See the problem with that logic is it doesn't give hidden power an excuse for being in the game.
They could just have easily have given all the weak coverage pokemon a couple of crappy 70 power coverage moves and called it a fucking day.
You know I was going to argue against this, but then I realized that hey wait a minute, why isn't that the case?
They wanted to make a gimmicky move just because they could (it was introduced alongside shinies and gender). That move opened up a bunch of opportunities to many Pokemon as a side effect. Deal with it.

I don't see Unova in there.
I don't see Unova in there.
Because it is far away from the islands there/Japan. Unova is stated to be based of New York/New Jersey.

When was it said that any of Pokemon was based on America?

I knew that already, I was making a point to elevate.
When was it said that any of Pokemon was based on America?
Maybe not the first 4 generations, but didn't they say that Gen5 location is based off of New York City? Plus with the whole crater/ground zero controversy.
Its definitely not based on America.

Battery used to keep the save alive died or something? Might be the issue.
Also now I need to change my alt's avatar :/

I'm now happy with this one.

I thought they stopped using that kind of memory storage when they hit 3rd Gen?
The only battery related thing that happens in those games is the time battery going dry, and that doesn't affect your save.
Edit:
The reason why I was asking him to post a picture of his cartridge is that there are fakes out there. Software wise they're the real thing, but hardware wise, not so much. Iirc fakes use the save batteries, look cloudier on the plastic, have a shoddier sticker, and you can see a massive button battery poking it's ugly head right out from behind the top right of the sticker. And they are everywhere on the internet being sold.
If it isn't the battery thing, then a bad copy onto the cartridge, or a physical mistake inside it on the PCB, may be making it not keep the save.

I've never owned a 3rd gen game so I can't say I know what I'm talking about.
Seems like a damaged cart, likely from going through the wash or banged around too much. This is almost certainly a used cart right?
(I'd imagine an unboxed FR to be worth loads)

Oh hell yeah fake ones are notorious for that, actually I've got a "Pokémon RED" GBA cart that my younger brother's friend from Dubai got and... it's barely Pokémon at all, only thing related to PKMN is that you play as a Charmeleon:

[t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/31693224/Pokemans/IMG_20120712_214916.jpg[/t]
Don't even know if it still works or not.
Hahah, not the kind of fakes I was talking about, but that is funny.
I'm talking like, a perfect ROM copy of the game was uploaded to a cheapo crappy glitchy poorly constructed cartridge and sold as the actual game.
The kind that if you didn't know the difference, you would never know it was fake till you saw the difference, or encountered a bug that was caused by it's cheapness.

Found a page to spot fake GBA games.
http://caggames.weebly.com/how-to-spot-a-fake-pokemon-gba-game.html
"Fake Pokemon games are notorious for save malfunctions. Notice above how the fake game has a battery. This is to keep the save alive, unlike the GBC games, the GBA games usually don't rely on a battery. Starting from Ruby and Sapphire, the battery was only to keep the internal clock going. FireRed and LeafGreen do not use batteries at all as there is no clock. The above photo shows a real FireRed with no battery. The saves were on flash memory, so they were not affected when the time battery died. Later on, they stopped using them altogether."
It could also be that a foreign version of the game might not be compatible with your Gameboy. I believe I bought Pokemon Gold for my cousin once, but he couldn't save. Turned out we got an American copy of Pokemon Gold while we were playing on an European Gameboy, so that might be the case.

I hope it's in good condition. Otherwise you might not get much for it. I'm saying this because it was just found in a closet, so...

Check out my Charizard.
Who would you choose if you had a choice between Dragonite and Machamp in Pokemon Red? Strategy-wise.
Dragonite, because they're awesome.
And also strategy wise, they are only weak to other dragons and rocks, since ice has not been invented yet (or at least I'm pretty sure this is the case).

Ice exists in Gen I. But yea, I was starting to lean more towards Dragonite for all the pokemon that are weak to it, such as grass, electric, water, and fire.
Yeah I got Sapphire of Ebay once that was just the game put on a flash cart (so working time events), but the image he used on the was of a real cart on the page.

Region locking for the gameboy never happened. You just had shoddy knockoff cartridges that didn't work with specific gameboys because of BIOS incompatibilities. The DS series I believe was the first to use region locking.

Get Dragonite.
Use Agility so you outspeed everything, then use Wrap to completely prevent your opponent from attacking while getting steady damage. When they're in range for a KO, use Hyper Beam, which in first gen, didn't have a recharge turn if you KO'ed the opponent. For the last slot, give Dragonite Surf or Blizzard so he can take care of Rock types. If you don't miss, it's a sure KO on anything but Gengar's family.

After a long debate, I've decided to get Black 2 over White 2.
The aesthetic differences are just so much more visually pleasing. Sure, some of the version exclusive Pokemon compared to White are terrible, but the same could be said vise versa. I'll just have to do without a kickin' rad Butterfree, Braviary, Reuniclus, Lilligant, and Regice is all.
I just hope that one of my friends or my brother picks up White so we can swap and all that shiz.

You could probably get a Lilligant if you trade with a NPC, and I think [sp]after beating the game and capturing the other regi, you can go to the other part and capture Regice.[/sp]
