This is ridiculously awesome, when is the beta?
There most likely will not be one. Tiy's a firm believer in releasing a game when it's damn good and ready.
Wow, that music is nice.
Guys, you know what this means? Waterslide park!
Anyone else hearing some Jupiter in that end music? 1:39 to 2:30 and 6:34 to 7:10
If there's some sort of pump system, it'd be cool to have an ocean base with an airlock.
If there's some sort of pump system, it'd be cool to have an ocean base with an airlock.
I bet if enough people mentions it or start talking about cool shit you can do with pumps & water they'll put them in there, it could be possible that they have pumps as an idea but not implemented, or just mine out a background block because this has been announced [sup][sup](This isn't set in stone and some things might change)[/sup][/sup]
♦If there isn't a block behind water, it will drain out. ♦Round planets have a super-heated core at the centre that could melt the player. ♦Planets will have varying levels of gravity. ♦Drinking lava is fatal. ♦The Kinetic Manipulator, is an item that "lets you rip huge chunks out of terrain and hurl them around, which can be used for terra-forming or harassing enemies." ♦Starbound is structured in a way that modding could be really easy. ♦If someone makes a mod that makes player's lives easier, Tiy has stated that he feels like it should be in the default server and would want to either add it themselves or add the mod to the game. ♦Content-wise, basically nothing is "hard-coded" so the dev team is trying to make mods "modules" that can be pushed to the client easily.
Terraria had a very simple one, so I wouldn't see why they wouldn't add pumps. Plus you can't exactly move all that water the way you want it to in a fast n efficient way. [editline]10th July 2012[/editline] And why would someone drink lava?

A lava-based species which drinks lava?
I really like what the team is doing with the game in terms of preparation for modding.
yeah unlike some other games. but this will be nice to have around thanksgiving or X-mas. heh, find a planet inhabited by Cyber Turkeys!
This thing is getting more and more shaped into the perfect sci-fi sandbox game. And I'm definitively pleased by that.
This thing is getting more and more shaped into the perfect sci-fi sandbox game. And I'm definitively pleased by that.
Definitely. I think just the novelty of being able to explore and interact with infinite randomly generated planets will keep it going for a lot of fans, and adding in modding is just icing on the cake. I haven't kept up with the game's progress, but it'd be pretty neat if most resources had to be found on different worlds, and they all had maximum amount of different types of resources. So a particularly small planet might only have 2-3, but a larger one might have 7-8 or so. Obviously stuff like wood, dirt, water, lava, stone, etc. wouldn't be included in that limit, but most everything else would require serious exploring to amass.
Some parts of the video, reminded me of a game called "Cosmo", an old DOS game. Brings back memories..

Let's just say they have my money.
♦Drinking lava is fatal.
Dammit. I was going to build a tavern that served lava as the main drink...
won't stop me
That water demo is damned nice, but it bugs me that the water was compressible..
That water demo is damned nice, but it bugs me that the water was compressible..
Yeah that struck me as a little odd.
That water demo is damned nice, but it bugs me that the water was compressible..
Why? there can now be water spout traps.
Why? there can now be water spout traps.
Maybe because water does not compress very well. It takes insane amounts of force to compress.
Dammit. I was going to build a tavern that served lava as the main drink...
at the center of the planet?
at the center of the planet?
The possibilities are endless. [sp]*cue rainbow*[/sp]

♦Drinking lava is fatal.

I really hope there'll be a mutation or something which can change this.

I tried my best :(
I hope the lava drinking bit can be like Space Station 13. Make a drink of Lava then tell people it's a healing potion. Watch them collapse as they burn from the inside out!
Maybe if you were some sort of rock-based lifeform that required lava instead of water, like some kind of lava golem or those "TzHarr" from RuneScape, then you could drink lava, and water would be like poison to your system.
