The lava lamp snail is my favourite, it's the one with the most pokemon-like design (next to the one who totally looks like Gold/Silver beta concept art), I'd love to see a real pokemon with a similar concept.

I know but its the only theme that I can think of. Considering that Fire and Water starters have themes, Then Grass must have some theme. Besides in the Pokemon universe, Ducks evolve into swans, fish into octopi (which arn't even in the same phylum) and lizards into dragons.

I don't like how OP the CAPs are. All of them have at least 1 stat above 109, Why can't they just give them good typing and good abilities without needing to give them broken stats and great moves that it shouldn't theoretically be able to learn.
The human brain is wired in a way it will try to find patters where there aren't any. Nope, there's no pattern, stop wasting blood sugar thinking about that.

I like their concepts, specially Tomahawk's, but something about their designs irks me for some reason. (I would love Tomohawk more if it had a more simplified design)

CAP fakemons are designed to fill a very specific role, that's the point of the contests in the first place (Make this pokemon with "shitty typing" amazing, make a pokemon that serves as a supporter/attacker/mixed wall/counter of these treats...)
Also, I don't think having high stats means they're broken, as long as they have a BST between 450 and 550 they're fine. But yep, some CAP fakemons do have a very high BST (Above 550), but pseudo-legendaries like Tyranitar have a BST of 600, so I don't think it's too bad.

I really like those Froakie's evolutions, Chespin's seem a bit dull compared to the others.

I think they all looked fairly subdued. Froakie is the only one that actually "evolves" in the sense that it looks different (even though it goes from a frog to a stoned gecko), The other two just look like they got older.
Froakie's puff is going to turn into either a beard or afro or both. Possibly with a Fu-Manchu moustache. His eyes are going to mature with each evolution. Extra emphasis on his legs (frog's legs, fighting, kicking, etc. etc.), will remain bipedal.
Fennekin's ear hair is going to turn into a big, firey lookin' mane. The ears will get progressively bigger. Will remain quadrupedal.
Chespin's spikes are going to sprout up all over, the seed part is going to go from resembling a seed, to a sapling, to a tree. The claws will become much more defined. Will end up like Typhlosion, in that sometime's he's on all-fours, sometimes he's on his hind legs.

So, I'm playing through Emerald right now, but I'm still trying to form my final team. What pokemon should I go for? I currently have an aron, combusken, (going to catch a) trapinch, taillow, lombre, and poochyena. Anything I should think about switching out/changing?

Well, to be honest, he does have a Fire, Grass, Water, Flying, Ground, and Fighting, and Dark type. If anything is missing from that, it's a Psychic Type.
The only ones left available without repeating types are pure Psychic, so (not sounting Wobbufett) Gardevoir, Alakazam, Grumpig, and Chimecho would be my suggestions.

Chespin's 1st and 2nd forms looks [I]way[/I] too similar, at least I think so.
The 3rd form doesn't look [I]that[/I] bad though, but not a whole lot of
"evolution" so to speak.
