No starter has ever had dual types until later evolutions.

Like some exclusives in Black, you can get some exclusives in White through the global link, although it requires shitloads of grinding points(sucks to grind for 10k ones). Its all on what you want more, training or capturing. Its all up to you.

In Ruby and Sapphire, I always evolved Torchic before the first gym, and that didn't take an excessive amount of grinding in any sense.

I've been playing Soul Silver and caught Raikou rather easily, at least compared to Entei. I made them both fall asleep yet they can still flee? Entei is practically bleeding out every orifice yet he still refuses to get in the damn ball.
