It's already been confirmed the only differences races will have is beginning crafting knowledge, and how certain items will look when crafted

I think that's covered, as you'll be able to get the crafting blueprints for other races' style stuff. So you may start out as a bird people with bird people style furniture, but you'll be able to eventually get human, plant, simian, etc. style furniture.

Brought to you by Megaman.
Perhaps you only have so many drop ships before you need to create more, or discover teleportation.
Call me dumb, but I'd LOVE to see an option to drop down to a planet, MDK style, complete with ribbon chute.
With that telportation animation and director mode you could totally reenact Megaman levels
I was on the irc chat yesterday, and rho came on for a few minutes. I asked her if she wasn't too busy and if she would listen to an idea for the main menu I had. She said yes, and I outline my idea for the menu ( I'll elaborate on that later. )after I was done she said it actually sounded like a good idea. So if it's anything like what I'm going to post once I find my laptop, know it was my idea.

and now ladies and genitalmen i present to you: the idea i presented to Rho.
so i was thinking, because "on the beach at night" (7th one down http://soundcloud.com/curtis-schweitzer ) is the main theme, and is most likely going to be playing in the menu screen why not take the song literally. the screen would be a background of a humanoid silhouette on a beach at night, with the starbount logo at the top, and a few buttons for making new characters, changing settings, and all that junk. and when you generate a new character it goes back to the menu, the silhouette move towards a light source and turns out to be the character you just made. a few moments later, the "unknown alien threat" starts attacking the planet. your character exits stage right, and you go into a pre-generated city level of your race's design (the city will be different for each race) where you get some npcs that you take with you on the starter ship. you blast off with the npcs and it shows a shot of the planet blowing up.
after that the game really starts.
so guys whuddaya think?
Shit the levels load quickly, unless I'm missing something.

It seemed like the ship was loaded with the level to me.

It sounds like an incredible idea.
I always loved games that would immerse you right from the start in the main menu (Half-Life 2 and that James Bond game that got you right into the thick of it before you got the the actual main menu), and too few actually do that.

Holy shit that song is amazing. Reminds me of kingdom hearts.
seeing as the terraria thread is deader than fried chicken, does anyone know of any terraria servers with a good amount of people on them still?
and arent super duper regulated but still have some rules (no wrecking random shit, etc.)
I don't know of anyone who hosts public Terraria servers anymore. I'd suggest checking the Terraria forums.
Shit the levels load quickly, unless I'm missing something.
Nope, they load quick.
He actually said that they'll be preloaded so you won't see the chunks rendering anyway.

This is an excellent idea and I pray they take it to heart, this would make a great intro
I'm so glad all of you like it, it means alot to me.
I've been reading this thread in anticipation. I can't wait for this game to come out, I loved Terraria, and this is going to be loads better.
Do we have any sort of release information? I haven't been this eager to purchase a game in a long time. I hope it has a pre-purchase incentive.

Still have a vague "End of year" launch, let's all just pray it doesn't get pushed back further

Wait it's actually that close?
I've been eyeing this since it was announced but it never occurred to me that they were actually so far in development already. I guess I need to go kick my hype machine a few times.

Don't do it just yet, they may delay it by a couple of months.

They still have like two and a half months.
They still have like two and a half months.
Which may or may not be enough time. Personally I'm praying it IS enough time, I want to get my space exploration on, visit different planets and see new wildlife, then proceed to beat the hell out of it. I also want to get that guy who mentioned bombarding Avian civilizations with raw sewage on my crew and see if we can actually do something similar to that in game.
tiy pls gib me a gam 2 play on the christmas holidays
