Is it just me or does the transition from the water to background actually seem a little on the sharp and bland side? There's no detail to the water at all, just blueness. It'd be fine for the rest of the water but it just makes the surface look off to me.

Fullbright or no, those blocks look hideous. They are just squiggly lines pretty much. And the color makes me feel sick.
Also, anyone else hope they adjust the weapon holding pose? It looks pretty retarded right now. Like he is holding the gun with one hand palm side up.

Given the presence of the water, it's probably sedimentary rock.

There's also the fact that there's some mossy sea-weedy... [i]stuff[/i] growing on it, so it seems like it's probably an area that has been drained of water.
I don't mind the design for the rocks, I just wish there was a sort of smooth transition effect or rock itself. Going from one rock type to another just looks too abrupt.

i feel as though they chose not to go with a transition so that it's more distinct as to what block is where, for gameplay reasons
I think people are getting to wound-up over the blocks. Personally I don't see anything wrong with it. The transitions are abrupt, but how are they meant to fix that. It's a tile based and pixels after all.

It looks better and less bland than Terraria too, at least in my opinion. So I don't really see the problem.
It looks great. I said it before but there aren't many 2D games that can say they have more depth than most games period. Even today's games
