I hardly think starbound looks retro it may be pixel art but it doesn't look like it's trying for that look
technically, any game that isn't using a new graphics style is retro due to a game made long ago, its hard to go oh i want to make a game based on the concept of a cube without not making it retro. and i'd honestly prefer a game based on cubes than rhombus or spheres.
Love the music. It also looks like you can just walk up and down "slopes" without jumping, very nice. The video description says there's a water demonstration coming soon.
this music seems very familiar, not sure what's that homely vibe
Reminds me of the decorating theme from The Sims.
This is game is shaping up to be very easy on the eyes, I REALLY like the background details, like the mountains, forests, that swirly planet off in the distance. I'm excited :3
I love the Disney-vibe the music has...
Wow so many variations. I am already amazed
That music was intense. Especially the ending with the logo... Can't wait for the next Water Demo.
I wonder how they improved the water physics since Terraria? It'd be cool to see how they've done it this time around.
And what was wrong about Terraria water physics? Seemed quite cool. Did they say anything about different gravitation on different planets? It would be awesome to find planets where you can almost fly.
I mean like how falling water would sometimes seem blocky in Terraria, like it fell in blocks. I'm curious to see how Starbound's water system works.

It may be just me but I don't really like how everything has a veiny look to it.
Terraria's water physics were fine in single player, except for that occasional tiny amount of water that gets stuck on one block. It's really annoying when it happens with lava. Water physics were pretty broken in multiplayer. I hope that Starbound's liquids are particles instead of just values given to blocks. From what I've seen, the terrain has decent art, but the backgrounds and sprites are pretty basic and minimal. I also hate how they just enlarge the sprites to reduce work.

This includes acid, and oil which will be all 'goopy'. Water will have pressure, so if too much water is spawned in a small area, it will shoot out when a hole is made by the player. This of course means you should be careful when digging out a water pocket. Water will equalize.
I'd say it's a bit more advanced this time around, rather than just "liquid tiles".
whenever people talk about terraria's water I remember that amazing bestgamers review where one of the devs says 'the water physics would blow your mind' and it's hilarious because the water looks like shit.
Would be neat to be able to build a sort of high end Mining machine, like a drill that will just go 2, 3, 4 or 5 blocks wide, down as far as you tell it to go, the further you want it to go, the more of a fuel it would use, and bring the contents back up
Being able to set up drills and quarries would be a handy thing; it'd be somewhat more engaging than scanning from orbit and launching probes (HEYOOOOO!). Also they should have asteroid mining.
I wouldn't mind orbital impact mining. Send down a drone to scan for valuable mineral deposits, and when it finds something, pile-drive a mining device from orbit into the deposit.
Looking at that video makes me wish that Terraria had something as simple as being able to walk up one tile high blocks.

From what I can tell the hair in this game isn't hideous in comparison to Terraria.
i hope thats not the edge of a planet, otherwise that means we'd have flat worlds. if it isn't, we need a boat.
They said that the that there is no edge, if you keep going in one direction you basically run around the planet
They said that the that there is no edge, if you keep going in one direction you basically run around the planet
YES
i hope thats not the edge of a planet, otherwise that means we'd have flat worlds. if it isn't, we need a boat.
Vehicles have been confirmed... Also imagine crossing some water to find a kracken or leviathen appear. Having to keep yourself and the boat in one piece will bring a new element to bosses.
They said that the that there is no edge, if you keep going in one direction you basically run around the planet
now if they made it so you can drill to the planet core....
now if they made it so you can drill to the planet core....
I'm not even sure how that would work spatially with everything being made out of blocks.
