to be that terribly depressed, but i'll have to do it anyways.

You could easily just skip through the bad ending, not read any of it, if you REALLY want to avoid any emotions.
I was re-watching the KS FMV's and I suddenly began wondering... who is the short-haired girl depicted on the paper torn-out received at the beginning of Lilly's Act 2? Can't be Akira, Hanako, Hideaki, or anybody else I recall being involved in her arc...

I think it's Lilly when she was a kid. Especially since that act's called "Past".
Well the Act name is the Past so maybe it's her when younger?

[editline]1st February 2012[/editline]
Also, linking English patches in the OP for each game may be a good idea.

Not exactly, but close guess.
so do you have consensual sex with a blob monster or what
So, should I add "Don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story" to the OP?
It's free, short and pretty nice to play through.
so do you have consensual sex with a [sp] blob monster[/sp] or what
It's more like having a romantic relationship with the last thing that looks nice to you in a world filled with blood and guts.
[sp]Saya isn't a blob monster, anyway. It's impossible to know what she really is until really late in the story, and even then you never really know.[/sp]
so do you have consensual sex with a blob monster or what
SPOILER THAT SHIT
it was a really fucking cool twist, don't ruin it for the rest of us
Seriously, spoiler tag anything sensitive to ruin a player's experience, please. There's nothing as worst as getting the ending or important plot twist in visual novels spoiled.

Yeah, I was only mildly interested in Saya no Uta until the part where it "all comes together"
then i was like OOOOOOOOOOOO
Window sized textboxes are so inconvenient
Seriously who made such a poor design choice

are those triangles
that's not how eyes work
Yeah, I was only mildly interested in Saya no Uta until the part where it "all comes together"

Positively or negatively? Just wondering.
Window sized textboxes are so inconvenient

Depends on the visual novels. Some takes the whole window (Screen), while others take only the bottom half.
In my opinion, they should always use the bottom box for dialogue, and the whole screen for narration.

Why do you care?
Whole window sized textboxes for dialogue with no character name displays
Why
Why do you care?
because i am genuinely interested in reading it?
[editline]1st February 2012[/editline]
or i guess "playing" it idk
Whole window sized textboxes for dialogue with no character name displays

Just a guess, but probably because there's not much going on in the background so you only need to read text.
I've taken a habit of playing F/SN's Fate once a year to see if I'll cry. If I won't, I'm no longer a human.

I doubt it.
