What a lovely first impression.
Hopefully if you leave the planet where the crops are and go to another one, the crops will keep growing. I'd hate to be forced to stay there till the crops grow :C
It would be really cool, if some planets had an evil force far down in the caverns, and if you left the planet, but came back, you would see a corrupt shell of what once was.
Can't remember if I've asked before or not, but do we know if this game has breeding? I'd like to drop some evil as fuck animals off on a planet I don't like and watch them breed and kill everything. Would be a fun way to get rid of people you don't like!

Thought there was some way to catalog and clone creatures, so I think dropping said creatures on a planet would be within the realm of possibility.
On the subject of cataloging monsters and the bestiary, I'd like to see bonuses apply to the more research you do, simple small stuff like being able to see their lifebars and stuff
http://worldofsven.com/blog/games/starbound-a-happy-holiday-update/ that guy who took that lovely cave screenshot also makes funny sounds for the game's monsters. Here's an update from him and a sampling of what he's got :v:

Malapropism involving humor and masturbation
so what kind of vehicles do you want to see, seeing as we haven"t heard so much about them?
I think i'd like large drilling machines and proper submarines.
I'd like to see a small shuttle or something that you can fly, some sort of drilling machine, something to help with building maybe, and if there is large enough oceans, water vehicles like boats and submarines. That'll be it, really.
Oh and maybe some kind of small exploration robot, like the rover that was sent to Mars! Remote controlled from your base, so that you can explore and bring small amounts of stuff back. Or map an area out!
Big stompy mechs, obviously.
This is not quite a vehicle but it's sort of similar, I also very much hope that you can use your space ship for other things than living on it, such as orbitally bombarding a planet, calling down NPC reinforcements and calling for a vehicle to be sent down.
This game is definitely going on my list of "Buy ASAP" games. I enjoyed the fuck out of terraria, but when i got all of the hallowed gear, i stopped playing entirely. This is similar to terraria in terms that it's pixel art style is nice and very pleasing to the eye, and it's a 2D type game. But has orders of magnitude more content than terraria has now, and isn't even near completion.

But Terraria's visuals were not pleasing nor nice.
Terraria was awesome, but as zombini said, once you get the end game stuff it gets shit and there's next to no re-playability. Hopefully Starbound will, or keep me going for way longer than Terraria did!

I found them quite good after the colored light patch

They got better (as you said, light patch and also the backgrounds), but lets be honest here there is MUCH better 2D out there (and not only high budget stuff).
Starbound looks better, still kinda rough 2D but it does it's job. While it would be amazing to get some Metal Slug 3-quality sprites that's quite unfeasible (he'll make a lot of money with Starbound but that's after release).
I wanna see this as a vehicle

Screw MS3 quality, let's go all the way to Street Fighter 3!
Making a single armor would take what, a month? :v:
