seriously there's a billion ways to make your pokemon like you and... two to make your pokemon not like you (fainting, herbs)
i am trying to successfully only use normal pokeballs on normal pokemon and premier balls on legendaries.
it's been way easier than using ultra balls :)

I remember getting the regi pokemon in ruby using great balls. Confused the hell out of me since great/timer balls were an instant breakout.

Yes it is.
It's not like it's impossible to catch them with poke/premier balls, it's just a slightly lower chance. But seeing as it's pretty low to begin with it's not that noticeable as you're going to chug through 40+ ultra balls anyway unless you get the legendary down to 1 HP paralyze it, put it to sleep and do whatever else to it.
Catch rates of the basic balls are
Poke x 1
Great x 1.5
Ultra x 2
Master x 255, or in other words, max rate.
Specialized balls like Dusk Ball usually have x 4 rate.

I'm not sure I can get around to beating red in SS
I'm running through 3 of the E4 to grind (because for some reason I have no fighting moves aside from Focus Punch and Rock Smash on my team and the 4th lady just fucks me up) and I'm getting maybe 3 levels per run (and half of those are on my Larvitar who I'm levelling)
Hell, even getting things to 80 seems a stretch. 90 seems impossible at this point.
I wish i still was blissfully ignorant about Pokemon's mechanics.
It was a lot more fun when i was, i mean you remember that Magnemite I was trying to catch? Still am, on and off for about a week now. It's not like I'm looking for a shiny or a stat or two with max IVs. Just one with 1 of 3 natures and one of the two abilities.

If caves and sea count, I found both a shiny Rhyhorn and Tentacruel in there respectively.
But on Pokemon Silver :C

But seriously looks sick though. I might have to get that, although hopefully they've got all the legendaries and all the other mons from each of those games in it.
So I haven't played Pokemon since Gold and Silver came out and I've recently started playing Emerald. All these new Pokermen are kind of neat I guess, I replayed Silver a lot so it's nice to be flying blind and evolving pokemon until the point I think "this looks stupid" and put it in storage forever.
I am by no means a Pokermen Mastah, though, so if there's any really obvious tips you guys have for Emerald then please let me know.
