Am I the only one that think's Archeops' Defeatist isn't very fair? Sure he's a powerful physical and good special attack, but he's frail as shit and has terrible typing.

In game he's fast enough to tear through virtually anything due to his high attack. In the metagame he's awful of course, but most pokemon are really. I wouldn't say it's unfair because there's a whole host of other cool looking otherwise nice pokemon which simply don't make the cut.
What's the best [3]DS Pokemon game for someone who has never played Pokemon before, but has seen the anime?

We haven't gotten a 3DS iteration yet, but I'd pick up Black/White 1 or 2. It's the latest in the series, but you're familiar with Pokemon so you don't need to go back to it's roots. Plus we can trade and battle!
Speaking of battling, anyone with competitive knowledge floating around?

Hola, ¿qué necesitas?
I'm looking for a good opening Pokemon to use Stealth Rock with. I've been leaning towards Nosepass (or it's evolution) because it also has Sturdy, guaranteeing that I can use the move. Question is: Is there a better Pokemon to do it with? I'm not looking to use any Ubers.

yes, I use (4th Gen mind you) either a focus sash or choice scarf Azelf
Azelf @ Choice Scarf
Timid
252 Spe 252 SpA
Stealth Rock
Flamethrower
Trick
Psychic
OR
Azelf @ Focus Sash
Same nature & EVs
Taunt
Stealth Rock
Flamethrower
Psychic
There are better leads, but this is the one that I used for the majority of 4th Gen competitive battling.

Doesn't choice scarf mean I'm locked into one move? Am I able to switch?

I guess not all Legendaries are Ubers, are they? I don't like Legendaries.

What I've been planning on using so far.
If you're dead set on looking for a Sturdy Pokemon for Stealth Rock, you really can't really get any better than Skarmory. Skarmory has the benefit of being able to lay down two different kinds of hazards, plus it can phaze like it ain't no thing with Whirlwind. PLUS it also has a recovery in Roost. Literally such a good Pokemon that it constitutes a half of the infamous "SkarmBliss" combo. Probopass just doesn't really do much by itself. It can set up Rocks, and then what? It's only other utility is maybe paralyzing a couple dudes, but that just doesn't really cut it to devote a place in your party for. Fifth gen really made the usage of entry hazards a lot more fluid so it's not really advised to have a Pokemon whose only gimmick is laying them down. This also makes the entire concept of having to absolutely start with hazards right off the bat not as prevalent as it was in fourth gen.
That last statement also ties into Zero's suggestion for Azelf and why he appended it with it being more suited for fourth gen. Fifth gen introduces pre-battle party checks, so the entire concept of a "lead" becomes incredibly blurry in team building.
Of course this is all assuming you'd be following wifi rules to the letter. I mean, if you're just going for story mode or battles with friends the call is all up to you.

Ouch, and Probopass is also double week against Fighting and Ground moves. That's a huge no if you're planning on going up against any competently built team.

Shit, I have to keep my Growlithe as a Growlithe until Level 45 so it can get Flare Blitz. Sounds fun, since I'm doing Challenge Mode and all.

You think that's bad, try doing it over and over and over and over and over and over because he's no tjolly and doesn't have 31 speed IVs.
God dammit I hate how I have to use legendaries to play in OU :<
Lucario is better than Cobalion tho. If one has to go, Cobalion is the better candidate for getting boxed.

Holy shit
you have a terrible sense of what is a good or bad game
That's not very nice, I suppose I did enjoy Platinum a little more than I let on, but I wasn't particularly keen on it at first. And at the time of release (of black and white) I was still playing platinum and a lot of the gen5 pokemon looked like fakemon.
So after reading through, I decided to get black and to be honest its starting to grow on me, but isome things irk me. I don't like the change making TMs re-usable, I know it makes sense as its a machine, but I just don't like it, it makes the game easier. I used to carefully decide if I wanted to teach a pokemon a move, lets use rock smash as an example (seeing as I have it) In any other pokemon game I would have thought about which pokemon to teach it to, I would have probably chosen a reasonably strong fighting type, whereas now I just taught it to 2 fighting type pokemon (Sawk or whatever its called and Timburr) and I also taught it to both of my dogs, Boney and King (I can't remember the name of the pokemon itself) This made the second gym a lot easier, but less fun, less of a challenge
Another thing that bugs me is the lack of an animation for when you walk into a building, you kind of just freeze at the doorway while the camera zooms in on you, it just seems wrong.
Going back to the first paragraph, because I find the game a lot easier than other pokemon games, I haven't been level grinding as much as I usually would (I hope that's the right term) In Colosseum I would spend hours on end leveling up my umbreon and espeon, and leveling up lower level pokemon, by the time I got on with the story I was already at least 10 levels ahead of everyone else, but with black I keep my pokemon a level or two below what trainers are using against me, so I have to work harder, so I don't just use brute force.
Also I'm not a big fan of the pokemon center and shop being mixed together, I will admit sometimes it was annoying trying to find shops and then having to run or fly to another town to get a potion, or some pokeballs, but I miss it all the same.
That said I am still enjoying the game, I like the fact that you get given a pokemon (I can't even remember its name, looks like a monkey had sex with a tree) anyway, I got a water one of them and it is very useful, especially for the first gym. For anyone who has played yellow they probably appreciate that it was a pain in the ass leveling up pikachu so he could actually knock out Brock's pokemon, same rule applies.
I also like the fact you have these two friends that you get along with and have battles with, it adds something to the game, knowing that characters that grew up with each other aren't constantly trying to beat each other and look better than the other (see Garry in previous games, and whatever that little shit from gold/silver was called)
Not sure if this happens anywhere else in the game, but the nurse that you beat outside of the forest, who then heals your pokemon anytime was very useful, especially when trying to capture, and level up pokemon, also the woman in the daycare was pretty useful to, after I got my ass handed to me by some punk ass pre-schooler
Not sure if this is just luck, but both of my dogs regularly have items that they get from battles (they might have the thief ability, but it certainly isn't the thief move), in the last game I rarely got anything, and its kinda cool that I constantly get potions without paying.
Fuck, thats long, tl;dr, I like black, but some changes bug me

It's funny because Cobalion isn't even that stellar in OU. What were you planning on using it for?
few things:
it's not Garry, it's Gary, and even then, it's still Blue. (or green depending on HOW particular you want to be)
the little shit in gold/silver was Silver. although my friend named him ??? since he thought that that was his name (it displays "??? Would like to fight!" when you first fight him)
The ability that your pokemon have is Pickup. it was on stuff like Zigzagoon in RSE and Bidoof in DPP.
it gets more and more useful the higher level your pokemon is, eventually picking up stuff like hyper potions and rare candies (in the higher half of the leveling spectrum [50+])
I liked the two rivals who are childhood friends a lot more than any other rival, it makes it feel less like a generic pokemon game and more like an actual adventure. even in B2/W2 the rival reminds me of Pearl/Barry (DPP Rival) always like "Hey lets battle!" and then running off full speed when he loses to go do something else with a little too much enthusiasm.
and last but not least, rock smash is a terrible move. it has like 20 Power. I would advise against using it. ever.

it's now the one that Smogon endorses. idk. is PO still awesome? I liked it a lot.
i was the type of guy who would never use any status affecting moves
only damage moves
so any time my pokemon had the chance to learn any moves that didnt do damage i would always say NO
