am i the only one who is trying to not think up super amazing fun ideas because I don't want to be mad hype for something that may not be in the game? s'why i only proclaim my amount of hype after an official update
not to sound like a pessimistic, but this game looks like terraria x10 and nothing more.
i just want to play building blocks as a beep boop robot on pink colored ground
I want to know how many "When will the game be released?" they got in the Q&A :v:
Would be cool to have Fallout references too. Like finding Vault 13, and heading inside and to the water room, then examining the water chip would yield something like "Guess their hero didn't make it back in time".
isn't that exact same reference already in a game
isn't that exact same reference already in a game
It was in Fallout 2 when you used the time machine thingy IIRC.
Have they said how many "tiers" of materials there will be?
or confirmed grapple hooks/beams?
i kind of hope there will be some sort of space environments to explore, like abandoned stations and such, or find a seemingly lifeless planet only to find a lone survivor.
I want to say there will be. I vaguely remember a picture they put up a long time ago where one of the devs was showing off decor, and had decorated a crashed space ship that was on a planets surface.
This sound familiar to anybody?
Have they said how many "tiers" of materials there will be?

I hope the equipment won't have tiers like terraria had. Like hopefully there will just be different materials that serve different functions, and one raw material isn't immediately better than the last one.
I mean, obviously some items have to be better than others... But hopefully we won't just be repeatedly making the same items out of materials that steadily increase in quality.

I dunno about tiers of materials, but race armor has 10 tier levels.
And I ask those guys over on the IRC every so often about grappling hooks, Tiy says he would like them to be in and have them behave like the Ninja Rope in the Worms series.

i saw this stream in which he showed them off, the level 1 actually looked not shit graphically
level 10 being a space marine suit for one
Cataloging:
Scanner device should allow you to be able to record all of the lifeforms that you find as a mass record of all that you've discovered. Perhaps even clone them and place them on the planet surface.
Another idea, is just a plain level editor. Players could design their own levels, then upload them. (Steam Workshop) Then from within the game they could played from within some kind of holodeck aboard your ship. Allows user generated content but doesn't interfere with player progression as obtained items could be stripped once you leave.
Did they say this would be a steam game?
Most likely, yes

are you sure the space marine suit was a level 10 tier armor? Admittedly it'd make sense for the humans.

Well they already confirmed you can catalog creatures you encounter, so there's that. I REALLY like your level editor idea, we might get something similar to that for the Director Mode

Holy shit.
Like the ninja rope?
Holy shit.
This will be amazing.
Haha that planet travel glitch. I can just imagine a tiny guy controlling a planet and driving it into another one.

If you don't want to be disappointed, stop letting your imaginations run wild. This is somewhat like Spore during its early stages, but the difference is that Spore was ruined by EA.

was more ruined by the fact that their goals were super stretched and hard to reach so they had to cut a lot of shit to stay in budget

It was probably both. I think no matter how low your budget gets, you don't need to start adding googly eyes to single-celled organisms.

Don't you know that adding googly eyes to random things broadens your demographic? That's something Rare learned the hard way with Conker's Bad Fur Day.

I really don't believe that anybody would deliberately make a game "terrible" for no reason at all, not EA, not Maxis, not anybody. There was most likely a lot of internal struggle, budget problems, having to appease to a larger audience, etc. A lot was done to make sure the game succeeded. It did, I guess, but I still get really upset when I look at 2005 E3 footage.

I'm starting to doubt whether or not EA is actually trying to make good games.
[sp] yes i know they're a publisher but my point still stands[/sp]
I sometimes miss the old days of Maxis, when they would make games like SimLife and SimEarth, which played kind of like a computer game mated with a spreadsheet. But they were still interesting because it felt like they were actually trying to simulate things. Then over time, their Sim games became less and less about realistic simulation.
I bet Spore could have been amazing if it was a Sid Meier game or something. I would love to see a Spore that doesn't try to combine a bunch of game modes, and doesn't try to be so flashy and colorful, but provides a more realistic simulation of evolution and society development. But maybe that's just me getting old. 13-year-old me would probably love Spore as it is.
But y'know, I bet some ambitious young game development company could fill the void left after Maxis stopped making real sim games. There'd be a decent amount of money to be made in that niche.

I bought spore when I was 14
Dickmonsters galore.

they're making games that a fuckton of people buy, not games that only a handful of gamers such as you and i will appreciate. that would be very sweet of them, but there's no way in hell a mainstream publisher would drop a shitton of money on something that -we- would like.
i have enjoyed a handful of EA games. but there are some that i'm not a fan of, like the new medal of honor and their sports games, but a lot of 'em i've really enjoyed, like c&c, mirror's edge, dead space, battlefield, the sims...

mirror's edge and battlefield being the exceptions
[sp]even though mirror's edge was a bitch sometimes, god that tutorial was terrible[/sp]

Difference between this and Spore was that Spore showed a video saying "Hey this is what our final product will be. See this beta? It's already awesome and shit right? Well imagine this times a million!!!"
Then we got Spore.
I find it very unlikely that we'll get another Spore, seeing as a lot of what they're showing us is already complete and they have no corporate pressure.
as long as EA doesn't turn into activision, and makes sports games i'll never play i'm cool with that.
Did you forget EA sports already? The owner of literally every single fucking sports game in existence?
