B/W/B2/W2 are good games unless they're your first Pokemon games (which they were for me) After watching so much of the anime and seeing all the big forests and small towns and the original Pokemon from Gen I - III I was very excited to be able to roam through the forests with a Charizard or something and wreck shit up. But what I got was an adventure set in confusing, noisy and muggy cities with new Pokemon that show that Game Freak are running out of ideas and not many of the original Pokemon to actually catch in the wild. From my perspective, B/W/B2/W2 are terrible, but they were my first Pokemon games so I guess I'm a little biased in that regard. I'm going to pick up a copy of HG and finish that and then transfer the old Pokemon to a new game of B2 and see if the quality greatly improves, but for me the things that were better in B/W/B2/W2 just aren't worth it considering that it lost so much of the charm of the original Pokemon. This is entirely my opinion, and B/W/B2/W2 are not bad games, they're just very different from what I thought I was getting, in a bad way. I can't wait to explore Johto and Kanto, though. Maybe when I can have my first team include a Charmander and a Pikachu that I'll really enjoy B2/W2, but at the moment I feel like I'm trekking through an adventure I don't really want to trek through, and feel like I'm only actually playing it because I spent $50 and I need to get my money's worth out of it.
Unova was based on new york(?) so you cant really expect forests there

That puts a damper on things for me, I grew up with Red and Silver.

You might as well get HG or SS, finish that and then transfer your Pokemon to B/W2 [editline]20th January 2013[/editline]
Unova was based on new york(?) so you cant really expect forests there
I didn't know this prior to buying, and that's it's biggest problem, the fact that it's set in New York.
you have to have two DS's to transfer from 4th gen to fifth. also, you can't transfer until you've beaten the game in B/W/2
I think the biggest problem with B/W/2 was the lack of long routes. It was a short walk to every city ever. I liked the gen 3 layout the most, because there was a lot of distance between cities, but there were still enough interesting cities to be in.

There are times that B/W didn't really pulled off the exploration part as good as gen 3, as it felt like I'm just travelling in a straight line with 3d effects out of wazoo in comparison when I'm walking to another city. Although, it would be a breather for some people who wouldn't like travelling to maze-like caves (I'm looking at you, Rock Cave) so, it's not really that bad. But, yeah, they really need to make the routes more interesting than just that.
you guys forgetting Kyogre and Groudon in HG/SS? So that makes two of them. Or Two of one, how ever you want to see it.
But isn't the player catching legendary pokemon in the games never considered to be canon? Disregarding that, some of the pokedex entries mention there being more than one (as with entei)
A Pokémon that races across the land. It is said that one is born every time a new volcano appears.
This is interesting to me, as it conflicts with the background given for entei in G/S/C (meaning the tin tower burning down)
HOLY FUCK I THOUGHT I'D NEVER BE ABLE TO HATCH ONE AGAIN, THANK YOU GOD
shiny hydreigon, doesn't look too bad, still a tossup for me though which i like better...
couldnt think of anything witty,so I named it hydrogen :v:
Last weekend I started playing Black version and now I've beat five gyms in a short time. I've hit a mental wall, though, I just can't proceed without getting tired (mostly because I would have to grind for the first time). I was just thinking that I could create a new save and try the Nuzlocke thing. Say, are there any more rules than the two, capture the first pokemon you encounter and fainted pokemons are dead? [editline]20th January 2013[/editline] Well, are any of those optional rules really important?
Well it's fun to customise your nuzlocke but you could just do a standard one.
Maybe I'll come up with some rules after I start playing. Now that I think, maybe I should start with SoulSilver first and then move on next generations.
Well, are any of those optional rules really important?
I've recently resumed my Black Nuzlocke, and here's what I'm doing: 'Dupes' or Species Clause, which means that if the first Pokémon you find in an area is something you already have, you can skip it until you find something new. Makes things more interesting in my opinion. Shiny Clause. Basically, if you run into a Shiny, it doesn't count towards the challenge, so don't be fucking dumb and catch it, you lucky bastard. Also, I'm a wimp, so I'm boxing my lost partners instead of releasing them. They aren't coming out until I finish the challenge, though. It's pretty basic, really,

one thing I'm always proud of and glad i haven't lost yet is my dragonite that i have had since fire red. also is currently my ony level 100 because I'm always off and on with the game. went from fire red, to pearl, to platinuim and finally to black.

Do you guys think it will be possible to import pokemon from diamond or heart gold to these new X and Y versions when they come out?
you probably need to bring them to Black or White first
I was doing a White Nuzlocke before, but I just kinda stopped before the Elite Four. with: Al Boar the Emboar Vibes the Seismetoad Banjo the Beartic Lust the SHINY Swoobat (Not obtained by the Shiny Clause, but by normal standards) Archie the Archeops Bosco the Simisage Honorable mention goes to Sybil the Watchog, level 44. Obtained on the very first route. Fell to a Leaf Blade crit.
I don't think i could ever manage myself in a 100% nuzlocke run, maybe i could if it were a KO = death, but beyond that is far too much for me, limited pokemon centers, limited items, first capture in each route, fuck that...
Nothing wrong with boxing dead mons. It's like a little graveyard.
I thought about that too. I've been playing SoulSilver with additional rules Katska described. Right now I own Totodile, Hoothoot, Rattata, Gastly, Bellsprout, Geodude and "Egg". I haven't lost any pokemon yet. There have been some close situations, where my pokemon had only 1-3 HP left because of a critical hit. I had a little problem with Falkner (Flying type gym leader) too, because he managed to use Sand Attack and I had to try attacking at least ten times with Geodude's Rock Throw before one hit managed to land. They're only made because some people want more challenge than the basic Nuzlocke challenge offers.
So I just finished organizing all of my Pokemon in White 2 by National Dex number. Man, that was tedious. And I still have another two boxes to import from Platinum! Perhaps catching 'em all really isn't as easy as they make it seem...
the worst is in HG/SS when you have to walk through three routes before you even have a chance to throw a pokeball, effectively killing your chances of catching a pokemon before Violet town.
Well you could always start the challenge after you get pokeballs. You have to go back to your hometown before that anyway, so once you've visited Mr. Pokemon and stuff you can start the challenge. [editline]21st January 2013[/editline] It's not like there are only two rules and "EVERYTHING ELSE IS WRONG".
