Starbound is really sounding awesome for just being a 2D game
Is that a feather sticking out of it's mouth?
That's a fanart and its author implied that this plant person killed an avian, stole his/her armor and weapon and eated him/her.
actual aliens instead of earth-animal-humanoids please
This. Please. I'm tired of any genre of sci-fi production just going "hurrdurr let's use typical grey heads; or better yet lets make them bird men!!1"
A good example of alien Aesthetic is well.. Alien, from the Alien movies; atleast IMO.

making an alien a giant carnivorous penis was pretty original yeah
I don't know if I should find the plant people terrifying or cute.
Is it fuckable?
If yes: cute.

P. much everything H.R. Giger does symbolizes rape or sex.
That's how he rolls.
It'd be kinda cool to have aliens that aren't humanoid, like for instance a telekinetic tiger with a scorpion tail, or a land-walking squid that has 8 legs and 2 long tentacle arms, maybe even a balloon with arms or a colony of telepathic coral, whilst we're at it.

We won't get them as playable characters though - would require separate armor sets and whatnot
Yes of course; it'd require more work to build a completely different kind of character, as well as extra "restricted assets". Then again, we wouldn't get them on LAUNCH, since there's still plenty of stuff to do, and the next two races are probably humanoids as well, but hopefully they'd still do it in post-release.

uhhh no

I'm gonna be blunt here.
Not everyone likes your dragon furry shit.
On the topic of alien races, the biggest problem with all this is they MUST stick with the basic humanoid body structure. So that'd mean we'd either just get greenskins/Greyskins, or aliens similar to those found in the Mass Effect games.
I think the last two races should be an android/cyborg race, and then for an alien species: liquid/slime people, granted all that'd be is just translucent humanoids, but it'd definitely but unique enough compared to everyone else.
There, problem solved
I still think ordinary cats in human-sized mechs are the way to go.

I agree, I want "REAL" alien species, not some radiation mutations or genetic experiments like those shown before.

a cat is fine als-
I mean yes. Yes that could be a viable and adorable race too

He's not a furry. Or a scaley, before you try that shit.
As much as I want a randomly generated space exploration game, I don't think this will be it for me.

just cause he wants humanoid lizards doesn't mean he's a scaly
for example, you can play argonians in the elder scrolls and not be a scaly.

Things like argonians are cool, not scaly fap material. Lizard people are cool when made right.

Not all scaley stuff is "fap material."
Dragons with people bodies are rad as hell, dude.

it's the difference between cartoony and grotesque
Argonians have those beady eyes, sharp teeth, hissy voices, grotesque. They're cool because they're intimidating.

its called humour in satire
i mean, but i understand that you think i'm a furry
it's kind of cute
I still think ordinary cats in human-sized mechs are the way to go.
I asked Kyren about that during the developer IRC chat, and she agreed with me that they were an important aspect of the game, and was going to bug Tiy about including them.
Also, their idea for mods is awesome.

Please do tell how your post was satire in any minuscule way.

Joke's on you! I was only pretending to be an idiot!
I don't know, but I think that cliche little grey men would be a pretty cool thing to stumble across, like the really corny versions from the mid-late 20th century. U.F.Os, Cattle Abductions, NPCs complaining of rectal pain, the works.

better yet
little grey men as a playable race
