I like to use the Starter Pokemon because well... it's my starter Pokemon.
If choosing Snivy means that I'm not going to be catching a better grass type, that's on me.
I ended up droping my starter and using a fully new lineup in Gold, so I'm not that alien to the concept. Blame HMing up a Feraligatr.
Still workable, in any case.
Am I the only one who thinks HMs should be outright removed? They get in the way of any build and most are weaker than any TM alternative. Why do I need to teach my Pokemon cut when he has claws? Why do I need to teach my Pokemon how to swim, when it's a water type? And why do I have to use Whirlpool to STOP a whirlpool!? The only one that ever made sense was Flash (completely useless in battle) and strength. Flash lights up areas, okay. But then again if you have a lightning or fire pokemon why can't they just naturally light up the area around you? And strength, if you have a fighter he should be strong enough to push a boulder.
HMs are a waste of space and ruin all of my builds.
I like how you note that Flash and Strength were the only ones that "made sense," and then you go on to say how they are functionally useless.

Yea I know. They only make sense in the terms of how a pokemon could use them, but without having been taught them. Strength is a physical trait for example.

What's a better steel type, Ferrothorn or Excadrill?
What's a better steel type, Ferrothorn or Excadrill?
Ferro isn't banned tier.
Take that as you will.
They are completely different, and among the best of the type.
One more question, Is there a better electric type then Zebstrika at the point I am in the game? (I just beat brycen)
Galvantula is special-based and has slighty lower stats proportionally, but has a MUCH better (special) movepool. Get a compound eyes Joltik and abuse 90% accuracy Thunders.

Thanks

Eelektross is a good mixed attacker, with excellent mixed coverage, midly bulky and on top of that it has zero weaknesses. It's really slow, however (50 base speed) so if you prefer a faster pokemon choose Galvantula (Which has around 110 or so)
Eelektross is also a PAIN to raise, but has awesome offenses and is quite bulky, at the cost of being the slowest Electric since Ampharos. But Tynamo is useless until evolution at 39, and you'd have to refrain from using a Thunderstone on Eelektrik until it has the moves you want. Not great for in-game.

Tynamo evolves late and levels up slow, but is great when you evolve it due to it being able to learn all those new attacks, however you can't evolve it until it reaches the level where it learns it's last move, that way when it evolves, it can learn another powerful final move.
btw, if you're trying to level up a klink, joltik, or tynamo, give it the lucky egg Prof. Juniper gave you, that way it recieves 1.5x as much EXP
Ferrothorn's ability is one of my favorites
Iron Barbs
Deals 12.5% damage when the opponent makes contact.

i gave my ferrothorn the rocky helmet to make it even worse lol

I do that with physically bulky Rough Skin Druddigon.
You know, I really just need to practice some more. I can't expect to do awesome in my first few competitive battles, right?

i should do that with my druddigon and sharpedo as well, huh?

Sharpedo can't take a hit, no point in that then.
You don't hear this song for very long.

I love it, though.
Also, sorry for being a weenie.

Hey, what team do you use when you play competitive? Just curious.
Hey, what team do you use when you play competitive? Just curious.
I was doing the Autumn Friendly, which is Doubles with four Pokémon. It was actually different then what I had originally planned to use, and I kind of slapped it together over the weekend, but I would usually do something like this:
Tornadus
Prankster
Damp Rock
-Tailwind
-Rain Dance
-Taunt
-Hurricane
Rampardos
Mold Breaker
Choice Scarf
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Stone Edge
-Head Smash
Krookodile
Moxie
Life Orb
-Earthquake
-Dragon Tail
-Rock Slide
-Foul Play, I think
Eelektross
Levitate
Magnet
-Discharge
-Thunder
-Protect
-Flamethrower
And I had two others I would use occasionally:
Flygon
Levitate
Dragon Gem
-Earthquake
-Dragon Claw
-Draco Meteor
-Fire Blast
Gyarados
Intimidate
Ground Gem
-Earthquake
-Thunder Wave
-Protect
-Waterfall
I can't remember the EV spreads I gave them right now. I know the team sucks and is seriously lacking in the Protect department. My original plans included an exploding Cloyster, I wonder if that would have worked better.

Wat.
I like rampardos and all but evena choice scarf won't save him. Use him in trick room teams imo.

I thought priority Tailwind support would help him out. He was still outsped on occasion, though. You're probably right about Trick Room, though.
Also, Rock Slide was for those pesky Flying-types that aren't affected by Mold Breaker, and the rest is mostly filler. Although I have used Head Smash in panic before, being all like, "Oh shit, kill it now!"
Sharpedo can't take a hit, no point in that then.
Oh, so it's NOT just me being a horrible trainer.
I was training a Sharpedo at one point and it fainted left and right from everything.
I thought I was doing something wrong.
