Aquatics. I feel any "unique viewpoint" the robots would have would honestly just mirror the Apex.
I guess I'd have to go for an aquatic race, though I feel there is a good chance we will see both.
As for first character, gotta follow my time honored tradition of starting out as a human. Only thing that will make me deviate is if Cat-In-Mech ends up a playable race.

Y'know, speaking about drinking magma, why not have "rockmen" that have lava for blood and stone for flesh? Sure, FTL has Rockmen already, and there was that one Doctor Who episode with the Pyroviles who're essentially rockmen with lava inside, but it'd still be cool to have large rock giants as a playable race.
