I would think that they would not let you onto super hard worlds, until you're ready.
But that would be rude.
Then I can't try going into the highest level world and get some tiny little piece of equipment that's insanely overpowered for lower levels.
Maybe for high-leveled worlds you can go on with little to no good equipment to get something nice, but you have to get off the planet alive with the goods to keep them. That way, lower-level players can try to do a run through but can't get the goods most of the time.

Quite frankly you don't need anything like this anyway, as long as the higher tiered worlds are actually nearly impossible with low level gear.
If someone actually manages to get some high tiered equipment earlier than he should, just let him keep it, really, he's earned it, and if it ends up ruining the early game for him, well, that's his own fault.

<@Tiyuri> It's true that the end of the year is a goal that may or may not be reached, because we are perfectionists
<@Tiyuri> however
<@Tiyuri> the game is so far along, so many systems are done, its essentially very playable already
<@Tiyuri> theres no chance of it fizzling out
<@Tiyuri> we just put insane levels of detail into everything
<@Tiyuri> and i dont do videos on anything until that insane level of detail is realised
<@Tiyuri> to give another example of our attention to detail
<@Tiyuri> every single material in the game gives off its own footstep sounds when walked on
<@Tiyuri> or jumped on
<@Tiyuri> a largeeeee number of objects in the game make sounds
<@Tiyuri> when someone accesses a chest, it opens in front of them, when they leave the chest screen, it closes
<@Tiyuri> a lot of objects are interactive just for the sake of being interactive
<@Tiyuri> see a gong in an avian temple? you can go and bang it
<@Tiyuri> every block and every object has a description
<@Tiyuri> you can examine everything
<@Tiyuri> and whilst its very easy to say that these things aren't essential, just release the game already.
<@Tiyuri> I disagree, I think putting this all together gives you more than the sum of it's parts
<Arpege> Can you only beam to planets Tiyuri, or can you beam into an asteroid belt as well? Just a bunch of large chunks of rock floating about in space with rare materials in them, but extremely dangerous and difficult to move from asteroid to asteroid
<Arpege> Sort've like sky islands but in space :B
<@Tiyuri> by release youll be able to beam onto planets (done already), moons (done already), asteroids (not done, but actually very easy to do, just havent gotten around to it), and ships in flight (done already)
<@Tiyuri> and possibly some more
<@Tiyuri> also friends ships
<@Tiyuri> you can go there
<WarStalkeR> Tiyuri: you said ships in flight... Then it means possibly an space ship battles too?
<@Tiyuri> not for release
<@Tiyuri> but i have an idea on how space ship battles will work
<@Tiyuri> for post release
<@Tiyuri> I need to do a video of the building system
can't fucking wait
Interesting to see this all said. I really hope Tiy wouldn't toot his own horn before he actually felt this way.
It is true though, he does need to make a video of the building system. I really hope it isn't ripped exactly from Terraria.
Oh god they're really close to finishing this then. Now I'm torn, I REALLY want to play Starbound this year, but at the same time it'd be nice for them to add every single little detail too
With this game being released shortly after borderlands 2, I have no real excuse to be bored.
shortly?
rated optimistic
Another thing that would be nice is the ability, if you could, to fly to other planets 'real-time' in space. But unlocking a hyper-wormhole device would make you instantly be able to warp to any planet within the vicinity of the device, granted you've already visited the planet manually getting there. The device's area-of-teleportation varies because of item customizations, and may be also able to teleport not only one spaceship but two+, if there could be two+ more. However, using this device makes you miss out on possibly rare asteroids that float by containing cool loot on your travels, but also removes the danger of flying in space as a whole.
This also brings the idea of a shield that, upon common enemy contact, will send them flying into the atmosphere and presumably into space, instantly killing them, but will have to recharge to use and does not work if under ranged/magic fire, or if it is a 'boss'-type monster. Doing this also destroys any loot the monster may drop, but it would be entirely helpful if you're in a fight you cannot absolutely win and can't escape to your ship without going through said creature. Doing this in caves will make the monster take extreme impact damage from hitting the ceiling. Customization for this shield would be able to send multiple monsters at once, and have a (very) small chance of making the monster's loot from space instantly teleport to the ground.
I've also had the idea of an ancient kind of Borderland-ish alien race that only houses themselves in a few select kinds of planets and only in the deepest reaches of the planet. The only way to get into these cities is through the gate, and the only way to get through the gate is if you're from the alien race itself. This is where another item could come into play to pass some sort of diplomacy checks: an item that makes an illusion of yourself, except in any kind of form you've met and catalog'd in your book, even monsters, used for stealth. Using this item can get you past the gate and in the city is a huge market that sells modification recipes for weaponry. However, upon using these modification recipes once, they degrade every use until they become an obsolete advantage to apply to a weapon: IE +0 damage. Other civilizations could sell these too, but only the most advanced races, since it seems only fair.
Alien political systems, like democracies, or hierarchies, or monarchies, or oligarchies?
Maybe? Eh?
Maybe as part of the different themes the races have, but I can't see it as an effective gameplay mechanic. I can definitely see the Avians being a matriarchal society.
Suppose we'll be able to take on a wife?

well, her and the rest of the planet.

you should call your project, Divorce 2.0

If they did do that, they'd need to do implement the system very well; make sure that the different options are somewhat distinct so that it's not the Fable kind of marriage in which you can marry any generic NPC. There'd need to be a selection of well-developed characters that players can genuinely care about and get attached to, otherwise you might as well not bother with that kind of system.

There were multiple reasons to get married in Fable, and yes they were mostly generic NPCs, but that is when you need to roleplay and rely on immersion. Even games where they have fleshed out characters available for marry aren't necessarily good either because all their character is in the meeting and courting stage, they use the marriage as the victory/end point and stop there. At least with fable there are a few recreational things you can do with your family, at least Fable 2.

Ergh. I would rather not have any kind of romance system.
Romancing NPCs just feels...odd to me. Also any discussion of the game would have a high chance of turning into a fight over "waifus".
excuse me, robots.
no, everyone will be complaining about the robot wives that never got in and were instead replaced by smelly salmon girls.
Why would you want romance? There's no time for love when you're exploring the galaxy and beating the shit out of local flora and fauna with a stick.

Somehow I don't think there'll be a ME4 after that trainwreck. God I want EA to die out so badly. But now I'm getting off topic, so let's fix that:
What kinda weapons are you guys gonna use?
