[QUOTE=SuperDuperScoot;34465257]Breeding question! The time it takes to get the egg is time based, and not step based like hatching, right? Edit: And do I have to talk to the day care guy every time I wanna check if there's an egg or not? (B/W)[/QUOTE] From what I'm away of it's step based and yes you'll have to talk to the guy. Been a while since I last played.
I know it's pretty random, but what I'm mostly wondering about is if I have to regularly check back in B/W or not.
Run up and down the route and when you pass by the stairs he will call you if its ready.
It worked, but he didn't call. Might also have a delay. Thanks. [editline]30th January 2012[/editline] Dammit, all that work and it has a horrible nature. Fucking hell...
Don't worry, just keep working at it. I'm sure you'll get the one you're looking for soon enough!
Yeah, the 4th one. Wheee...
Lol if you're upset about your first 3 or 4 pokemon being unusable you'r ein for a sad surprise when you find out how tedious breeding is. My first pokemon I ever bred (DW Nidoking) took bullshit in dreamworld to get hustle on female nidoran, then I had to get a ditto with the nature I wanted, breed until I got another female nidoran with the correct nature, then I filled 6 or 7 boxes with nidorans until I got a male one, with hustle, the correct nature and DECENT IVs. He doesn't even have a maxed IV, I'm pretty sure he's got 30 speed and 25-29 spA so I settled for him. TL;DR breeding sucks and takes a million years.
I'm an impatient person so I got frustrated easier. Though once I added a Pokemon with Flame Body to the party it got a little less boring. P.S. I think the power anklet is broken. Fighting Basculins for the speed EVs w/ Power Anklet, still only getting 2-3 speed EVs... I might be misunderstanding on how EVs work though. Isn't it the points that are added to the stats as shown after you level up?
Alright SuperDuperScoot, I am about to give you a brief lecture for how EVs work, so give me about 10 minutes to crank this thing out, since you seem to be having a little bit of a hard time figuring out how EVs work. I don't blame you though, they are kind of technical.
Okay, sounds good. Thanks in advance.
HOW EVs WORK: EVs (abbreviated from "Effort Values") have been part of part of Pokemon since Day 1; however, the way they work has changed over time, with the biggest upheaval coming from Gen III. For Gen V, each Pokemon can earn up to 510 EVs, with 255 in any one Stat. However, due to how the calculations work out (with 4 EVs = 1 Stat point at Lv. 100), the maximum effective number of EVs is currently 252. Something new to Gen V ( which is probably what you are wondering about) is when these values are calculated, with your Stats being recalculated after each battle. This means that any change in Stats is instantaneous, so you won't see it when you level up, per say. So here is my advice: Keep doing what you are doing, but try to keep track of the number of Basculin that you fight. Assuming that you are not under the effects of Pokerus, it should be earning 7 EVs from each battle, 2 from the Basculin, 5 from your Power Anklet. With 252 being the max usefulness, you should fight 36 Basculin in total to reach your maximum potential in Speed. However, if my assumption about Pokerus is incorrect (as in, your Pokemon IS infected with it), it should only take 18 to make it to 252. After that, you can either max out another Stat (remember, up to 252), or you can just distribute them as you see fit. I hope that kinda helps! :eng101: In short, you are doing it right from what I can tell, you just haven't seen the silent changes that the game makes after each battle to your stats (in this case, speed).
Oh, that kinda makes sense. Though the silent thing made it confusing. I wasn't keeping track of how many Basculins I fought so far... urgh. I might be around that number, it's level 34 with a speed of 103 if that helps at all. Also, no Pokerus but the parent did have it, but already overcame it. Shoulda transferred my Pokerus'd Mawile from Ruby (which is currently in SS) when I had the chance... It's probably cured by now. Thank you very much!
Sorry, can't help you there. Worst comes to worst, you missed out on a Stat point or two from "overtraining" in Speed. Also, what are you planning to do with your Mawile? Just curious, since I have never used Mawile.
I meant the original Pokemon that gave Pokerus to the parent (Mommy Scyther) was a Mawile from my Ruby. Bad wording. It was left in my SS PC so it's probably not Pokerus'd anymore. What I'm doing is making a speed based Scyther and then evolving it into Scizor once I'm happy with the speed. [editline]30th January 2012[/editline] Disregard its silliness, this is mostly an experiment.
Ah, I see. I would recommend that you put the rest of your EVs in Attack then, since you are already maxing out speed.
That's what I was gonna do next. Also I swore I had a Metal Coat in my bag...
Speaking of EV's and all... are EV's and EP's the same thing? On [url=http://serebii.net/games/iv-calcdp.shtml]Serebii's IV calculator[/url] it has a little section for "EP's needed" to get your Pokémon's stat to whatever level from the base stat.
Pretty sure it means Effort Points, virtually the same thing, probably a typo. Don't see what else it would be.
They are the same thing. [sp]If memory serves right, Effort Points were what they used in the first two generations of games.[/sp]
A little late to the party but it's good anyways: [t]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v475/gray9lives/pokemanz/1303442793796.jpg[/t]
So what is, In theory, the highest amount of Stat points gainable? I hear it's around 10 with EV item and Pokerus.
[QUOTE=Nitro836;34473664]So what is, In theory, the highest amount of Stat points gainable? Derp snip
Hmm, I thought that the specialized items provided 5 EVs in this generation. Lemme look into it... [editline]31st January 2012[/editline] Welp, it looks like it actually is 4. My bad on that, the source I used the other day didn't list the exact value of the training item.

Linoone (M) @ Lum Berry Trait: Gluttony EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - ExtremeSpeed - Belly Drum - Shadow Claw - Rock Smash Master of everything ever.
Alright, I think I'm going to start EV training for the first time, but a few things still confuse me. 1. When they say you only have 252 EVs per stat, does that mean that's the max amount of EVs you can have total or just the max amount you can have in that stat before leveling up? 2. Is it too late to start EV training pokemon I've already leveled up a fair bit? Or should I start with new Pokemon to get the maximum/best result out of EV training. [editline]31st January 2012[/editline] Also I don't have Black/white, this is for soul silver so I can't use Gen V shit or anything.

If you plan on using to use your Pokemon in a competitive sense, I would recommend that you just start with a fresh Pokemon, preferably with the "right" nature and decent IVs. And don't worry, everything essentially stayed the same between Gen IV and V.
